Upon touching Kil'jaeden's forehead, it almost looked like Velen granted him a sense of Peace before he finally died. Peace within himself, and a satisfying answer for the tyrant he once called his brother. This cinematic is so, so great!

reason being is that Kil´jaeden was once the best friend and one of the main rulers of eredar race whom were corrupted by Sergaras and he believed that Sergaras wanted to purify them with knowledge and sentient actions but instead he intended to corrupt them... talking about the Velen´s vision he meant the one where he saw Sergaras´s truly intentions but they did not hear Velen out nor Archimonde did. As all the creatures controlled and corrupted by their "masters" they eventually freed their mind athe end of their existence and therefore you are absolutely right Kil´jaeden was glad that Velen succeded in defeating the burning legion for good! :)

As we all know, we defeated Kil'Jaden, when he was defeated in Argus his death is final and he can no longer resurrect, that means that he would have gone to the Shadowlands, directly to the jaws, but, I want to think that when we settle the lawsuit that there is, it can be judged by the Prosecutor and at some point it is sent to Revendred to atone, since if we remember correctly, although he did everything he did, it was out of jealousy and because he thought that the Legion could not be defeated, so, just like Arthas should be sent to Revendred and that his sins are atoned for, seeing how in the cinematic he finally repents and seeing that Velen gave him peace by forgiving him, I think he should be tried too ...

Legion portals were convenient to the Legion. They allowed their forces to reach us while we have a hard time reaching them. Due to the fact that they cannot die in Azeroth and will just respawn, it provided the Legion endless waves of attack where they lose almost nothing. The forces of Azeroth however don't have the same privilege of respawning like demons or our player character. A defensive war achieves nothing but delaying the Legion. It's impossible to compete with an infinitely respawning army in a defensive war unless you cut off their source. You cannot build up your forces faster than this enemy. The portal Illidan opened is convenient for both sides. It lets the Legion attack us at full power but also lets us attack them in full force. Except this time, the demons we kill in Argus are dead for good since they can actually die permanently in places with high amounts of fel energy. This is why the Illidari has always adopted the strategy of going to their planet, killing their leader there and then blowing up that planet. Also if you think about it, this is the strongest our player characters have been. We have legendary artifact weapons and Legionfall is composed of all class factions unified regardless of race. This is also the weakest the legion has been with both Archi and KJ dead. If Illidan didn't open this portal now, you just know Azeroth is going to go back fighting a defensive war in hopes of "rebuilding" faster against an infinitely respawning opponent as if that's possible. Either that or the Alliance and Horde go back to bickering again. So he forces everyone to fight the war the Illidari way. Go in there and kill them in their home planet OR everyone dies. Is it selfish? Yes but you can't deny it's effective.

The spirits of powerful demons would linger and they could be resurrected like anything else but they were quite dead in every other sense of the word. It wasn't until MoP that they introduced the idea that demons exist outside of realities/timelines and could only be killed in specific spots. Numerous times in the books and in WoW is it hinted that the body should be destroyed so that they can never return to a physical form or that if you slay a legion solider they are in fact dead. Multiple times in the War of the Ancients series they talk about how killing demons only puts a tiny dent in the Legions numbers. Many of the demons killed in WC3 and WoW were considered permadead by Blizzard themselves until at least MoP. Mannoroth was a HUGE example of this. Blizzard says not only in WoW but in commentary that Hellscream's sacrifice robbed the Legion of one of their greatest commanders. It was just a lazy way to reuse old villains and Blizzard knows it.

Pretty remarkable that its still a topic of debate - "What was Velen's gesture toward Kil'Jaeden?' - about a year after the fact. It absolutely wasn't redemption. KJ was far beyond being redeemed. The atrocities he committed were unspeakable over tens of thousands of years. It wasn't really absolution either...there was no finality of Kil'Jaeden's ultimate goal that Velen would have needed to acknowledge here. Forgiveness? Maybe. There may have been some at least SOME hint of forgiveness here. Velen clearly understood after all these years exactly why it was that KJ and Arche threw in with Sargeras. KJ pretty much lays it out in that broad statement that he thought Sargeras would've just wiped them all from the face of reality had they not thrown in with him. They wouldn't have been able to stop him, not at that time. What that gesture I believe truly was, though? Acknowledgement. Velen acknowledged KJ's guilt. With just the gesture of his hand, he told KJ "I know." He also acknowledged his own guilt. That gesture also said "I shouldn't have left." KJ's face softened at the touch. He knew that Velen was telling him "We will stop him. Now, you can be at peace." Knowing that Velen was aware of his guilt and that even here, he still showed his brother some modicum of care was enough for him to accept his fate without the standard "Blaaaaarrrrrgh!" of a villain. It was said that for centuries, KJ was angry at Velen for leaving them. That wasn't villainous anger, it was heartbroken anger. Overall, this was a very touching moment in the history of the lore.

Honestly Illidans actions make perfect sense. First he saw the the legion fully for what it is, tried to stop them and actually contributed a great deal by helping close the portal during war of the ancients. When he took action to preserve his people's immortality he was locked up for 10,000 years. When legion returned he was release as a mere tool of convenience and killed when he became inconvenient. Now he was revived I am sure he is not deluded enough to think things were going to be peachy. If he didn't force that portal open, everyone would think everything is peachy again go back to infighting. Label the next thing illidan does to prepare for legion as "reckless/dangerous" and lock him up or kill him again. Remember when he tried to take out Lick King during frozen throne? he was stopped because there would bystandards casualties which paled in comparison to shit that lich king did after he survived. So all in all, Illidan just put a constant reminder in the sky of the legion and forced a counter attack from Azeroth and created a possibility for Draenei to take back their home land. On a side note: I am hoping Illidan absorbed the power from Gul'dan and Kil'Jaeden so he can go beast mode against argus demons and get their power too. He is a demon hunter after all.

I am glad kil'jaeden got a little closure with Velen 7.3 better be worth the hype they built and not another broken shore that is somewhat boring. I am hoping for a full on war!

haven't they been working on Argus since they announced it a year ago? I hope Argus has a bigger role then what timeless isle/Tanaan jungle has had. there's a lot we could do then just push the legion off the planet and never go back.

For the record, KJ is one of the original ad guys. Before arthas, before illidan, before Sargeras, there was Guldans OG teacher KJ. And when Warcraft 2 came out; he became the legions go to guy. I see a lot of comments talking about how Velen reacted to Kil'Jaeden. My own personal opinion is he didn't feel retribution, anger, sorrow, or felt like he was redeemed, I think he just felt pity for him. It just feels the most in-character. He can't forgive him for being an evil PoS, but can still feel bad his friend chose that route.
