I am so sorry to hear that you had to deal with that :( When you can't train you could work on calm handling inbetween meals, where you have a couple treats, and you reach and touch your puppy then feed a treat, touch the ears, chest legs etc then feed a treat, just super easy and dont add criteria if the puppy isnt feeling well.

I’m interested that you are teaching exciting behaviours to the excited dog. I’d been trying to train calm behaviours with my very excitable dog as anything exciting just made him more hysterical. In fact I have actually given up doing any formal training with him at the moment and am currently just following your ‘calm around food’ method.
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I guess it was a little unclear. If the dog is "excited" you can work on things that they might not enjoy doing so much if they are in a calm mood- things that require a lot of energy. Like asking someone to do cheer leading moves when they feel like watching tv. The difference the dog is excited, but not OVER excited. if the dog was over excited you can work on calm behaviors or break up the steps super small so the dog is getting reinforced for even just a mini step. If that makes sense?

I love your puppy training videos so much!!! I think I’ve watched pretty much all of them at least once! Could you please make a video about getting a new puppy and preventing bad influence from other dogs? Specifically unwanted barking and fence aggression due to the next door neighbors’ dogs being very aggressive? In 2 weeks I bring home a new puppy and our neighbors’ dogs have some serious issues and I don’t want them to rub off on my new puppy. 😩
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
Oh it will be ok and the bonus is that your dog wont be scared of barking when out and about and it happens. :) When the dogs bark be there with your pup, tell your puppy in a calm voice how good he is and pet him calmly or give him a treat if hes interested, do this every time the dogs bark for the first two weeks. WHen leaving the puppy have him inside with music turned up so he cant hear the dogs, if you can hear them from inside or any noise he alerts to that you cant even hear, tell him how good he is, If he started to bark simply interrupt him, go pick him up and tell him that theres nothing to worry about that you have it under control and you hear all that stuff too. I have 6 dogs who completely ignore aggressive fence running and barking dogs. My neighbors had 3 barking dogs behind my fence that were 100% visible in some parts of my property and my dogs completely ignore them running up and down barking. They learned I wont let anythign happen to them

I love your videos! Do you have any advice on training dogs for car rides? I have three large dogs. Two of them sit calmly in the seat, but the third one paces and whines and howls. I use those straps for buckling dogs in. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure he would be in my lap. But he is so squirmy and agitated that he gets tangled up in the strap and gets even more upset. I would love to be able to take my pups on more adventures, but we have to find a way of travelling that is safer and less stressful for all of us.

Hi, I am new to your channel, and I love it. When my dog was a puppy, a dog that lives near our house tried to bite my dog. After that, my dog was terrified of passing that house, and he wouldn't want to move. Now he has begun barking as soon as he is outside the house, and the barking will intensify when we pass the dog's house. After passing the house, he will cry but eventually get silent until we arrive at the park, where he gets excited and starts crying and barking to greet his friends. How can I calm my dog in both situations?

Hey, do you have any videos on extreme fears? Not my dog but looking for advice for my SO. He has a dog that is petrified of people. She’s almost 3 years old, no reason for it, and it came on pretty suddenly a few months ago. She’s at the point that when she’s in the car and there’s someone on a motorbike she gets very very stressed out. She cannot function at all when there’s new people around, and is very wary of the people she grew up with. Literally everyone but my SO. She won’t take treats, toys, or praise when there’s new people near her. They don’t have to be looking at her, being loud, or interacting with her in any way, she’s just terrified. Recently she started throwing up her dinner hours after guests leave. I was just wondering if you may have any advice? I’m a balanced trainer myself, but that also means adapting your training style for the individual dog. This dog Definetly needs purely positive training, she’s very soft unlike my personal dogs which is why I’m seeking advice here. It’s not a type of dog I have much experience in at all, both of my dogs have been on the opposite end of the spectrum (DA/reactivity). Thank you for your time if you get round to reading this!
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
The fact that it happened so suddenly makes me suggest before they do anything to get the dog to a vet to do a full blood panel and check up or if possible a veterinary behaviorist. It might be pain or illness related which trying to train through might have no effect. Then the concept of choice can help, set all the situations up where the dog is reinforced for moving toward the person rather than the person moving toward the dog, and break the training up into small successful approximations the dog finds easy and isnt conflicted or overly stressed during if that makes sense.
@Ginger_Goth
@Ginger_Goth 3 жыл бұрын
@@kikopup I’ll Definetly mention the blood panel thing! Also, the rewarding for her making the choice to move towards people is a great idea! Thank you, no idea why we didn’t think of that. He’s mostly been working on trying to distract her and gain her attention but her reluctance to accept rewards has made that very difficult. However we think we’ve finally found a treat that she’ll take when not super stressed which is great haha. Will absolutely try this approach out! Thank you again.

@@Ginger_Goth Where this video starts playing in the link you can see Ive put plates 10 feet apart and I can walk put a treat down point at it and walk to the next plate and put a treat down, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWK3Z35vfrpshpI your family can do this with her and then start marking her movement toward before then putting the treat down on the next plate. Sometimes having the plates helps build the drive to move toward the person at first.

This is so helpful! I trained basic cues with my dog when I first got her but am wanting to get back into it. Can I ask what you mean by "superstitious" behaviour? Would also love to know where your big treat pouch and loud clicker are from!
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, well its not really superstitious to the dog, basically if they spin and wave at you every time you take to long in a training session, it will get reinforced, so the behavior will continue, it is what earns them the reinforcement as a sequence of behaviors - spin wave then do what she says to do then get a treat then repeat. So you have to reinforce the behavior you do want the dog to do when waiting which is sitting or standing calmly when no visual or verbal cue is given.

I LOVE that you say to feed the dogs first! Another well known trainer states that he did not feed his puppies unless they engaged with him - if they did not engage they were put back in the crate until the n ext meal time - and then they had to engage with him to get their food!!! I stopped watching his videos at that point ! You are so kind to your dogs I love it!

Is there an easy fix for fearful barking? He literally does not listen to commands except for "want a cookie?" when he's barking. He's an 8 month old golden.
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
If you think in terms of the barking as a side effect of the emotion, you can think, how can we stop the dog being fearful, then then barking will not happen. You dont really want a fearful dog who is not barking, because its hard to trust them. The barking is a good thing cause it keeps people from doing stupid things like trying to hug your dog all of a sudden. So a great behavior to revert to if your dog is scared suddenly by someone in the future, rather than just biting them. I suggest that you get help from a professional trainer who doesnt use any forms of physical or psychological intimidation to help you create a plan to work on the specific fears your dog has. *8 months is a hard time for soooo many dogs, and it is the time they can act the most fearful, so dont give up hope. The best plan is to keep the dog away from things that make him fearful until you can get help. Here is a place to find a trainer : karenpryoracademy.com/find-a-trainer/#!directory/map And here: www.petprofessionalguild.com/Zip-Code-Search and here m.iaabc.org/consultant/
