Happy New Year George, nice North Country pattern to start off 2022. Also known in my neck of the woods as a "Woggy Hen". I like the fact that you use the upper coverts for the hackle of the fly, whereas the original recipe called for the lower coverts. The sheen of the upper feather is far better and contrasts nicely with the body. Looking forward to all your forthcoming fishing posts. all the best

Happy New, Mr. George! I've never learned to fly fish but it looks like a lot of fun. Our creek on the farm had mostly panfish (bluegill, sunfish), bullhead catfish, smallmouth bass and a few rock bass aka crappie in these parts. A fisherman Uncle gave me an old flyrod that had been broken and shortened as a result so he said it wasn't suitable for fly-fishing but it would work with monofilament line for the bank fishing we typically did. I used it some, but mostly stuck with my Zebco 101 or 33 spincast reels. No trout in Central Indiana to my knowledge.

Hi there,good to see another pattern from your vice.The original body fur was water Vole(Ratty from Wind in the Willows book)but I’ve always used Mole and had plenty of Troots on it,larger sizes are good for Sea Trout as well.Wishing you all the best for the New Year,tight lines and looking forward to more of your excellent films.Cheers from Bonnie Scotland.

Hi George, has this fly earn its keep on river's mainly, or have you caught alot on stillwaters too
@springerspanielful3 жыл бұрын
I fish it principally on rivers,however I have caught wild trout in lakes with it,my father whenever he fished lakes always used traditional river wets and was very successful.

Happy New Year George, I dont tie my own flies at the moment but, when it comes to feathers and fur, I come across a lot of bird and animal road kill, so materials would not be a problem. Maybe something I should try in this new year--simple North Country Spiders might be a good way to start. I always like how you begin and end your videos with a Gaelic greeting and farewell. I do need to learn the language. My family came to Australia from Liverpool in the mid-60's--"Ten pound tourists ! " Originally, the Hynes family came from Ireland. I should look more into the origins. My wife and I play a lot of Irish music, as well as other styles. She plays guitar, lute and banjo-- ( the much more talented half! ) and I, the bodhren. Cheers, Steve

G'day Steve,never too late to learn I always say.Flytying can be as simple or as complicated as you like to make it.Most of my most consistent flies are simple ties.And there are Irish language groups all over the world,including Australia,where there are a lot of people of Irish heritage,look them up.Áth mór a chara.

I have a 15month old German pointer alot of the time he's holding birds but other times he holds them but not long enough and he runs in and flushes the bird. Have u any advice on how to stop him from doing that or will he just develop and hold point for longer when he gets older. Thanks George love ur chanel
