These licks really gets you going into the territory of "fusion-like" playing and makes you understand some of its concepts. Very helpful :)

Thanks for sharing David, love your style of playing. I'm still learning to do all this and to understand what it is you're doing. I'm in my second year of studying jazz and we haven't come this far yet, but this is the direction I want to go eventually. I would love to help you anyway I can with tabs and all, but for the moment I'm kinda short on time myself. I really want you to become one of KZbins' most appreciated guitar players, because I know what you can do.

Great licks and everything you need from an instructional. Really helps to see a scale put into a musical context. Thanks.

This is the best guitar sites I've ever seen. On another note, pun intended, I look at other websites on legato instructions, but I just barely get a few notes in that way. Excellent video and guitar ideas here.

@GuadalupeBatista The dorian scale is a mode in the major harmonic scale. Think of it like a box like the boxes in the pentatonic scale, but just like all the other modes in the major harmonic scale, the dorian mode can be used as a scale on it's own, making all the other modes in the major harmonic scale your other boxes.

@Wallimann hmm I'm assuming the info for these group classes is on your site, I'll be sure to check it out in depth when I have some more time on my hands. You're videos are really useful, and the best part I think is that you combine a nice balance of practicality, explanation, and humour, which keeps it interesting and sets it aside from other videos which just throw licks and terminology at you. I'll defiantly be getting some of those jam tracks. And 30% off? mmm I like!

HI Wallimann....Thanks for sharing all of this great stuff. I have a question about lick #1...Please excuse my naive question, as I am still learning about lead guitar. You said that this lick, as all the rest, is in B dorian. I don't understand why there is an F natural at the end of the lick. Could you please explain? It would be very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks!

Just discovered this. Great stuff, David. Without but probably sounding like a jerk, I've played for a long time, have studied with Mike Stern (great guy) and others. Have some tools, always looking for more. Inside out playing is so key to fusion and so much fun. Mick Goodrick and Charlie Banacos are so helpful that way. But love your licks. Like that they're not too long cause otherwise that's an easy way to lose players and students. Including me. Cheers!

You don't sound like a jerk, Paul. What I heard was "I've studied with one of the greatest jazz guitarists in the world, and can learn even more from David Wallimann." That's noteworthy praise as far as I'm concerned.

@GuadalupeBatista dorian is the second mode of the major scale......if you play it with no sharps or flats it would be D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D
@PaulTheSkeptic10 жыл бұрын
Okay so I learned all the licks and practiced them until I could play them as fast as you. Tomorrow my fingers will promptly forget them. But even if they didn't I don't see how I can learn to improvise like this. I know the scales and positions but how do I put it all together where my fingers will move like this automatically? Thanks for the lesson.
