"Kim" is a prequel to "97 Bonnie and Clyde" which was released two years prior on the Slim Shady LP. The latter song is the one referenced in "Stan" not this song. "Stan" was released on the same album as "Kim", so there's no way the fictional character would know about this song. This is part of what makes it so good - 97 Bonnie and Clyde is about him disposing of Kim's body while talking to his daughter and trying to somewhat hide the fact that he killed Kim. This song takes you along for the ride as it (the murder) happened. The fact that this song was made after the other (in which Kim is already dead) allows fans to make the connection. The ending sequence where you hear a body being drug and then put into a trunk is the beginning sequence of 97 Bonnie and Clyde. This is one of the most well-performed and written songs (despite the content being what it is) of all time.

Wanna know something even more twisted that will change your perception of the song? It's actually a love song. He wrote about it in the book "Angry Blonde." I would try to tell the story but Wikipedia puts it best: "According to the book Angry Blonde, "Kim" was the first official song that Eminem wrote for the Marshall Mathers LP album. He and Kim were not in a relationship at the time when he wrote the song. He was inspired to write a "love song" while out watching a movie. At the time, he was feeling the frustration of breaking up and having a daughter with Kim. He said he really wanted to "pour [his] heart out, but yet, [he] also wanted to scream". When he started writing the song, he thought about tying it into "'97 Bonnie & Clyde", and decided to make "Kim" a prequel to that song. He did the vocals for "Kim" in one take. The mood he wanted to capture was that of an argument that he and she would have had. When Eminem and Kim started talking again, he played this song to her and asked her to tell him what she thought about it. Eminem also said to her: "I know this is a fucked-up song, but it shows how much I care about you. To even think about you this much. To even put you on a song like this". "Kim" was also the only track on the album that Eminem had nothing to do with in terms of production." That's why I was one who preferred u wait bc it is a deeply personal and twisted song. It can change your perception of him (good or bad). Growing up listening to him since the beginning this song made sense bc of our knowledge of his relationship with Kim through his music and news, interviews, etc...so when this song dropped, it was an instant hit with his fans bc they understood why he wrote it. It made it more clear once we discover the story surrounding it. It also gave us a look at how twisted his mind can get. But music is his therapy so this is as far as it goes (minus the fights and arguments). Good reaction. React to No apologies lyric video next!

I’ll start my comment by saying that yes, he has done this live. There also rumours that he invited Kim to a concert, promised he wouldn’t play it, then did specifically for her. Now, just like most reactions, people are pretty off base about what this song actually is. It’s genius. It’s a masterful piece of auditory art. There’s so many levels to what makes this such an intensely good piece of art. For starters, it’s a story in real time. A first person, real time story. Almost like a movie in song form. I could be mistaken, but I don’t know of any other artist that has done this. Most stories in songs are told in past tense. Moving along, the obvious bit...the emotion. There’s isn’t a music artist alive who could put forth this kind of emotion. Quite frankly, I don’t think that there’s many actors capable of emoting on this level, simply because this is Eminem’s story. It’s personal. He didn’t have to do character study or anything like that. This was his real emotion. Now we get into the actual story and progression (Or regression) of his state of mind. As the song goes on, we see his rationality deteriorating from an already violently irrational place. He thinks it makes sense that Kim killed her husband and kid in a fight, then spit her own throat. Any detective who finds three bodies with their throats slit, and no suicide note, isn’t going to assume suicide. The immediate assumption would be triple homicide, likely by the scorned lover who’s relationship with the victim was historically violent and tumultuous. Further proof of just how irrational he’s become, is when he tries to disassociate with the situation, by going back to happy memories...”remember the time we went to Brian’s party?/ and you were like so drunk that you threw up all over Archie?/ More to the seamless ness of the song...it’s almost like you forget that he’s actually rhyming. But he is...very well. Doing what he does best, using clever wording to perfectly suit the moment. Nobody does this better. He finds the most perfect wording to describe something, and somehow makes it all rhyme together. Oh, and let’s not forget that that’s him doing Kim’s voice, as well. Honestly, people hear this song and recoil. But I’ve listened to it at least once a week for the last nearly 20 years. I’m still picking up on things I didn’t notice. It’s such a masterfully crafted piece of music. I understand that the content isn’t for everyone. But as an artist, myself, I can’t help but listen to this in awe, even after nearly 20 years.

This song (track, I agree) is what made me a die-hard fan instantly after spending a year questioning my friends' taste in music. Hated him and hated the boring gimmick I assumed the Slim Shady persona to be... Accidently heard this and (quite embarrassingly to me now) found it to be what gave him depth. I was then able to appreciate his music as passionate, deep. I recall morbidly viewing it as semi-romantic and I cringe to admit that... It was blatantly obvious he was far from over the ex he seemed to so casually insult. This song does not stand the test of time for me, though, as it's not one you revisit often. I was nostalgic and giddy to stumble upon y'alls video! I was singing the cryptic lyrics at first, like riding a bike, easy to remember those raw words... but at the halfway point I found myself unable to remove my thoughts from the terror of domestic violence and I had a messy cry. I struggle to believe I saw even a sliver of poetic beauty in this when my teenage ears listened to it so long ago. I, too, would have selected this for someone to hear to "get" Em, and I can see why so many insisted you guys watch this... until I revisited it just now. I wonder how many people were insisting you check it out based on similar memories of provocative shock. He is undeniably (to me) gifted with his writing but that skill is better showcased through so many other, far better songs/displays of his artistic merit. Perhaps it is necessary to listen to this to see this vital ingredient that made him the artist he is today. I doubt I will ever play it again which is weird as hell to say considering it's literally what made me a fan.

Back in the day, during the heyday of this album and song Em did this song live in concert during the Up and Smoke tour in Detroit where he used a blow-up doll referencing Kim and when she found out to tried to cut her wrist it was all over the news here locally in Detroit back then. But he doesn't do that song in concert anymore. Since then.

She tried to cut her own wrist, back then because of that song but Em is a totally changed person from then much more mature, and of course drug and alcohol free now when he wasn't back then and same with her. Btw one of the best concerts live to see ever was that one especially during that time here in Detroit. The lineup Missy Elliot, Ludicrous, MC Ren, Ice Cube, Eminem, Dr.Dre Snoop Dog. Also D12 (RIP Proof) and Nate Dogg (RIP) Kruppt, Warren G, (Epic Hip Hop Concert at that time.

Hey Guys I am all the way from Cape Town, South Africa and I love your guys' videos. Please react to Bad husband by Eminem ft X Ambassadors. It's kind of an ode to Kim. He does not perform this song live any longer by the way, along with other songs where he had dissed his mother such as cleaning out my closet. Oh, that reminds me it would be lovely to see you guys react to headlights.

He performed this live in Detroit with Kim the crowd and left to cut her wrists…..😮😮😮😮. other songs I associate with this Music Box, Amyityville, and Buffalo Bill would be great songs to listen too.

its one of those songs you either understand the ethos and feeling behind it or you take it at face value. The whole song is a love song told from the perspective of somone who has a attatchment to somone who FEELS betrayed by them but in reality as he points out in the song he cheated first so its not justification to kill her. Its just a pure expression of 'love' for someone the moment they do something to hurt you. As the song progresses he realises what hes doing but doubles down because he is manic and jealous. Also this song along with other songs hes produced that kinda follow the story so Stan and 67' Bonnie n Clyde and also you have my darling which is when hes fighting relapsing and the whole song is a double for kim and drug addiction.

He did perform it live and Kim was in the audience 😔 she says this in an interview. He told her we wouldn’t perform it and he did and she left and got into a car accident.

He had actually sung it live with Kim in the front row.

He did the song at a concert in Detroit that Kim attended. There’s a 20/20 or frontline interview on KZbin with Kim about it. Felt bad for her. Eminem’s mom fostered Kim and that’s how they started dating. Seems like a rough childhood for both them.
