No one at the time thought that orcas were able to intentionally strand, grab a seal pup and get off the beach. This was because no one had ever documented such an incident. Thanks to series like this;we know that intentional stranding is a learned behaviour taught to orca calfs from a very young age.

Jean-Marc Nunes I hate to call you daft, but you are daft. This video obviously uses the world "whale" in its traditional meaning to exclude dolphins, because, I as said, dolphins do it all the time.

Killer whale is an alternate name for Orca, they weren't describing whales as a group just the Orcas which you rightfully said are dolphins, but Sir David likes to use the other name for them which is Killer Whale. Also I apologise for commenting eight months late.

AvulturenamedGoob Let's apply some logic to your statement, and I apologise if this sounds rude: a) we've got a statement "no other whale beaches itself deliberately in this way"; b) you're claiming the word "whale" here is short for "killer whale" and stands for the orcas only; c) therefore, Sir David is saying that "no other orca beaches itself deliberately in this way, this is the only orca in the world that does this". I hope you see my point.

I would have never thought that the whales would know the difference between a seal and the camera man. Or that a hungry whale would even care. In no way would I have gotten in the water to test a theory...and that is why these camera guys are great and I just sit at home safely watch their footage.

Off the coasts of California and Mexico, Orcas have been found to hunt Great Whites. One of the Orcas learned techniques is to flip the shark over, which puts the shark into something resembling sleep. It then kills the shark by drowning it. I would be more afraid of the Orcas because of their intelligence.

Charles Heffinger not all cats are able to adjust to that tho. and I don't believe we have the right weather over here (England) for all year round feralness. I believe a cat should have a choice, outside life and food and warmth! Cat prefer the inside life. (domestic cats)
