This is indeed a fantastic peated sherry whisky. Right up there with the Ardbeg Uigeadal, Caol Ila DE and Springbank 12 cask strength (my fav). Also I think the newer Kilchoman bottlings are far superior than the younger ones. I did not quite like their earlier releases including the Lock Gorm or the much hyped Machir Bay, but I do like this one. I don't have a sweet tooth and I prefer sherried whiskies that has the perfect balance between sweet and savory notes. This one does an excellent job of integrating the sherry with other flavors. The casks they use are of good quality and it shows in the flavor.

Totally agree, this stuff is low key brilliant. Best standard release Kilchoman. Personally I'd take it over Uigeadail! “Perfect balance between sweet and savoury” absolutely nails it! Wish I'd put that in the review! 😉

@@Gwhisky :) For me the Uigeadal inches ahead because of the smoked maple bacon/ ham notes I get which is quite characteristic of a lot of Ardbegs. I am partial when it comes to smoky meat flavors. And when balanced with those sherry sweetness and spices, its just heaven. The Loch Gorm mouthfeel actually reminds me of Clynelish 14, it has the same waxy resinous feel that coats your entire palate. Kilchoman has come a long way and if they maintain this quality, it can easily beat its big brothers on Islay. I have already marked it as my next distillery visit when I'm in that neck of the woods again.

@@yoursinsincerely39 "Clynelish 14, it has the same waxy resinous feel that coats your entire palate" when did you try it last ? Both my bottles (the second being the last one), while being decent value/profile/complexity for about £37 in the UK, had none of that mouthfeel/were flat ...maybe just unlucky with batches maybe the "waxiness" is some urban legend from generations ago I don't know.
@yoursinsincerely39 Жыл бұрын
@@tomtomtommyism I agree, that the newer batches lack that mouthfeel. I was referring to the older bottles. The "waxy" note, at least from personal experience was a distinct candlewax aroma followed by a silky mouthfeel. I get a similar note from Tamdhu 15. Newer Clynelish 14's are subjected to the famous Diageo chill filtration, so yeah. RIP.
@FEWGEE1 Жыл бұрын
@@tomtomtommyism they've probably started chill filtering it. Chill filtration removes that sort of mouthfeel.

I'm looking to grab the Fino release but this sounds like the Sweet Peat we all love! Have to venture outward and on the hunt for the Loch Gorm. Glad I waited and will certainly be checking out the date code on the bottle. I have a bourbon single cask... amazing stuff

It's top notch stuff, worth seeking out imo. One of my recent favs. Some of those single casks are truly fantastic!

G ..on your recommend invested in Sanaig and Loch Gorm .. Wow love me both Choc full of big flavours , first of all I thought I actually preferred the Sanaig but as the LG settled ..now I don’t know ,not so sure ,maybe there is a bit more to this …Early days the whisky settles / opens out and my taste changes over the days🤣 ..One thing for sure , neither disappoint ..Thanks for the recommends ..both absolute winners 👍🥃

Really love to see comments like this. Recommending an expensive product to people is always a risky endeavor. Always happy when it pays off. Sanaig has more bite, while the Gorm is more rounded and rich imo!

Try the Ardbeg Uigeadail for a great peat/ sherry dram. This one however is next on my list.

Haven't tried the 2020 yet. Seems like one to pick.

I’ll look out for it - has a feel from your notes of an oily Bunna. One ☝️ to add to the shelves

Hmm. Pretty different house style and sherry presentation, but if you like peated Bunna you should be just fine with this one. 🙂

Shalom, my friend! I remembered that you have a video about this bottle! I already wrote to you that I found a bottle of 2019 and bought it. It turned out that in the same store there is also one bottle of 2020! I asked to hold it for a couple of hours and now I am writing to you (price 114 USD) I know that you answer very quickly... I'm sure you will say that this is a worthwhile purchase 🙂 Waiting for an answer! Buy? Thank you so much 👋🏻

Sorry for the slow reply. I would say that it's quite expensive at that price, but it’s very good whisky. If you're typically a fan of this flavour profile I think it should be worth it. 🥃

@@Gwhisky I know it's not cheap but I'm actually surprised that I saw this bottle. In general, one way or another in Israel, prices are always too high! In any case, thanks a lot! Now go and buy! By the way, there is Finno 2020 at the same price... what do you say?
@Gwhisky2 жыл бұрын
The LG is much more sweet and fruity. The Fino is more dry and subtle. I like the Gorm personally. 🥃

Gorm was 175 $cad circa 2017, double the Sanaig, so i passed. now 2022, i hope it will carry a 10y label . . . who knows, it may go to 200 $CAD ! !

Eesh. Honestly that's pretty steep. Good whisky, but not for that price.
