Muslims have argued the New Testament contradicts itself on where Jesus was killed. Inside Jerusalem (Luke 13:33) or outside of the city (Hebrews 13:12).

*Five examples of the crucifixion being typologically foreshadowed in the Bible:* 1. *Ex 17,8-16:* Moses has to take the position of a crucified man, so that the enemy of the holy people can be defeated. Jesus defeated satan, sin and death of the cross. 2. *Ezk 9,4-6;* Gods judgement comes over Jerusalem. But all those who have the cross on their foreheads (the paleo-hebrew tav) will be save. A mark, with the same function as the blood of the lamb on the doorframe in egypt. You are save because someone else died in your place. 3. *Num 21,4-9:* Our sins (symbolized by serpents) will bring us death. But the believe in the Messiah, who took our sins on Himself on the cross (pole) will save us. 4. *The fruit of the tree of life, in the garden of Eden, gives eternal life* (Gen 3,22) *and was guarded by two Cherubims* (Gen 3,24). *Jesus is the fruit* (Lk 1,41-42) *that was hanged on a tree* (Acts 5,30) *and whoever will eat His flesh, will get eternal life* (John 6,54). *He was laid in a garden* (John 19,41) *and the garden was guarded by two Angels* (John 20,11-12). *God testified to His choosen high priest by bringing the dead tree back to life, which was then laid in the arc of the covenant, with two cherubim on top of it* (Num 17,16-26). 5. *The Binding of Isaac* *God ordered Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice and He calls Isaac the "only Son"* (Gen 22,2) *despite the fact that Abraham had another Son, Ishmael.* *God also has many sons, for example the angels, but He has an "only Son", Jesus, which is the Son of God in a unique way* (John 3,16). *Abraham took his son Isaac and laid the wood upon him* (Gen 22,6), *and Isaac carried the wood on the mount in the land of Moriah* (Gen 22,2), *and then Isaac was laid upon the wood to get sacrificed* (Gen 22,9). *The romans laid the wooden cross upon Jesus and He had to carry it as He walked upon the mount in the land of Moriah* (Lk 23,26), *and they laid Him on the cross and crucified Him.* *The land of Moriah was later called Jerusalem, and Moriah became the temple mountain* (2. Chr. 3,1). *But the binding of Isaac was not on the mount Moriah itself, but on a mount in the land of Moriah* (Gen 22,2), *maybe Golgatha, where Jesus was crucified over 2000 years later.* *Isaac asked his father: "where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" And Abraham said: "My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering."* (Gen 22,7-8) *Then after God stopped Abraham before he sacrificed his son, God gave a ram and they sacrificed the ram instead of Isaac* (Gen 22,13). *Jesus is the lamb of God* (John 1,29), *that was given by God as a sacrifice. Jesus laid down His life and took the punishment we deserve, in our place. He died instead of us, so that we can have the eternal life* (John 3,16). *The ram was caught in a thicket by his horns* (Gen 22,13). *They platted a crown of thorns and put it upon the head of Jesus* (Mt 27,29). *Abraham called the place "Jehovahjireh", that is, "The Lord will provide"* (Gen 22,14). *Abraham acknowledges he was enacting a prophecy of something God Himself would provide in the future. The story tells us what will be provided: the only son.*

Excellent. Could you please further explain the Exodus verse talking about Moses taking the position of a crucified man? I don’t quite fully understand…
@swissapologetics
@swissapologetics 4 ай бұрын
@@commonsenseapologetics God told Mose to take his staff and walk upon a hill, like Jesus took the cross and walked with it on golgatha. There Mose had to spread his arms, like a crucified man. As his arm were tired, two men one each side held Moses arms, like Jesus was crucified with two men, one to his left and one to his right. And through holdimg this position, the war against amalek, the archtype of an enemy of the holy people, like satan, had been won. In the same chapter, Mose had to hit a rock, so that the water came out of it and the holy people could live. "The Rock" is also a title of God in the Bible. So its again an illustration of the crucifixion. God, the rock, Jesus, was hit (Isa 53) and through that the water of life (Holy Spirit, John 7) was pured out to His holy people, so that we can have eternal life. Sry for my english. Its not my 1st language.

@@swissapologeticswe can only assume the Bible was corrupted in accordance to both the old and new testament and it proves and makes sense when the authors are strictly anonymous and Unknown! Especially with the names of the books being mere namesakes, proving beyond doubt they never met Jesus and are mere gossip regarding them. Anyways prove the authenticity and authorship of the bible first before showing us from your corrupted scripture, or do you think it is the Muslim's who sneak up the footnotes in the NIV that so and so verses and chapters were forgeries and added into the Bible?

@@Deathhellandthegrave It refers to one of the first messianic prophecies in the Bible. *Gen 3,15* And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Also typologically foreshadowed by David vs Goliath (wearing a scale-armor). It means that Satan is defeated, because the holy people are saved. He can not accuse us anymore for our sins before God.

Such a petty little argument. By the 1st century AD, the population of Jerusalem had grown too large for everyone to be housed inside the ancient walls. Those who lived in the immediate vicinity but beyond the walls were also considered residents of Jerusalem. The city extended beyond the walls. Tell these hyper-skeptics to go out and get real lives. SMH. Love your unpacking of this, too. Jesus was obviously not speaking literally here. With the Bible, you must always be ready to read between the lines.

@@Thatbky458 , the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is in the middle of Jerusalem itself. it would have been in the middle of 1st century Jerusalem as well. Jerusalem had changed mightily from the 1st century to the 4th, when Helena went digging there.

@@infestchristopher1457 Hello! I looked up the verses and I had a question for you. Which translation are you using? I looked up a bunch of different translation and the gist of them are "Evening came, and morning followed-the third day." (Genesis 1:13). "Evening came, and morning followed-the fourth day." (Genesis 1:19). I think whichever translation is being used are not translating based on the literary devices present in the Greek. I looked in the Greek and the translation I provided looks to be the most correct. The essence is that the evening and morning had passed and made up that day- be it the third or fourth. The day is comprised on the passing of the evening and the morning's arrival. It's similar in Genesis 1:5 (1st day), Genesis 1:8 (2nd day), Genesis 1: 23 (5th day), Genesis 1:31 (6th day), and then God rests on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2). Does this make sense? If you have any questions, whether related to this or otherwise, or any objections, I'd be happy to hear them and do my best to respond to them. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Ikr.😅 most contradictions come from lack of cultural understanding and making big deals out of small things. Such as Solomons bath not being pie equivalent of a circle. ... the order was build big bath Does it need to be a precise circle.? No. However there are some things I have trouble reconciling as God breathed. Not that it's a contradiction. But that as of a error that leads to harsh punishment. Deutronomy virgin test 😅 It's obvious the tokens of marriage is the bloodied sheets. I..e the hymen. The issue... hymens are not medically supposed to break and women are not medically supposed to bleed. I'm not a feminist I have a sever dislike of em. But in this... they may well have justification. Unfortunately many feminists go the next step to try and say being a virgin is a construct. But u know the story u give a inch The issue is glynocologists are going bananas trying to get country's to stop virginity checks. Professional glynocologists and obgyn can't tell a woman's sexual history. If a hymen covers the vagina completely it's called imperforate. And it doesn't allow menstrual blood through. I.e. infection. Surgery. The works. I've read articles after article. And the view and research is consistent. Duetronomy law if the man is lying gets a huge fine. Can't divorce and is public shamed But if by the fualty scientifically fallible test that even in country's where tampons like Iraq. A Islamic country for example. Where only 50 percent do bleed. Calls for stoning ... I have to ask my self. Is that cultural context. Absolutely almost all surrounding cultures practiced it. god is not cruel. God is not a lyer God is not a author of confusion. So we have a law that is one medically indictive of cuasing abuse. A law that all surrounding cultures practiced. We can tell it's abusive(i.e. unjust) I shudder to think that that wasn't God breathed. But can I in good judgment after repeated prayer for it to make sense for someone like i.p. to help. And to allow my heart to calm down over that barbarism. I just don't think I can be confident thinking that was from the spirit. I'm thinking the farasei and saducee may have put ink to paper

Because contradictions do matter, if in the bible it said that Jesus was white, yet 2 books down it said he was an Asian man, that would lead people to the idea that the bible is fallible and prone to mistakes. We as Christians must study the Bible harder to prove that these aren't contradictions to make sure the Bible holds up against scrutiny

Since Jerusalem was the capital, where the 71-member Sanhedrin high court is located and where those accused of being false prophets would be tried. Thus, Jesus realizes that it would be inadmissible for him to be killed elsewhere. It was in Jerusalem, just beyond the city walls that he died as the “Passover lamb.” (1 Corinthians 5:7)

I am not Christian and I am critical of the Christian religion but I really get annoyed by this kind of juvenile logic chopping. It is worthless and it just clutters up what should be a serious, honest, and thoughtful dialog. It is very common for ANY document including ones being produced today to have words or passages that need to be clarified. There are professions built around this fact. Like editors and proofreaders that help authors to correct erroneous, misleading, or ambiguous words and phrases and to clarify passages. Also understanding what a passage means is contingent on the context, both of the writer and the reader. Writing is a method of communications and is not an exact science so the idea that there are things that you call contradictions that need clarification is nothing that any other book would not require. The so called contradiction that is being discussed here is an artifact of your context in reading it: you are looking for reasons to discredit the biblical story. Which means that you are not very interested in honest attempt to understand what it actually means. If you were looking for a probable interpretation it might occur to you that if say i will meet you in Jerusalem it might mean in the environs of Jerusalem and not literally inside the walls of Jerusalem. It probably would have been clearer to translate it as "at Jerusalem".

We don't know how much Jesus knew about his mission. If he did know everything from the start or he had revelations from the Father. Jesus's double nature of being fully God and fully human is a mystery. In the gospel of John we see glimpses of Jesus knowing it all, when the disciples said to him, "Now we know you know everything", and Jesus also knew what was in every person's heart, so that is also an indication he knew everything. We can't be 100% sure though. But it doesn't matter, as what we do need to know is plain to us. Jesus is God and died for our sins, and whosoever believes in him shall be saved.

@Jim-Mc if we believe he is God, he wrote the whole Old Testament. He is the creator, so of course he knew the prophecies. If we don't believe he is God, then we have to think how easy would be for him to fulfill all these prophecies even if he tried. We have whole psalms talking about Him, and countless verses in the Old Testament that point to a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Then we have the reported miracles, then the whole resurrection thing that people believed and wrote it down and people believe in it 2000 years later. With all that taken into account, I believe it's impossible that a mere human being would achieve all that, no matter how well he knew the prophecies. It's much more likely something extraordinary happened. God revealed himself in the flesh.

I was always taught that the explanation is much simpler. The prophecies needed to be fulfilled before the Messiah was to die. Hence he could not be crucified except in Jerusalem. This explains the otherwise puzzling passage where a woman says the Jesus is truly the Messiah and Jesus rebukes her. If he allows anyone to proclaim him as the Messiah away from Jerusalem that will trigger the chain of events then and there that would lead him to being executed for treason. The passage that you are referring to is just a statement of this simple fact. If he is the Messiah prophesy says he will be executed in Jerusalem. But this is not a reference to whether the location is inside or outside the walls of Jerusalem but just that it can not be anywhere else in Israel.

If you guys just admitted you don't want to believe in God because you want to be hedonists, I'd respect your types so much more.

what if we tackle something more important than the geolocalization of Jesus at the time of His death? let's see if Jesus' prophecy became true, as it was written down in Mark 13:30 "Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." context is Mark 13:3-29 for this one, paying special attention to versicles 24 and 25.

Dear Christians Did you know that early Muslim scholars who were Christians and converted to Islam, wrote some of the original texts of the gospel? Especially those texts that explicitly mention the Prophet Muhammad's name. The amazing thing is that those verses of the gospels were around until the 1850s For instance, In the copy of the Bible printed in London in the year 1848, and the other printed in Beirut in the year 1884, and other older copies You will easily find in the Book of Habakkuk the text in the utmost frankness and clarity: (The heavens have been illuminated by the splendor of Muhammad, and the earth has been filled with his praise... Your rebuke in the rivers, and the ferocity of your voice. In the seas, O Muhammad, the mountains saw you and were terrified). Nowadays, this verse does not mention Prophet Muhammad at all. This is only one example; there are many others where Prophet Muhammad's name was written explicitly and deleted later on.

1848 and 1884 is about 1700 years too late to be original texts of Gospel. Any real Bible never even mentions Muhammed (police be upon him) because all of the books were written centuries before Muhammad (police be upon him) was born.

Honestly most quote contradictions aren't contradictions. I.p. is correct on many. Many is just reading through modern eyes. I've seen many contradictions and rebuttals. Wat bothers me is some of the moral dilemmas. Namely a hang up for me is the myth of the hymen and the deutronomy virgin test. It's obviously chok full of cultural quote context. So much so most surrounding cultures did this. But the hymen breaking is a medically myth. Bleeding from quick rough forceful entry. Hymen are meant to stretch. So we have a law requiring women to bleed on there first time. 😅 Or there stoned. ... clearly there is a problem Also the stuff with onan. In genises Legally the kid would have been the dead brothers. Legally onan would be forced to give up money and land. To his deceased dead brothers legal quote legal son. Despite the kid being biologically yours. 😅 That is messed up. Now in that culture in that custom he did have duty. And the woman was being wronged. So within that culture onan was wrong. My issue. That custom. I think this is why the church tries to make this about masterbation. It's clearly coitus interrupts. (Pulling out) Refusing conjugal rights. So I think the church diverts people's attention. With this to keep people believing it. But ya I believe in God and christ. But I think we as people need to be reasonable on the old testament There is 1000 years of us having no manuscripts From 1200 to dead sea qumron community. After that we have many manuscripts showing great consistency But 1000 years where there are no copies ? Sounds real 🤨 sus

Yep, yet more contradictions in this supposed set of books thta have a perfect editor. It does contradict itself here, and many many other places. It's great fun to watch the acrobatics that christians go through trying to make their bible less ridiculous. "3 Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed away from Jerusalem.” 34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! " Luke 13 "12 Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the city gate in order to sanctify the people by his own blood" Hebrews 13 It's always great to see christians whine that something is being interpeted as "hyper literal". There is nothing metaphorical in saying this location and it stands alone from the metaphorical sentence after it, so this excuses fails as they often do. And why can't we say that that resurrection is just "hyper literal" and never really happened at all. Ah, because without that nonsense, the cult fails. IP also fails in trying to claim that the city is "really" the religious authorities, who aren't the ones who killed Jesus. the romans did. Again, the desperate defense of yet one more contradiction fails.

Not at all. He simply pointed out that context is what matters. Jerusalem was the place and the people. The context of what was said matters. And it is no surprise that this has never been an issue to those closest to the event, but rather causing confusion in a different language removed from the culture 2000 years later. The religious authorities were absolutely responsible. The Gospels literally record their conversation about how it is better for a man to die for the people as suggested by the high priest- John 11:47-57. It was absolutely the religious leaders, EXACTLY as it was with the prophets. Judas betrayed Him to the Jews, not the Romans. He was handed over to the Romans by the Jews to be crucified, as they did not have the authority to do this themselves under Roman law. The Romans did not want to condemn Him but Pilate gave in to pressure from the Jews to avoid the leaders instigating a riot. Both Jew and gentile were guilty of the crucifixion, as I believe God intended. But it was the corrupt religious leaders at the head just as it was in the days of the prophets. Jerusalem has always been of upmost importance to the Hebrews. It was the site of most religious and governmental importance since the time of David. That is why no prophet was killed outside Jerusalem's authority. To say that because no prophet would be killed outside Jerusalem MUST mean he was saying the prophets MUST be murdered within the city gates is laughable. That's like saying no foreign policy is decided outside of DC.....but we all know it is the authority of DC that sets the foreign policy, not that those involved must physically be IN DC to make decisions.

@@TommyNitro The context doesn't support what he claims. And it's great how your god can't make itself clear. Quite an impotent god you have. It's just a story since there is no evidence for any of it.And no one is "guilty" for any cruxifiction. Your god is the one who needed a human blood sacrifice by torture to make itself happy, so there is no other person responsible for these silly actions than your god. And unsurprisngly, JC fails as the jewish messiah, so if any of this is true, the jews were in the right. It's great how christains have to change the meaning of words and grammar to try to make their incoherent bible make sense. If "no prophet" can be killed outside of jerusalem, then that directly means that all must be killed inside of jerusalem. No prophets can be killed outside of jerusalem Jesus is a prophet Jesus must be killed inside of jerusalem. it's that easy. Your analogy fails since nothing says no foreign policy is decided outside of DC. The government doesn't have an "outside" dear. neither does judaism. The context, someting that you christians always love, until you don't, says outside.

This is just so pedantic and juvenile. You search the Internet head to toe to find these out of context quotes and think they're such damning evidence when it just shows you that you didn't read the content. I'd respect atheists so much more if they dropped the presence and the pageantry and just outright said "I don't want god to exist so I can play with my Weiner and not feel bad about it!!"
