I think it was award for them too. As famous as Joe is, if you notice, he usually shys away from jokes related to race / sex, etc. Like he looks physically uncomfortable/embarrassed. I've seen quite a few guests do this, they either get really akward or walk off stage depending how potentially offensive the jokes get.
