Yes, if you remember the heaven's arena arc, the three disabled nen users got their nen awakened the same way that the bird-ant did: By getting "baptised" (attacked) with nen by someone else. Hell, technically Gon and Killua's nen got awakened the same way too although since Wing was their master, he used a soft nen contact instead of an attack.
