I went to high school with Kim (Brooklyn Tech), Go Engineers! We were in the same home room. I knew Kim had talent back then and I am so proud to have known her then. When she was on Living Color, I did not recognize her as the person I knew because she lost weight. My daughters pointed out to me that Kim was the Kimberly I went to school with from my year book 🤦🏾‍♀️. Kim and I are the same age and our lives when in opposite directions, but I always admired how she kept growing and moving towards her goals. Her life served as an inspiration for me grow and move forward to my goals as well. I made strides a lot later in life by returning to school at 50, but, thank you Kim for your example. Dr. Karen D. I met Ms. Coles at the EssenceFest some years ago. She was her beautiful, friendly, warm energetic self, inspiring all of us to be a part of AARP and get those benefits for 50+ folks! She was as adorable and funny as ever. What a treat it was to meet her. I was alao pleased to watch her work her Magic on one of my other favorite shows, "Frasier". She stole every scene she was in! I often find myself, when referring to "significant others", saying "He wasn't as significant as he THAWT he was!" She is such a joy and Living Single was TOPS...PERIODTTT!

Kim Cole’s was hysterical when she was doing stand up in the 80’s. She should have stuck with it but I understand the desire to be on TV especially doing sketches. If you look at whatever that 1990 cast was, you could probably look and find a bum or two that could have gotten the boot before her. I saw an interview Keenen Ivory did and he said she was let go because she held back too much or something to that effect. Ok…… Well it was his show but even he was outta there by 1992!! Kim Coles did say she was bitter about it and she had every right to be. If she was let go in ‘90, she still had to find a way to pay the bills because Living Single didn’t air until 1993. She said she got the deal for “her own show” a year and a week later. I don’t know what kind of money that paid but if she stayed in California, I’d imagine she would have had to rough it in South Central or Compton. Something like that until the checks came from Living Single.

Whether one likes it or not, nepotism is the way of the world. Irving Azoff used his connections to get his son, Cameron Azoff, a top career with Apple . It happens ALL time. Black women want black men to be a protector and that starts with how they are brothers. Keenen Ivory gave his sister a chance (i.e. an in to Hollywood) that the industry would have never with her African features. But her beauty is not appreciated in a Eurocentric world. Kim Coles is light skinned and can navigate and survive in a world that seeks out her looks and talents. Keenen Ivory is a black man that should exemplified by the black community. What he did with his family makes him king. They don’t ever need to borrow money from him because he put them on to get their own money - to build their own empire. When you see a rich black man with siblings who are not in drugs and who are not problematic but never given that catapulting break, that is not a good black man.

Just like any other job. Ppl in position of power do this all the time. I tried to get a city job but I couldn’t because the HR manager hired her friends and family and put them in positions of authority as well. It’s unfortunate. Now I do think Keenan was slithering his way in to Kim and JLo he just gives me that vibe-he uses is power to do it.
