I used all weather rat poison blocks crushed up and mixed into steel wool and wall filler to get on top of a rat prob I had in my old house. I had them chewing through the floorboards between the tiles and through the walls. This was the second attempt after I used steel wool without the poison and they had chewed through that. It worked well and the rats quickly turned up dead outside the house.

Pretty much. Rats carry thirty-five zoonotic diseases. _THIRTY-FIVE!_ and who knows how many more that aren't transferrable to humans. They also have no bladder, so they just dribble piss as they walk. That's why rat infestations smell so bad. They will climb up onto pets, livestock, even human babies, and eat them alive and screaming. They have killed my ducks and chickens and attacked my dog. Had it tested, it wasn't rabid, this is just something rats do. So to anyone defending those horrid little beasts, fuck off.

@@emresoylu9661 It does work. We tried all kinds of traps-rats avoided them. Warfarin based poison trays-rats didn't consume them. Finally did some KZbin research on the Baking Soda/Corn Meal/Powdered sugar approach-within 3 days of setting out the paper plates with the mix, no more scratching at night and no more rat turds! You can also use Plaster of Paris instead of baking soda, in fact it's probably a good idea to use both methods. Rats are smart and learn fast to avoid things that are killing other rats. There are plenty of good reviews on this method being effective.

For those going the way of the mouse/rat trap, let a small piece of a Mounds bar dry out (so it solidifies a bit) then superglue the bottom of it to the trigger mechanism. They have to tug a bit (which gets them more engaged) and triggers the trap and, in most cases, the bait remains glued to the trap and used over again).

For me, peanut butter doesn't work too well with baking soda. My rats wont touch it. Some of them, the young ones, have eaten canned deviled ham mixed with baking soda. The deviled ham has such a strong scent I think it masks the baking soda. The rat population decreased but there are still some very clever adult rats who aren't fooled and who avoid it, along with avoiding conventional traps and glue traps. Next I'm going to try high frequency sound at full blast through a guitar amplifier, setting the speakers up against the wall. The worst part of my rat problem are the fleas. They bite me everywhere and it itches like crazy.

You know Glue Traps are marketed as humane. A friend gave me some, I'll never use them again. Way more cruel than a quick kill bar. I had mouse on the glue trap, I killed it quick. But I wanted to test how hard it would be to get it off the trap for release like the package said was possible. It says use oil and to lightly tug off the glue. I know ribs were broken fur ripped out, a long with one of his feet. If this mouse were alive and struggling while I did this, it's heart would give out before he was free. Any that survived would have broken bodies and would be in pure terror. Glue Traps are cruel.
@KYNAEVIL

Thanks for mentioning the glue traps... there isn’t anything humane about them, I agree. I’ve heard about them chewing off limbs to get free of them. Anything that causes prolonged suffering to an animal is cruel, I don’t know how they can make the claims they do on those products.

Hey folks, I just wanted to get back to you on the killing of rats. I know some people who tried this I don't believe that it works very well. I have found a real good poison. It's called ramik. You can buy small packages but since I have two places to care for I buy it in the 4 lb box I believe. It comes in four pieces which have been kind of divided off and scored so you can break it more easily and I just throw it up under my house and behind the cabinets in the workshop and I don't have much of a problem with rats. Since I live out in the woods rats are also trying to eat acorns so I put out water about 30 feet from the house. And then when the rats eat the poison they go looking for water and I have found rats laying around dead at the edge of the yard. And now y'all might not want to read this part that I'm sending to a person or thing who calls itself mini site. It chunked the first Stone so I guess I have to speak what's on my mind. Okay whoever or whatever you are it ain't nice to tell people they're not Christian. You never know when you're doing that to someone who might actually be a better person than you. And God's not real keen on that. In your comment you said you were going to expose me here today, by the way you spelt here as hear, so you might want learn how to spell the different ways of different words. And then you threw the gospels at me. I'm sorry but I don't remember anything in the gospel about killing rats. Have you read any other part of the Bible? Like I said God kill more people than I'll ever kill. Read Genesis, God flooded the whole world. He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone and only save like Lot and his family. Anyway, I'm not going to use some lame social media to discuss the Bible any further than this. And yes whatever you are for my 60 plus years I have been a practicing Christian. I have many faults and need much forgiveness everyday. But I'm not sure even what to call you, but you called me out by my full name. Which is disrespectful. You hide under a moniker, if you don't know what that is Google it. And the picture you show of yourself is that of a blue-skinned red-eyed creature. I've got to admit that's the only time I ever seen me a blue skin red-eyed creature was that of a demon in a horror movie. But alas, I grow tired of slinging mud on social media. Lot of us guys out there all we want to do is to find a better way to kill rats, shoe horses, fix the tractor and such as that. The poison may get rid of the rats or mice but when they are eaten by other animals, and they will be unless you track them down and dispose of the bodies, the poison is in the food chain - If a red tail hawk eats a poisoned rat and feeds some to her young - They will also be poisoned - Rats are smart and not easy to trap -

I made poison for them as well: equal parts of baking soda, sugar and flour. Then I added some molasses and rabbit pellets (we have pet rabbits that attract the rats). I made a TON of this. I found holes and put alot of this stuff in each hole, then covered the hole. I put it everywhere I ever saw a rat peeking at me! I haven't seen ONE rat after the second day. I know I need to keep this up as they come from all over the neighborhood. The rat infestation came when a developer cleared a large plot of land about a mile from here, and built houses. That's where the rats were and they spread all over the surrounding neighborhoods. yay us. : (

1. Are you setting the mix out dry? It's important not to add water or milk to make dough, that reduces the effectiveness of the Baking Soda. 2. Are you using latex or rubber gloves when you prepare the mix? Rats are very cautious and if they smell human scent on the bait they often won't touch it. This method has worked great for us.

I have tried all these. My mice don't like peanut butter. Ate all my baking soda. Ate through the entire orange box. One was living in it when I flung it out the back door. ate through my self rising flour which contains baking powder . They haven't responded to the plaster of paris. They ate the gypsum wall. they ate the cornmeal. They ate the glue traps. I have bald mice Im sure they have left patches of hair on the glue traps. They won't touch the metal traps. won't go into the safe houses. They have stored the rat bait in the spoon drawer. These crafty things must be from the rats of NIHM. They have made it to where I don't want to even go home. Maybe I can put something on my compost pile outside. And if someone tells you to use hot sauce, peppermint or cucumber don't believe them. You are just feeding them. Those don't work. The sound emitting plug ins are just disco music they adjust to. It doesn't even bother my dog. And who said Mothballs work.. They do not. I have burned sulfur, sage, bay leaves... NOthing so far.

To joy bayurtiful: sounds like my nightmare, & I’ve rat proofed my entire home 3 x and hired pro exterminator. You’ve likely got a smart roof rat- I know your pain & frustration. Exterminators refuse by stated contract to kill that smart 1 darn rat & it’s family that learns how to avoid ALL traps, poisons, even free food, by legally using word “control”. It’s why I’m spending time looking at alternate methods. Usu traps with any good bait will get average rat; mice are usu stupid & smartest will go for more elaborate means. Hope you find a way; rats can survive a long time without food & find water in chewing your home’s wood, mineral from wires, & other materials in your home’s structure. Best of luck in getting them.

Baking soda was very effective for me. It's important you use latex gloves when preparing the mix, rats are very attuned to human scent and shy away from it. And set the mix out dry, when you add water or milk to it to make dough-balls, you reduce the effectiveness of the baking powder. The whole idea is to get dry mix into the rats gut and let it start to expand there. We mixed up Baking soda, corn muffin mix and powdered sugar in equal measures and set it out on small paper plates, worked great!

The big problem with this method will be the rat dying is the walls or attic creating a really bad smell, draw flies, etc. Rat poison dehydrates the rat leaving very little odor to no odor. It can can be used safely with pets or small children in the house if used correctly. one method is to throw some of the cubes in the attic. putting a little peanut butter on the cube guarantees the rats or mice will eat it.
@leftmarginnotedpm7062
@leftmarginnotedpm7062 5 жыл бұрын
If the rat died from dehydration, it's dead from lack of water to sustain life, not like when we dehydrate veggies, it has to get to that state thru decomp (still some water in their organs and body, just not enough to keep it alive) meaning it's still going to smell. There's no difference. Second, pets have been known to die from even small amounts of rat poison. And small children getting very sick. Yes, you take extreme care on placement as it CAN effect others.

less doesnt mean zero. and only 1 is needed to kill a family. They can spread disease. They pee on everything and poop a LOT. and you dont need to leave food around. I'm convinced most people who comment like this never lived in the country. Your.home is a home. they will live in your home, then go outside to get snacks or whatever. your home is still shelter. and the better it feels, the more enticing it is to them. And god help you if you actually love animals. which means you dont use pesticides, poisons, or much of any preventive stuff. I love the squirrels, birds, dogs and cats. pigs I have in my yard. zi have a pet lizard and turtle. so I can't use certain pesticides because I fear the bugs may get Into the areas where the lizard and turtle is, and they eat them and die. I grew up in apts and we had mice. But my mom and dad were clean freaks. the mice basically hid in our closet. once every 2wks we'd catch one behind our stove.
