cw: death and young children, and general terribleness - "by the bank of the milky way, we'll always be together!" at the beginning, this references the two children playing together by the lakebank; you can see them skating on the frozen lake throughout the video (such as at 2:01) "and then i crumbled and fell apart and the moon fell into the open hole" the moon being the girl, the ice beneath them begins to crumble. unable to move, the poor boy watches the girl fall through a hole and begin sinking in the lake - at 2:42 you can see the girl waving goodbye to her friend. "we'll be together forever even at the bottom of the universe!" it's not totally clear how, but the two children end up together on the lakebed. "spinning, spinning, the maddened yukionna is dancing" the yuki-onna being a spirit of japanese folklore, what she does varies but generally she's known to mislead people on snowy nights, indirectly or directly causing them to freeze to death. "with frozen eyes - the collapsed body fell from the sky with frozen eyes" i believe that, after the girl fell through, the boy on the surface of the lake passed away - this part is mostly my interpretation, but the abstract imagery of the boy crumbling throughout the video leads me to believe the ice beneath the boy slowly fell apart and cracked also, explaining how they both ended up at the bottom together. "the sky" in this lyric is the surface of the lake, and "frozen eyes" shows that the boy had already died, leaving his eyes empty and lifeless. the "drip drop drip drop" throughout the song is the sound of the ice melting - either prior to the girl's fall, as it grew thin and weakened, or after she had already fallen and the surface beneath the boy fell apart. "next to the aurora lights, we'll always be together!" the "aurora" here is mainly red and blue - it represents the police car, sent out to find the missing children - they were likely on the lake at nighttime, or late evening, though the dark blues in the video also represent the water surrounding them after their collapse. "while looking at the moon from the very bottom of naraku on the opposite side of the yukionna" this line is almost a puzzle - though throughout the video the "moon" refers to the girl and the boy is a "star", i believe the moon here refers to the actual one. "naraku" generally translates to hell or evil - its use here is a little unclear to me since the lake is usually referred to as a huge, peaceful universe, the yukionna imagery makes me think the children were perhaps cursed, and the lake took on the form of their hell. this may explain why they were out in the cold so late - perhaps the "yukionna" is really their parent or parents, who felt that the children were a burden and neglectfully sent them out to play on a dark winter night. "and so both the moon and the star disappear, the disappeared couple cannot be found anywhere" despite the "aurora" from earlier, the ice of the lake and hole that would signify someone falling in have now melted, and police never suspected to search such an area. - it's not a perfect dissection of each and every lyric - and the whole pocket part is pretty unclear to me - but those are the most objective events, as far as i believe. it's really heartbreaking, but if the yukionna really was a neglectful or abusive parent perhaps atleast at the bottom of the universe they can find peace and, finally, safety together.

this is my thoughts: - the boy fell and hit his head, at 1:03 you can see part of his head crumble away, the "drip drop" sound here may refer to the boy's blood dripping. - from 2:14 to 2:57: this is from the girl's view, as she refer herself as 'watashi' which mean 'i/me' but mostly used by female, while from the start of the song, the word 'boku' was used to refer the 'i/me' character, which mostly used by male, in this case is the boy referring himself. - I can't hear anything. I can't touch anything, I can't move but i can still see. Inside the warm pocket that i was placed into... She was drowning, "warm pocket" may refer to her winter clothes, which absorbed water and became heavy, that's why she can't move. 'Drip drop' sound here (originally "boro boro" in Japanese) is more like her sound gasping for air in the water. "I bid farewell to the broken you" and the girl is waving her hand in the video: she is trying to swim up to the surface. - Yukionna may refer to the frozen ice surface, "yukionna dancing": the ice is breaking, "opposite side of the Yukionna": opposite side of the ice surface - you can hear half of the police siren in some part of the song, and in the very end of the song.

They will forever be at the bottom of the lake. The hypothermia most likely caused the boy to hallucinate that he was turning into a planet and he was floating through outer space, given how big and vast the lake water was. He succumbed to hypothermia thinking he and his friend were becoming planets, when in reality, they were floating to the bottom of a lake.

確かコメント欄にあった考察では 雪山で遭難した男女がいて、洞窟の中で女の子が低体温症で動けなくなってしまう。それを見かねた男の子が助けを求めて外を探索。吹雪の中で崖から落ちて身体がぐちゃぐちゃになって死んでしまう。 一方女の子は、雪女の幻覚を見ながらも健気に男の子を待ち続けて、やがて凍死してしまう。その死に姿は星のように細かくなった男の子とは対極にとても綺麗で、さながら月のようだった。 書き起こすと切なくて悲しい物語なのに、曲は優しくて2人が幸せになれたかのような幸福感があるからすごい。

もしこの曲が「太陽と月になった兄妹」というボリビア・インディゴの民謡を元に作られたのなら、MVの絵も全てを蘇らせるために犠牲になった兄妹（アリとヤシ）をイメージしたのかな… でも物語にでてくる兄のアリは太陽🌞に、妹のヤシは月🌝になる。太陽≠星として考えるなら、原作をきくおさんアレンジにしたのではないかと思います。 3:16「月はもう輝かない」という歌詞からもボク（兄）が太陽にならず星になったため月は輝くことができない。つまり2人が太陽と月になり全てが救済される正規ルートではなく、2人が失敗した場合のバッドエンドルートを創造した感じ？かな 毎回ながら、きくおさんの教養と想像力にはとても感銘を受けます。

"Spinning spinning the painful trembling is kindly" Her spinning is probably her feeling disorientated/swaying in the water, the trembling is her shivering. "Letting me sleep comfortably" Another symptom in hypothermia is drowsiness, and generally if you fall asleep when you have severe hypothermia, that means you are on the verge of death. Could also just mean she's dying, not sure. This song is just so sad, it makes me feel guilty for listening to it.

仲の良かった双子の兄妹がある日事故にあって瀕死に陥る。植物状態の双子達は意識の中で黄泉の世界に行く中間でまた巡りあうけど、兄は体力が持たず、先にお空へ旅立つ。その様子を見ていた妹が思ったのが、ぱらぱら壊れて登っていく様子で妹も衰弱していきあとを追うように亡くなる。そして、空に登ると兄が星になっていて巡り会えた。でも、そんな時間は長く続かず、2人はまた転生する。その様子が、「そして月と星は消える 光の中へ」ってところで、きっとこの2人はまた双子として生まれようと約束して一緒に消えていったんだと思う。

this is one of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard. after five years, im still not over it, and i will never be. this song brings a warm, whimsical, christmasy feeling to to the listener. its magically orchestrated, like something you would hear in an old disney movie. the lyrics being a dark story about two kids freezing to death only add to the brilliance. kikuo has definitely improved since this came out, but to me this will always be one of his best songs

For those of you who don't know who the "yukionna" is, wikapedia says "the Yuki-onna would be standing there hugging a child (yukinko), it would ask people passing by to hug the child as well. When one hugs the child, the child would become heavier and heavier until one would become covered with snow and freeze to death. It has also been told that if one refuses, one would be shoved down into a snowy valley. In Hirosaki in Aomori, it is said that there was a warrior (bushi) who was asked by a yuki-onna to hug a child similarly, but the warrior held a short sword (tantō) by the mouth and hugged the child while making the blade go close to the child's head, which allowed the warrior to avoid the aforementioned phenomenon. When the warrior handed the child back to the Yuki-onna, the ghoul gave many treasures as thanks for hugging the child. It is also said that those who are able to withstand the ever-increasing weight of the yukinko and last all the way through would acquire great physical strength. In the Ina region of Nagano Prefecture, Yuki-onna is called "yukionba", and it is believed that they would appear on a snowy night in the form of a yama-uba. Similarly, in Yoshida, Ehime Prefecture, on a night when snow is accumulating on the ground, a "yukinba" is said to appear, and people would make sure not to let their children outside. Also, in the Tōno region of Iwate Prefecture, and on Little New Year (koshōgatsu) or the 15th day of the first month, a yuki-onna would take many children along to a field to play, so children were warned against going outside. It can be thus seen that yuki-onna are often considered the same as the yama-uba, sharing the similarity that they are fecund and take many children along with them." That's me not knowing how to describe things :/ So basically this can provide some more information, maybe the children went outside on the day they weren't supposed to or something? I always thought it's about two kids who fell into the lake, but the boy fell first and became a sole star in the deep dark lake, and as he was watching, the girl sat by the open hole in the lake, seeming like a moon to him, so far away above. I theorized that either the girl fell after him then, or she jumped inside to save him or just join him in his death...

He's probably imagining seeing the bright moon in the dark water as he's dying, and she's seeing the dark night sky, like they're both staring at the universe but from different perspectives. 1:35 "And so I fell and disappeared...while looking at the moon from the very bottom of Naraku" He has settled all the way at the bottom of the lake. Looking up, the hole is his only source of light, so he's looking up at her and seeing her as the moon. 2:18 "I can't hear anything, I can't touch anything, I can't move" He is experiencing his last moments, specifically dying of hypothermia. He is numb to everything, and cannot hear since he is submerged in water. The view above him fades into blue and red and resembles the galaxy. 2:22 "But I can still see, inside the warm pocket I was placed into...the painful trembling is kindly, letting me sleep comfortably..." Hypothermia tends to kill people because they suddenly get warm and believe they are better. It's heartbreaking - he believes the warm and his trembling is comforting, when it's his body shutting down and trying to give him peace, letting him die thinking he's being rocked to sleep. 2:44 "In the night sky I bid farewell to the broken you" He's seeing his moon one last time, and she's badly injured from the fall. 3:00 "And so you became the moon, the gloomy and broken me, the broken lump keeps shining...And so I became a star" He is upset that this is all that is to become of him. But, he keeps "shining" and transforms into a star in the sky, so he can be with his moon forever. 3:15 "The moon won't shine anymore/is disappearing" She has died with him, and she stops shining and her soul leaves. 3:20 "The star is also disappearing into the light" He has died. They both are gone. 3:28 "The disappeared couple cannot be found anywhere, at the very bottom of the universe, they are together forever!" Their bodies are at the bottom of the frozen lake, never found, where they both rest side by side.

It's this shot (1:39) that paints the clearest picture for me about what the song is really about. The kid looking at the Moon from afar can also be interpreted as him sinking into the lake as he looks at the girl who can only look at him sinking deeper and deeper through the same hole he fell in, therefore looking like the Moon from his pov. When you look at the shot with that in mind, it honestly looks terrifying, specially seeing the Moon get further and further away from you while being unable to do anything but float away.
