@@WartyFlute Why they scare you? Good keep you away. LOL Safer than Hurricane Alley, Mississippi fly-over floodplain that covers many states, or a pine oil/needle forest fire forest. (Note; the lava didn't start a forest fire). How many people get killed by lava again?

@J.DCU12 you live in ZONE 1-2? CHOICE
@stonew1927Ай бұрын
@J.DCU12 You have nothing to worry about. This flow is on the wrong side of Pu'u'o'o for it to flow down Kalapana way.
@punapeterАй бұрын
@J.DCU12 Wow prices have gone up eh? One FULL acre in the middle of HPP was only $9500. I few years after I moved in. I passed on any waterside crack shacks. I have a 36 kine hardwood jewerly box for a house. Stained glass and parquet floors. A house on the water by the cliffs, it the same old boring horizonline. Water sky. I prefer jungle koi ponds orchid on three acres a mile and a hald from the ocean. For when the Cascadia Event Tsunami rolls up to 10th again. Lotta people bought in Zone 1-2 cuz it's "cheap" good if you need to run away. But not gonna live like a refugee. LOL Haul water twice a month? WHY? no roof, no gutters? Waste of gas to get co. treated water. Rain mo betta. Delivered

@J.DCU12 That was ZONE 1. I'm in Zone 3 NO worries.

@whoeveriam0iam14222Ай бұрын
why does all this hot lava not cause forest fires when it pops up in heavily forested areas? does the regular rain make that much of a difference
@jmalexander131Ай бұрын
It does cause fires, eventually. The heat underground also boils the root systems, so trees in the area that do not burn will still whither and die. You'd be surprised how quickly plants and grasses spread back onto the lava once the eruption subsides.
@punapeterАй бұрын
Makes it's own weather this island. But yea on the WET side of the island isn't like Lahaina on the DRY side of Maui. We got Waikoloa, burns every year on our DRY side. You live in Volcano Village or Fern Forest, anywhere above 1000' and it's WET, MOLDY. Ferns are mold, BIG clue.

How long does it take for the new lava to be covered by the trees again. Years, decades or centuries?
@ShawnoAnDerDonauАй бұрын
Plants can start growing on cooled lava flows within a decade. Trees though, not sure, probably many decades.
