This video was helpful but the your image was blocking some of the screen making it hard to see what options you selected in the lower left of the screen.

Thanks for this, but how do I stop the overlay dissapearing between slides, when it goes to the next slide the overlay fades away for a second

You can always add a black overlay in Photoshop to your images. I usually do that, but sometimes it's good to use this method.
