Man... This album was definitely groundbreaking for the early 2000s metalcore 👍 Still wearing my AOJB Tshirt

Not a Metalcore guy, but this song is amazing and the album is in the hall of fame.

This album is so guitar driven. The riffs on this album are amazing. Super nuanced but wickedly heavy.

People fit into KSE Howard club, or KSE Jesse club. I love them both! They are both masters in their own right. This album for Jesse and as daylight dies for Howard are two of my all time favourite albums, the music, the lyrics, the journey they each take you on, similar but different in their own right. I'd recommend a binge of both for a few day/weeks/years/decades😂

I enjoy both Jesse and Howard but as someone who got into KSE early (picked up AOJB on a whim in a 2-for-1 deal, played it all the way through, then put it on a loop because GAWD DAMMMMN) Jesse's vocal tour-de-force on that album was a big part of what I fell in love with. Howard was great in his own way and certainly put a lot of his own elements in his era of KSE, but a lot of that era is dominated with a lot of tracks (many of them standout in their own right) that seem to follow more of a formula established in only one track on AOJB (My Last Serenade) and go less for the transcendental spiritualism infused in Jesse's lyrics for something a little more conventional in terms of writing. It's in no way bad, it's just not what I found so compelling about AOJB. That album is just straight fire, start to finish.

More from this groundbreaking album! This album has that perfect mix of hardcore and death metal. They never hit as hard as they did on this one for me.

When I first heard this back in 2002 I was BLOWN AWAY by the intensity of this track and whole album. Being a vocalist myself Jesse (and Howard) is one of my inspirations. These lyrics and the way they are delivered are held in my heart and being so dearly! I’ve met Jesse a number of times and he is such a cool guy!

I still remember hearing this song for the first time, was in middle school and we had some big boombox speakers and my brother was playing it and I heard it and was like “what is this??” And was my favorite song for a year or so

Alive or just breathing is an awesome album - worth checking out the other songs as there's lots of bangers. Element of one, numbered days, vide infra among others

That entire album is fucking flawless. Probably my most favorite album of all time. Jesse's rage, conviction, and righteousness on this album and earlier stuff is unmatched yet to this day.

You need to check out the song “my last serenade” from this same album! It might be my favourite Killswitch Engage track of all time. Definitely a great song

I couldn't run to (ok, click on) this reaction fast enough. Hands down, my favorite album of theirs. Every song on there is worth a listen. I hope you react to more, just close your eyes, randomly point to a track, and go!

Agreed! Found this album around the same time I found Chimaira's "Impossibility of Reason" and Shadows Fall's "The Art of Balance". A trifecta of awesome!

All Killswitch albums have been pretty solid. I know that people are still salty about Howard being gone but Jesse is still an amazing vocalist. I put them on the same level. Maybe someday we’ll have the duo both being in the band. Live shows would dominate

Nah, this Killswitch at their absolute peak. Howard can't hold a candle to any of this and I really like Howard's stuff.

I got in KSE through Howard as well with the "As Daylight Dies" album. But the more I listened, the more I liked what Jesse brought. Not necessarily better, just different. And when "Disarm the Descent" album came out, it was refreshing to hear a different side of KSE.
