This is such a great video - thanks for sharing! It's so important for this kind of thing to be done correctly. Impatience and poor planning will result in difficulties down the road. Thanks again for this video, very, very helpful!

Thanks Emily! I used your advices with a different puppies when introducing them to my BC Ajay. He wasn’t very confortable with puppies at the beginning, so I always worked with distance and walking slowly and then approaching step by step with a fence between them. Now, he recognizes the set up, when there is a puppy behind a fence and both are getting treats for showing calm behaviors. And he often looks at me to say « I know this game ! ». Your tips are a great help and I’ve recommended your channel to many many people ☺️!

Is it ok to bring a puppy into the house after going through this process with our older more possessive/reactive dog? I don’t have a garage or another place I can keep the puppy away for multiple introductions. My thought is going through this process and then bring the pup inside and put it in a private room and then do more introductions like this throughout the week until they can hang out in the house together. My husbands older dog is pretty territorial especially in the house and around food but I plan to feed pup at a separate time and place and using my hand so I’m hoping that will help her to be more nice.

You are such an amazing teacher, I appreciate your hard work so much. I'm about to begin training a puppy that is intended to be a Psychiatric Service Dog. Do you have any content you recommend for kids so I can really show them how important these first few months are? Thank you so much!!! ❤

I recently rescued a blind cocker spaniel. Five of my six other dogs are ok with him, but the only other male dog really does want the dog near him, and has tried to attack the little cocker twice. I have had to separate them. If you could recommend anyone who has integrated blind and not blind dogs, and perhaps a male with another male, I would be so appreciative. THe little cocker is very friendly but as he does not see, he can almost walk into my other dogs, and some of my female dogs bark at him, and the little cocker just moves away. The normally sweet male in my pack is a problem.

Hello, do you suggest a muzzle if the dog is aggressive to prevent insiders? Will this stress the dog more? Thanks for your excellent advice!

I have a reactive dog to small dogs so I use a muzzle and it's safer for everyone. Mine doesn't get more scared.

Great video! As a pet sitter,I do not always have as much time to introduce two or more dogs,as in your great video. I don't use food or treats to introduce. Many dogs will fight over a piece of kibble or treat. I also keep a squirter gun handy to keep a dog that may show dominant behavior, ie standing over,hair starting to rise , growl. Make squirter correction to "de load" dog. Has worked great for me. Also I like introducing dogs that are wearing harnesses that cover body somewhat ,and have handles. Enjoyed your video. THANKS

Jesus! People entrust their pets to you and you use positive punishment on them?! Yikes!
@martincroke752 жыл бұрын
@@incanusolorin2607 My clients know I use a squirter gun when necessary. They are happy that their dogs get good socialization skills and do not have to go to vet's for dog fighting while they are here. Dogs go on a 3.5 mile hike daily. Guess in your opinion that time would be better spent in Vet's office waiting for stitches. In 8 years of pet sitting, I have turned down three aggressive dogs outright. I have used the squirter gun on about the same amount. I thought a squirter gun would be negetavive reinforcement?? All I can tell you.. it works. I have never had to physically broken up a dog fight. No vet bills because of dog fights. Have made thousands of dollars doing something I love. Clients love me...and so do their dogs. I take it you don't walk your dog in the rain,because of stress it would put your dog under. Your ridiculous!

@martin croke positive punishment is adding something to the "punishment" which is fine when used properly. It sounds backwards negative is taking something away from them. Also, if it works to prevent fights I say go for it
