Owned this bow for 48 hours.. Got it on Thursday, sighted it in on Friday (10 shots).. Saturday morning, opening day Sept 17th, climbed in my stand and cocked the bow.. As the sun came up, the right limb exploded!! Still in the cocked position and one limb shattered... Bought a new Bear Burner 420 crossbow so I didn't completely trash my opening weekend.. Heard this happened with this bow, but very few times.. Looks like I was the next one in line!!

My rule of thumb on suggested arrow weight starting out is at least 50gn higher than the advertised speed of your crossbow. I got this idea from the 325gn Mossy Oak arrows from Walmart with a 25gn lighted nock and 100gn broadhead totalling 450gn. I shoot a Barnett XP400. It's kinda my sweet spot for enough speed and kinetic energy. Thanks for the video man.

KI does make a crossbow arrow that does weigh more than these: 1068-6. They are 350 grains without the field point or broadhead. If a person would add just a 150 grain field tip, you're at 500 grains already. Swhackers all the way! Add some #2 Nocturnal lighted nocks, and you will have some terrific FOC along with kinetic energy. If more people would follow your advise and build up a heavier crossbow arrow, we would see a significant drop of limbs splintering...

Great job on this video, and it's impressive accuracy! I noticed at the very end that you're using the inexpensive Universal Lighted nocks from China. I shoot a KI riper 415. My bolt setup is: KI hypr ke bolt (350 grn), 125 grn. swhacker broadhead, and a 25 grn. Lighted nock. Equals a 500 grn. bolt. No messing around. Only other thing you could do is to spine index 'em so they all fly the same. I just saw a ad for the ki vital-x 430 with dsc crank for $349 - its a great time to be getting into crossbows.

One thing I always do when tuning arrows is make sure the end is square. Any time I have an exposed shaft end, I run it on the arrow squaring tool. Even my inserts after I have glued them in and let them set. Obviously you might need some different grits sandpaper for some metals like brass or steel, but with some effort you can make them good and square too. I also find that I get LESS loosening of tips since there is more friction with the roughed up insert face. Factory processes yield pretty good metal products these days, but stuff still happens and can yield slightly off inserts (they often vary in weight right?). Unfortunately I don't have a great way to ensure that the tip or broadhead back is square, but if everything else on the shaft is square, it is easier to mitigate that. Do what you can right? I have seen you mention doing this in other videos, but my 2¢ is just with the inserts.

Great video! Question for you with building my crossbow bolt FOC setup. I'm going to stick with the stock bolts that came with my crossbow - 360 FPS. Trying to decide of which of the below 2 options to go with. FYI...I've took removed the brass insert and nock to weigh shaft with vanes for a total weight of 250 grains. My question is should I keep the stock 100gr insert for total bolt build of 525gr - OR - go with 110gr brass insert for total bolt build of 535gr? Would 535gr bolt be too heavy shooting out of a 360 FPS crossbow? Option 1: - Easton Carbon Bloodline Shaft/vanes = 250gr - Lighted Nock = 25gr - Easton factory insert = 100gr - Magnus Stinger Broadhead = 150rg Total Bolt Build = 525gr Option 2: - Easton Carbon Bloodline Shaft/vanes = 250gr - Lighted Nock = 25gr - Easton factory insert = 110gr - Magnus Stinger Broadhead = 150rg Total Bolt Build = 535gr

Yes & no. With 22" shafts for my XP is really where I found this 110+150 "recipe." When I went over the 260 ish total up front with 22" shafts is where I started seeing perfect bullet holes turn into nock high tears. With that said, if you wanted to shoot the stock 65 grain HYPR bolt insert and a 200 grain point, that should work! I also think 20" bolts can handle more up front weight than the 22's, I just don't know how much more. Waiting on a new sirius ranch fairy test kit, once I get that I can tinker some more. Also, Tyree Appleberry has made HYPR and HYPR Lite bolts between 500-600 grains, reach out to him if you're looking for a recipe right now.
