About two years ago, a European organization representing 23 countries on climate change petitioned the UN towards open debate on the issue, no response. Science is a theory, those pushing CO2, and hence man on causing it, can not ignore anomalies that quedtion this conclusion. CO2 is 1/2200 of our atmosphere by concentration, it is not the driver, it is symptom to natural cycles of nature, that are always happening. Over the last two million years, only 40 million found lower lower levels of CO2. Commercial Greenhouses are maintained around 1200 ppm, three times our present atmosphere. Botanists claim since the beginning of the industrial revolution and the burning of added fossil fuels thecearth has greened, plants are more diverse, bigger, with more yield and hardier. Yes, clean the air if it is dirty but the earth is starved of carbon. So, is nature stupid? 1/3 of the CO2 plants thrive on and its going to kill us, if it increases? Use some common sense, clean the oceans, clean the air but leave nature alone. How successful has man ever been when he confronts natural cycles of change Its about blaming humanity, so the elite can gain huge profit and forge political control over humanity itself.

I’d be interested to see his notes. I’m not a fan of Shellenberger as he is commonly shown as being this extremely knowledgeable expert on nuclear energy despite the fact that he himself carries no degree in any field of nuclear science. He commonly exaggerates the field of nuclear energy particularly as it relates to a very very very very specific and specialized nuclear reactor known as a LFTR (Lithium Fluoride Thorium Reactor) and has over exaggerated the simplicity of moving the entire nuclear industry over to utilize thorium as its main feedstock. Just an FYI not only does global nuclear supply of thorium not exist, the extraction of this resource is extremely niche. While the overall reserves are greater than Uranium they exist trapped primarily in monazite deposits which are considered a waste material from silver mining. Effectively to even start his vision requires a ground up rebuilding of the entire nuclear extraction industry before a single nuclear plant is even built. The astronomical requirements of this are typically shrugged as “well figure it out”. That does not inspire confidence. Yes thorium has benefits (not nearly as significant as Shellenberger likes to climate relative to other fertile and fissile materials) and yes a LFTR is a promising nuclear reactor variant. However he apparently did not bother to read Alvin Weinbergs conclusion assessing the MSBRE project at Oak Ridge comparing the MSBRE with uranium 235 cores to Uranium 233 bred cores. Seeing as this dude is effectively the grandfather of the entire field Shellenberger is betting his life on - probably should read up on that……

@@brian2440 I genuinely appreciate your substantial criticism on actual scientific talking points. It's a LOT better than the "trust the science, durrrrr" crowd that won't even trouble themselves with discussion on this topic. I like Shellenberger not because I think he has all the solutions, but because he's taken a fairly honest approach to looking into the unchallengeable and high-political topic to see really what is the problem and what might we do about it. He came out of that realizing that most of the hype is fear-mongering with zero real solutions. We're not getting anywhere if most people only think that deep about this problem.

Tip the scales too much in favour of protecting the environment, you sacrifice more humans, do too little to protect it, you sacrifice more humans. There is an optimum in what we can do, but I seriously doubt that a clinical psychologist is capable of deciding where this balance should be. Also, I looked up Lomborg, he seems to be an optimist, which is fine, but he is not great at what he does. I do however think, that Lomborg wants a serious and sincere open minded debate about climate change and what to do about it. And I wholeheartedly agree with that, because right now there is no consensus whatsoever about what to do, how to do it, and what the possible outcomes will be if we do it. @marcialavine12722 жыл бұрын
I'm glad that you want to "contribute in a productive way" once you begin your career, but I'm more than certain that upon leaving academia (if not before), you will discover that attempts to broach the subject in any way that does not support the approved narrative will not only be unwanted or ignored outright by colleagues, but would soon become problematic if not flatly disastrous to any career aspirations you may have. I can reasonably predict that when it happens, you will either go along to get along, or you will discover you must alter your career trajectory away from where your educational goals currently lead. But I wish you all the best, and do hope that you will indeed find a way to work in your field of choice without sacrificing your intellectual integrity. Too many have had to make that choice already, and we've seen the results as the scientific community as a whole displays the weakening of the necessary tenacity and desire to pursue truth, as instead they seek to prove the predicted outcomes which their financial donors expect them to produce in exchange for their continued support. The erosion of scrupulous adherence to scientific methods and practices necessary for real scientific achievement and advancements have been largely abandoned in favor of peer approval and employment security. And I am saddened by this, as I understand the long-term implications of my observations. I hope you have the fortitude to withstand the pressures instead of the stomach to accept it.

Gaddafi had proposed to build solar panels that were elevated in his desert creating a partial shade he figured he could produce enough electricity to supply quite a lot to Europe and to desalinate a vast amount of seawater to fresh water then under the partial shade he was going to grow crops to feed his people. I have often thought this is the real reason they took him down. There are lots of places in the world to put up solar that is not going to take out farmland. Instead create shaded areas in the desert where things could be grown underneath actually increasing farmable land.

Dear Dr. Peterson, your work has changed my life in a very positive way. I am grateful for that! After I read 12. rules for life, I have enjoyed your content on KZbin increasingly. That started in 2020, at a time when your content was more about the psychology of our personality than about politics. Now, I have to say that I am a little bid sad about the quality of your political content. These are very populistic videos that, from my point of view, tell the audience, what it wants to hear, and that from a doctor, who has proven his intellect several times. I myself have read studies with very contrary numbers and facts. For example the subject of space you would need for all of the renewable energy sources; it depends on the way you calculate the space needed. For example: Some studies calculate the space a windmill needs that it has to be distant to a house, street or another windmill, even though it could also be standing in a cornfield, where it takes almost no space. - Solar panels can be build on roofs. The list goes on…. This is not a way for me to satisfy my moral feeling! In fact it is kind of hard for me, because it has been convenient so far, to just agree with you! I look forward to read more of your work about psychology and personality and I wish you all the best!

As an Australian cattle and sheep farmer I have been watching climate policies in Europe over the last 10-15 years and what they have caused in multiple countries like Germany, Spain the UK, Austria with their power costs and Scandinavian countries with agriculture and industry has been very alarming, and yet they still they head towards financial ruin and social collapse one after another pledge their economic, agricultural and social demise with a smile and a sense of pride. More alarming is the newest government of Australia democratically elected by the people (of course not myself) now adopting and following the exact same policies that will increase costs of living , increase energy prices and taxes on our food system I hold very little hope for the future and the majority of city people who vote for this reality will be first to succumb to a broken economy and social structure, as a farmer I have food stores, water, a means for self defense and of course self reliance.

Higher energy prices from greedy private companies the government lost ownership of due to their privatisation under the liberals and extreme free market tactics when companies sell our gas/energy overseas for a profit, raising the price for the domestic.
