Killing the Ghost in Spelunky!

We found out that entering the lava does 99 damage to the ghost... so I went ahead and killed her! This particular highlight is of the Hell level on which she was killed, only. If you so desire, you can see the entire run including the planning phase on twitch tv, here: / 3311994
Here are the full details of how this came to be, for those who are wondering:
1) Somebody noticed that the ghost appeared to be bleeding while entering the lava on Northernlion's stream.
2) I tested it on my stream, and we were able to confirm that she did indeed appear to bleed while entering the lava.
3) We had somebody bring up cheat engine and confirm that she was taking damage-and to find out how much.
4) It turned out that each time her hitbox was submerged in the lava, it did one instance of 99 damage. That meant that with the ghost's 9999 health, it would take 101 hits for her to die.
5) Within a few minutes of confirming this information, I decided to go for it, and managed to pull it off on the first attempt. A lot could have gone wrong!
The entire run took about an hour, with the actual ghost killing taking between 10 and 15 minutes-much better than the 9999 hits from the alien ship using the previous method.

Interesting, I never thought of the ghost as female but it makes perfect sense and lines up with the Easter egg from flashing the camera on her in Spelunky 2.

I find the HD remake of Spelunky 1 extremely awkward to play and never once encountered a camera _or_ the ghost, the controls and hitboxes were just a whole lot tighter in Classic.

The golden character is part of a DLC pack on the XBLA version called the Explorers Pack. Mods can be used on pc as we'll to change a character completely by using a sprite sheet, which is how each character works.

tinfoil hat theory time: i think this works because of how taking lava damage is compared to other damage types. im fairly confident the enemy object (presumably what the ghost is based off of) has a flag for whether or not to take damage. i think this flag makes the enemy ignore most types of damage, (whip, bullets, etc). however, lava is different. i think lava hurt boxes behave differently, since the player slowly sinks into lava upon death. my guess is that lava hurt boxes deal 99 damage (since this is the max amount of health the game will remember, although it technically goes higher), and then tells the game to use the lava death animation. however, the ghost is different. the ghost most likely has this damage ignoring flag on, so you cant hurt it, but there is most likely no flag to ignore lava damage. the result is that the ghost takes 99 damage everytime it goes in lava. i think this would be the same for olmec, but olmec also dies when he touches lava. maybe someone can check that and see if olmec takes 99 damage upon hitting lava? maybe the alien dudes can hurt olmec? seems interesting

Dion Mose First, You Must Get To Olmec, Then Kill Him At The Right Spot. He Will Drop Down Into Lava. You Can Jump Down With Him And Stand On Top Of Olmec, Then There Will Be A Door (Random Location EVERY Run) That You Can Enter. Be Careful Though, As Lava Men Jump Up From The Lava. Enter The Door And You Will Appear In Hell. The Final Stage Of Spelunky.
