I was really pissed off when they killed Villanelle. But honestly later on I do understand why they did it, Villanelle was completely past the point of ever being able to integrate into society. Not really like she can hold down a job or do anything remotely normal. I'm not sure if realistically she/ the relationship could survive. But I wish the ending had been...more satisfying. Because everything now sucks for Eve. They should have both been shot.

Couldn’t agree more. Season 1 & 2 are some of the greatest seasons of tv ever. I agree that season 3 went downhill, but season 4 was abysmal. I felt like it was a different show; not only did the tone shift, but the writing of the characters betrayed who they were previously. For me personally, I was lost on some of the storylines. I still don’t understand Carolyn’s storyline especially with the flashbacks. So she was there when the 12 was created, but she was always working for the other side? Still can’t figure out if she was meant to be good or bad. The best thing to come out of the this show is Jodie getting more exposure. Can’t wait to see what else she does!

Old thread, but somehow Villanelle et al are timeless. So yes: I largely stopped trying to make sense of S4, just leaned back and enjoyed the acting, especially Jodie Comer, who until late November 23 I had never heard about. We (my daughter and I) only chanced upon KE because we had finished the first draft of a novel centered on a young lesbian couple who get entangled in a network of global conspiracies. We than casually googled around to check if similar stuff is out there. Boom! Killing Eve just then was out on Netflix Germany. We couldn't believe it at first how similar they were! None of our two ladies is a professional killer, but one of them is a pretty ruthless badass martial artist and has the potential. What we realized when we watched KE is that it is really easy to loose track of a part of the original story-line when another aspect becomes more interesting and more dominant. I suppose that's what happened with "The Twelve". The relationship dynamic between Eve and Villanelle is far more interesting. Their bickering and bantering is infinitely funnier and more fascinating than any story about some kind of dusty old story about a cold war era conspiracy in black-and-white. As a result the Twelve thingy drifted out of focus, never was properly explained and always felt somewhat artificial when it was forced into the story. That Villanelle finally killed the heads of what was depicted as a mighty global crime network within minutes, unarmed and without preparation, was ridiculous. I didn't care at all about the Twelve. Seeing Eve and Villanelle on the road, eating curly fries, doing the dishes, bantering, was far more entertaining than the entire half baked conspiracy story. The emotions and flying sparks between the two felt real. The Twelve didn't. Even Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in an interview are more interesting!

Here's the correct ending (without retiring the entire episode or season): They both get shot while hugging, they both go over the side, they reconnect underwater, they both get hit again and drift away. Carolyn says "jolly good" and we see MI6 take her back (because that was painfully unclear). Then we see Eve and Villanelle together in "paradise" somewhere in the south of France, and we're left to wonder if they lived or died but assured that whatever the case they ended up together.

I felt like a child who was given the exact toy they'd been dreaming about seconds before learning about the parents's divorce. I rushed to the internet after just finishing the final season and this video is the first thing I found. I first watched Killing Eve during a really difficult time, and I fell head over heels for it. I really loved it, and you're totally right- I now feel stupid for ever getting excited about the final season. I watched the first episode when it came out- the silly Jesus character completely put me off watching any further as I was so scared it was going to be ruined. Last week, I thought 'no, give it another chance, it's Killing Eve afterall'. And oh my god, how can you destroy a tv series so badly? I found myself letting it play whilst I was doing chores, episode after episode until I realised I was on the finale. I was the same- checking time stamps throughout the episode shaking my head. It all felt utterly soul crushing, and I really thought we'd see Carolyn's daughter make an appearance too. The plot of season 4 was so VAGUE I found myself questioning if I had missed deeper plot points or meaningful conversations, but no, it was all just filler. I guess the only comfort is knowing everyone else feels the same. What a huge shame. I'm going to pretend it all ended in season 3.

Villanelle is the best. One thing I liked about the first three seasons is that the viewer ends up being charmed and loving Villanelle like Eve does even though she is a bad person. What the hell happened with season 4? How could it go from such a great show to that?

My best guess why Pam exists is to have a justification for Konstantin to still be around. When I re-watched the season I skipped all her scenes. I liked the cabin and road trip scenes. Eve and Villanelle doing the dishes. The normal boring stuff Villanelle told Martin she longed for with Eve. That was kind of nice. But indeed -- much of the season is incoherent, confusing, uninspired and partly outright surreal -- but not in any way in a good way. I also don't understand why they had to depart so far from the ending in Luke Jennings book series. In "Die for Me" he wrapped it up perfectly, and fans could put the book aside, pull the covers up and go to sleep with a satisfied sigh. Why change something that already was perfect? It's a mystery... Or is the "happy end" supposed to be that they took down "The Twelve"? In the books this group is pretty much depicted as the world's most powerful conspiracy network and crime syndicate. And in the books it turns out, rather realistically, that two women, no matter how skilled and determined, are lightyears away from taking down such an organization. So they fail completely and actually make things worse, barely survive with a lot of hardship, but they did in the end find their little corner of happiness -- together. I should add, perhaps, that when I first watched the season 4 finale I was blissfully ignorant of the fact that there wouldn't be a continuation. Since I had read the Novells it was pretty much unthinkable for me that Villanelle really would be dead, especially since the underwater scene with Villanelle being carried away by the currents occurs in the last book as well -- as a nightmare from which Eve awakes in Horror...

@TianaT42 жыл бұрын
Wow, this is the perfect way to describe it all. Well done. The show was ruined because they ruined Villanelles character primarily. The development of Villanelle wanting to change was always gonna be betrayal of a character. She loved her life, she loved being the adorable psychopathic assassin, loved the power she had, as Phoebe would describe her „glory“ as: her subversiveness, her savage power, her insistence on lovely things. She loved that even beside how murderous she is, Eve wanted to know everything about her, that twisted feeling of passion and suffering was essentially what drew eve towards her. And no matter how much she liked Eve she would never think about changing for her, because she loved that eve is trying to deny it but deep down is essentially what she wants and is exactly how Eve would be too, had she not been confined by morality and society‘s rules. V was free in Eve's mind and she wanted to be free too. She says it herself, she felt wide awake while working with V. So season 3 and season 4 completely butchered everything that fans loved about the twisted dynamic of the two. It was never gonna work. It’s a weak and illogical plot development. They didn’t know what to do to a point where they started leaning on clown and Jesus costumes for humor. It became a shit show. It is a shame they had to ruin a masterpiece of a story and lately we see it happen far too often on TV and in movies. I get that it is insanely difficult to write a character who is as complex as Villanelle, who is by far more interesting as a person than you, yourself, but It is just so damn sad we live in a society where when you don't know how to write something, asking for help is never an option. Season 3 was the beginning of the end of the real KE and season 4 just made sure no trace of the old KE was left. Season 2 writer did an amating job of understanding who the characters are and continuing what Phoebe intended. Sometimes I think we should talk more about those who did an amazing job rather those who fucked up the show, how come everyone knows Lauras name and hardly anyone knows Fennell?
@mothanne3172 жыл бұрын
We should definitely uplift those who did a great job, that's a great point about Fennell. When I was watching the first episode of S4, I honestly thought that the conversion was Villanelle trying to trick Eve at first given how out of character it was. I feel like if they were going to give Villanelle a redemption arc, it should have been something small and still in-character. For example, her killing those abusive husbands in Cuba. Even that was a bit on the nose for me, though. Thanks for watching the video!

@@mothanne317 You are most welcome, you made me laugh quite a bit so thank you for that! :) And yeap, exactly. The show was trying to show us that people are grey, everyone who apprears as white and good, also has dark sides, and at the same time those who are dark and monstrous could also sometimes have feelings, no matter how twisted they are. That is why it was so damn good because it felt real... and at the end they kill the 'evil'.. so basically shat on everything that was built through the seasons. Look, I am not saying neither of them should have died, I kinda can see how it could end that way for them, but had they did it in a way that makes sense and got them together from episode 1 and throughout explore this complicated relationship that we all wanted to see, are they gonna kill each other or love each other? And then at the end kill one of them, sure... But make it to have sense and be meaningful and as much as it hurts, still be satisfying (like the Red wedding GOT). That is how we will remember it and feel the pain, now I just felt sorry for the story that went to shit and while watching my favorite character sink, all I felt was confusion and anger. I kind of disagree. It's true that Villanelle loved her life, but also she said she felt nothing and she desperately wanted to fill that void, so I would say it's natural for her to seek change. I think season 3 captured it very well with a few minor errors (I don't think we needed Villanelle to go home and confront her mother), however season 4 completely remade the character. She was no longer an assassin who feels nothing, but an assassin with absolutely no agenda. There is literally nothing, no aim for her. Before, it was fascination with Eve. I think handling the aftermath of the bridge scene was absolutely crucial for the final season to work and the writers did it horribly which made the season a mess.

I have so many gripes with this season and the ending but I think the biggest one is that the lack of payoff with the scorpion/frog parable is blatantly bad writing. It's apparently so important that they put it in the trailer but not so important that they... actually stuck to the parable. Rather than them both dying as a result of V's actions and Eve's regression, the analogy is now this: While halfway across the river, the scorpion decides that it won't sting the frog, only for a hawk to swoop down, snatch the scorpion off the frog's back, and chuck it full force into the river, where it drowns. The frog then stops in the middle of the river and screams because what the hell just happened.

Killing Eve often dealt in the grey channels and celebrated women who either aspire to or are already living outside of rules, ethics and mores of conventional society using the spy world as a springboard although not without consequence but in it's final run under Laura Neal with the backing of Mrs. Gentle the shows direction took a turn for the black & white which felt too late in the day. There's so much about the finale that felt as self defeatist, contradictory and pretentious as most of KE's funeral season. For instance, Villanelle dying and getting her blood shaped wings after being shot to death was meant to be sign of ascension but descended back into the darkness from whence she came. Eve's scream was meant to signify freedom but instead it was just pure pain and anguish. After all the trouble to find the 12 Leaders they still remain faceless and are dispatched so easily. The kiss was meant to be less romantic than intended but ended up being more so if not quite cinematic. Point being that so much of what was put to screen didn't match the lead writers vision.

I agree with you when you say they did nothing to further or resolve one of the main plot points: the twelve. They really lacked here by not giving us ANYTHING, their motives, their reason for being on the ship, or even their faces, and the fact they all just died so easily in under 3 minutes without putting up much of a fight, it felt like they just gave up on writing. I also agree with you that Villanelle's death was just meaningless in relation to the plot with the twelve; since like Carolyn says, they keep replacing them, it just felt pointless that even if Villanelle supposedly killed all of them in the room, there wouldn't be more out there, banding together again, and Carolyn just killed off the "weapon" she used. The show really just didn't go deep enough into the original point they were trying to build up; how dangerous this organization was and how complex it was. However, I do disagree with what you said about nothing came out of the two character arcs for Villanelle and Eve in the end. Eve's consequences of her obsession is more than portrayed here; she already lost everything once, and now that she's pursuing Villanelle for real, she just as quickly loses her. It made sense to kill Villanelle (although I definitely wished they both survived together happily). Villanelle was seen as nothing more than a weapon for both MI6 and twelve. She wanted to reform? Well too bad, she was already in too deep. Killing Villanelle was the perfect way to ensure Eve's obsession with everything; working in MI6, the twelve, the unraveling of her morality, stopped. Carolyn knew this, she played them in more ways than one, especially Eve. She knew what made Eve tick and how to make her stop. Getting at Villanelle would ensure that Eve is also out of her way for good. (Although IMO Eve would definitely go and shoot Carolyn before moving on, but she would definitely stop meddling with the twelve or MI6 affairs for good.) A good ending for the both of them is if Eve realized, after her final conversation with Carolyn, that Carolyn was just going to use Villanelle and Eve to kill the twelve for her. Eve is smart, and on top of that she *knows* Carolyn has had a shady past and motives; it would've been more realistic to see that she realized all of this, and brought Villanelle away with her somewhere far and escaped the twelve's drama for good. They would've broken the cycle, escaping the web that traps them into this "game", and it would resolve their character arcs (Villanelle starts a new life away from her killing, and Eve is able to move on from her obsession with the twelve). That would not only have been a good theme but also given us a happy ending while keeping it realistic. ^That being said, I think a character like Pam was important to show; she's someone recruited and trained by the twelve, and in a sense she "escapes" the web of death the twelve would lay for her if she had continued her job or even taken on Carolyn's offer. Her killing of Konstantin is symbolic of her breaking this chain and following his advice for her, to live a better life away from being an assassin. If Villanelle and Eve could've had this too, it would have been more fulfilling to see. In the end, I guess we can really only take it as a character dive into Eve; where she does ultimately let her obsession with seeing things through with the twelve blind her from anything else and destroys everything, even the last bit of life she was hanging on to (Villanelle), die in front of her hands.

Everyone is saying the book ending is much better. They actually end up together and get the happy ending in Russia. Which honestly I don't mind that either of them died, actually the way this ended I think they both should've died. Keep up the star crossed lovers thing going. I am pretty sure the scene with fish tank was a nod to Leonard Dicaparo's Romeo and Juliet. But at least give us more of Eve and Villanelle. 4 seasons of building up to this moment and we only get 5 mins of it? That's messed up

The best part of how this show began was how obsessive the two were. That obsession was dangerous, thrilling, unpredictable, manic and even sexual. The tension from it was all consuming and I think a lot of us were captivated by it.

i HATED the end bc i identified with Villanelle who was never taught about love growing up so she seeks it in someone else turning it into an obsession bc it's the only thing that can make her feel something. She didn't care about anything else really, so i believe she genuinely loved Eve and as i said, it's sad to see her terrible ending after watching her giving in everything to finally stop and be happy with that person who loved her as hard as she did. They changed the ending and decided not to kill Eve bc she represented the people, but what about Villanelle? They completely forgot about her, and her psychological background.

Eve started off as the surrogate for the shows audience while Villanelle was the one the show revolved around. In the end Villanelle ended up being both because she had more about her to identify with than Eve who's the titular character. Plus the treatment of the Villanelle character was like that of a denouncement exercise.

I think season 4 was about Villanelle trying to be good and Eve trying to be bad. They start the season being on the opposite extreme: Eve playing the killer and Villanelle playing the good christian. Then we see them progressively finding limitations when trying to become that and comimg back to their initial trends. By the end, on that last scene, we see that, as Carolyn stated, they are actually what we could expect them to be: Eve being the friendly good person dancing and Villanelle being the killer, both average and predictable in their side of morality, and totally unable to handle the reality on which they were involved. The only one who moved between good and bad and knew what she was really into, was Carolyn. Thats why I think the Twelve plot was never the main thing but only served to the purpose of connecting both worlds (average legal life & shady political criminal business) and make the characters question if they can pass to the other side. At the end, they just can't.

Probably the best observation for Killing Eve's 4th season and the direction taken with the characters. Less patronising, less sanctimonious and less pretentious than the showrunner & creators explanations in their post finale interviews. Until the final lap of the series KE sat comfortably in the grey area when dealing in ethics, morality, amorality and values. In S4, the change in the shows trajectory to which Carolyn was exempt, saw Eve & Villanelle judged within the black and white channels. If you wish, I could go on.

@@ErinArikan This overview of the 4th season highlighted how much in opposition it was of the previous understanding that both Eve & Villanelle were very much alike minus latters the body count and the formers ability to integrate with conventional society, thus defeating the narrative of them being two halves of the same coin seeking to become whole through one and other. As a result Eve's embrace of her "darkness" failed to live up to the hype since it was so artificial and the only change Villanelle was allowed to make was that of self awareness of not only her nature but of her moral inferiority. Carolyn as a supporting character who in the end emerged victorious at their expense was elevated to the star of the show since the S4 was essentially hers. And don't get me started on what a joke the 12 plot was.

I had to come to the internet to process what I had just watched so thanks for the analysis. I had always expected that there should be no happy ending what with V being a psycopath. S1 was so good that I truly believed this was a show that was going to give us a satisfying ending, even if it would not be a happy one. As the seasons went on, I started to lose that hope but still trusted the writers to finally clean up nice in the season finale because that's what you should do, right? For the finale, you buck up? Hm. That alternate theory for Carolyn's daughter was actually really good. Gemma Whelan was wasted on such a boring role when she had so much to offer. The writers had so many alternatives to explore yet all they gave us was boring Pam. It was such a waste of a good character in V and talents of Jodie and Sandra. The only good thing to come out of this show was Season 1 and that gave us Jodie Comer and her star has shone brighter than ever.

I have so many realizations after seeing this vid but I also have the same thoughts as you for what's the deal with the 12 is and who really kills Kenny. I'm also curious on what Konstantin wrote to Carolyn in his letter delivered by Pam after his death. As for the ending, it is true that Eve should die instead of Villanelle cause just what you say, she has a lot to do in this world and the fact that she is a psychopath, she can mourn the death Eve and minutes after she had already moved on. And just like you said contrast to Villanelle's character, Eve had already lost almost everything to chase the 12. It's a waste to kill one of the best characters in this show. AND minutes before the ending we can really see that Villanelle and Carolyn really have a great bond with the way how Villanelle greets Carolyn in the bar. The ending is very frustating and depressing. I have been commenting this many times but the season 4 is really the worst season of the show. It's badly written and the ending is made in a rush. The producers said they had brainstormed what is the right ending for the show but for me, the ending was written for the sake of ending the show. In my opinion, the writers didn't really brainstormed enough to have that ending. ALSO, I thought in season 4 we can get to see how Eve and Villanelle's relationship would work out like we get to explore on the development of their relationship but instead we just saw them going back to square one which is being apart and trying to avoid each other again and they also having different partners. Everytime I see Tusuff (I forget his name), I just get irritated. And also you're idea of Eve and Villanelle teaming up to find the 12 discovering the Carolyn is the top of the 12 through the works of Geraldine alongside Irina working for the 12 would a much better plot for season 4 instead of adding new characters and Villanelle trying to change but failed miserably. Helene is also great but her death is definitely not. For her being part of the 12 makes her a highly skilled assassin but her fight scenes with Villanelle just gives off a vibe that she's just a normal oligarch fighting for her life. Just wished the fight scenes could be more intense. Gosh I have so much to say but this comment would be really long so I will just stop here. LASTLY, I think Phoebe Waller-Bridge could gives a better plot and ending for season 4 than Laura Neal. Just saying.

I agree with almost everything except for Pam’s pointlessness. I liked her, and think the point of her character was for her to be Konstantin’s redemption (for himself if nothing else). She was like a blank Villanelle to him, still with the hope of not becoming like her. So it was his chance to stop the cycle that created Villanelle by appealing to Pam’s humanity that was still salvageable.
@unknownentity94684 ай бұрын
I think it would've been so much better if Pam's role in season 4 was instead fulfilled by Irina. Irina's character and plotline was left by the wayside, and I think it would've been a much better arc for both Konstantin and Irina for him to save her from the 12, redeem himself, and then Irina somehow accidentally kills him or something. Pam's character just felt shoehorned in and we didn't need to be introduced to a new character when things were supposed to be wrapping up.

V is nothing in the books like she is within Jodie on TV. Of course I was crushed at the end but I liked every season b/c i love Jodie/Villanelle. she always makes me laugh (and cry). "are you from pinner" was my favorite ep too. i think the pandemic ruined Killing Eve (among everything). the end was totally rushed. totally.

I have heard that the books were better and had a more positive ending, but I generally believe that an adaptation of a piece of media should be judged based on its own merits rather than that of what its adapting. Also, while I'm sure production was affected by the pandemic, this seems to have been largely a writing issue which if anything might have been helped by the extra time the lockdowns required of them. Of course we'll probably never know what really went down behind the scenes, but it was probably a lot of factors that worked together to destroy this awesome show. Thanks for watching the video!

After watching this video I'm crying and laughing at the same time haha that ending was so horrible, absurd and even bizarre. I still can't believe it and I already had low expectations. I agree with almost everything you say, although I must say that for me Helene was interesting at the beginning and then she became a joke, just like The Twelve, I couldn't understand how she allowed everything Eve and Villanelle did, I never finished buy her as a villain and it's not an issue with the actress, but with all the terrible writing. And I did enjoy the scenes of Villanelle and Eve together, I loved that kiss, we waited so long! But I admit that at the same time I was very worried because there were only a few minutes left and nothing was really happening with the plot. I also have to say that the whole "reconciliation" between them felt pretty forced, I mean, Eve was rejecting and pushing Villanelle away all season and suddenly in the last episode she realizes that she needs her? Having them separate was understandable before but in the last season it was a crime, there was no justification and it was just tiring to continue with the same old thing. But of course, they gave us a few scenes together and we should be happy, right? 😒 That was so insulting. They didn't want to really explore their relationship and completely wasted the amazing chemistry that Jodie and Sandra have. I only enjoyed their scenes because of their performances, not because the script actually worked, because again, there was no development or progress in their relationship. Weeks passed and I'm still so angry and sad, I never imagined that they could ruin my favorite series so badly 😩😭

Thank you so much, I'm glad you had fun watching it! And Helene definitely dropped off. Its like every good scene with her had to be balanced out with an awkward/emotionless one. Personally, I think I'm going to pretend S4 doesn't exist and end it on S3 in my head so that there's some room for a happy ending through the power of imagination. Thanks again for watching!

It reminded me of the original 'L Word'. Started out great and full of potential and then it slowly fell apart and became a massive FU to the audience at the very end. I'm actually fine with Villanelle dying - she's a murderous psychopath - but at least make it satisfying, like Thelma and Louise. But my god, what they did to Eve's character? Watching S4, I was trying to pinpoint when I stopped like/rooting for her. It was somewhere in S3 but S4 her character was just annoying af. And the imaginary Jesus? That was really the writers being lazy. it was such a s*** show. At least S3 was watchable.

This was an amazing way to sum up S4, your analysis was so great! Kenny and Irina are arguably some of my favourite characters in the whole show (apart from Villanelle and Konstantin), and to see their stories both just either used as a plot device that was never solved even after becoming essentially one of the most crucial plot points of S3 and S4 (Kenny), or just completely forgotten about when they had so much more potential (Irina), just makes me feel so empty about the ending. Both of these characters had so much personality and interesting parts to them and to see them wasted is so disheartening. The ending just felt like a cop-out to get a shock out of the audience. As for Gunn and Pam, I completely agree with you! I loved both of these characters and their scenes were hilarious and/or exciting, but if only they had been introduced earlier like you said, then we may have had more time to explore their characters and scenes without thinking "oh god we have 1 more episode left".

2 Things about who Villanelle has killed. I don't disagree that some were kind of innocent, the nanny maybe. I'd rather say there was a logic to her killed until the preacher father and his daughter. And that, IMO, was all Lauren Neal - season 4's show runner. There is something in Black Panther that annoyed most black people - the "Killmonger murders his girlfriend" scene. We get that he has to take Klaw's body to Wakanda, but why did the writers have him shoot through is girlfriend to do it? Easy. Becauase unless Killmonger did that, he becomes just as much a hero as T'Challa. Because otherwise he was absolutely right. How can this African empire with all this advanced technology stand by and let slavery and colonization happen, then turn around and allow all those decendent to suffer through the white supremacy of various countries? So in order to make KIllmonger the villain they had to have him kill his girlfriend. And burn the flowers. That was the point of Villanelle killing the preacher and the daughter. Until then she's only killed bad people or people who were literally in her way. Villanelle wouldn't just kill for the sake of killing. Or because he failed to do something. Maybe kick their asses, but not kill them. The difference is Villanelle is a highly accomplished assassin. But with the preacher and daughter, she becomes a serial killer - which she was not up until that point. Some might ask, well, what about Bill? Bill was an MI5 officer therefore an enemy combatant. He got to close to Villanelle, so his death had logic. The only death that had no real logic was the preacher and daughter. But in order to make Villanelle an actual monster, Laura Neal had to put that in there. Because if that was how Villanelle was really supposed to be, she would have killed Irina before the 1st season ended. But she didn't because Villanelle is not a serial killer.

She murdered the teacher who had a thing for Eves husband. I don't quite remember the logic for that. I know she said she couldn't kill the husband because Eve wouldn't forgive her. But isn't that teacher helping her by luring away the husband? Which she was pushing her to do earlier. And to add to your point when she kills her mother and some of their family this is supposed to make her more villainous. Sure they sucked but setting them on fire is a little much.

Great analysis, though I think the most consistent and thoughtful ending would have been been a real reflection of Eve's officiating the gay wedding speech (wtf did they do that to us?) and having them be happy together because they're better people for it. It's unfortunate that so much of S4 was spent trying to justify Villanelle's eventual end, and maximum grief for Eve.
@mothanne3172 жыл бұрын
I genuinely don't understand why the gay wedding was part of the episode, especially given what happened like 5 minutes later. It almost seems like they wanted to add a bit of gay representation because they knew that there might be some backlash on how the bridge scene plays into some "bury your gays" tropes, but idk. I just started checking out the show through clips of Eve and Villanelle's dynamic, but even I was flabbergasted by the finale. Like, this is the dumbest thing they could've done.

a year later and i still hate it. i actually gave up hope after the first ten minutes of s4ep1. eve being a "badass" riding a bike, threatening K and then V being a schizo. wtf.

The finale hurt me physically goddamn. I was lost after it ended. Nothing could ever top this show and the end absolutely DID NOT give it justice.

Just overall sad with this ending. I did binge this within like a week and just found out today it won't be continuing so I was already prepared for fuckery but this was just disappointing as hell :/ kinda pointless season as some already have mentioned. This keeps happening to so many series and now I see why many get canceled abruptly. Sometimes it's best to leave things on a great note with little interpretation, sigh.

I had heard about how disappointing the ending of this show was and still wanted to give it a shot because I had heard so many other great things about it...and now I have massive regret. I wasn't expecting both Vilanelle and Eve to make it out of the story alive and well, but they completely botched how they handled Vilanelle's death that it didn't even leave room for any proper payoff. Like you said they had wasted so much time on superfluous nonsense that it left the show with no room to wrap up anything in a remotely satisfying way. This show, the amazing performers and its fans deserved better.

I cope by remembering the season finale cliffhangers where main characters are shot, only to be resurrected and fine by the next season opener. If Killing Eve had a fifth season Villainelle would be scarred but alive.
@SeveralScreamingCats8 ай бұрын
an ending I would've loved was if Villanelle was killed earlier when she was shot, it could've been a perfect way to make Eve a killer, change the title to "Kill/er Eve" by scratching out the ing from Killing and have her hunt down and kill every single member of the Twelve until she finally gets killed by someone and then we see her in the afterlife with Villanelle being happy and free

Honestly I wished I haf never found out that season 3 wasn't the final season... Would be so much happier. Season 4 felt like a big filler as you said...ugh so dissappointing :(

What an immense piece of shit ending to such a great series. The writer or writers that suggested that ending should never work again. The producer or producers who approved of that miserable ending should never work again.

Even the bullets would not go that far under water. I will not even make an effort to consider anything after the 2d cgi blood as something that really happend. Just more likely that they got told not to make a fifth season just before they finished shooting.

The villanelle/jesus storyline was so random! They had never done anthing like that on previous series. I can't understand why they used that concept in the final series. If series 4 was the first series i would have watched, i won't not have continued watching. It was totally naff and disappointing. Didn't enjoy the Pam storyline either. Totally pointless. It was so far from the other series, it was like watching something else entirely! Gutted as I absolutely love jodie comer and sandra oh but the storyline was the pits to put it mildly.

Yeah, most of this season felt like I was just waiting for the action to happen and it never really did. The plot just meandered around until all we were left with was this catastrophe. I think that this was definitely an issue in terms of running and not having a consistent showrunner versus any blight on the actors involved. Thank you for watching!

You have an excellent ability to critique this show. Although I agree, I have decided to love the ending because I’m obsessed with Villanelle and can’t bring myself to say anything negative about it. 😂

I took the whole weird religious bit to be reflective of the psychopathic 'God Complex' mixed with Villanelle trying to understand human emotions that don't come naturally to her. I assumed Carolyn, or at least another familiar character we least suspected (maybe Bill) to be part of The Twelve. I also thought that Killing Eve might be a play on words, with Eve ending up becoming an assassin and, therefore, KILLING Eve, in place of Villanelle. There is so much they could have done with the season finalé, and it's no wonder so many people felt cheated by it. To me, it's still the best thing on TV for a long time, and I continue to rewatch it again and again.
@milu37798 ай бұрын
I actually deleted s4 from my brain, can barely remember a thing. I agree with most of what you said except for your interest in a revelation about The Twelve: they were always meant as a McGuffin, and it is fine and coherent that we never learnt what their deal was imo. They're just the genre-mandated shadowy conspiracy, any reveal would've cheapened the show's self-awareness.

OK, everybody! The show finished in 2022. Has everybody recovered from that? I am here, in Brazil, April 2024, watching “the end”. What was that? That kiss was perfection! but I feel disturbed. Not only because of the way that wonderful character (Villenelle - love the name) died, but also because I thought her redemption through love would be a perfect answer to our times, after the pandemic and with so crazy things happening around. So, Eve will not recover (or reborn, as the writer said)... not from the loss of that kind of unique love in life. Villanelle, wherever she is, must be very angry. Again: WHAT WAS THAT? And thanks for all the actors, Sandra, Jodie, Fiona (great!!), Kim and so on. Thank you very much!!
