The reason the chorus is repeated is that they are introducing the harmony and the instruments to the track...Sort of a layering and then a delayering once Biggie starts to rap.

Rakim is serious on this because the title says, "I Ain't no Joke. You also have to read the lyrics to catch the wit in his verses.

She definitely tried to kill herself and sued him because of this song. And the trunk things wasn’t a reference to Stan. Kim and Stan are on the same album that came out in 2000. “Stan” and “Kim” actually reference “97 Bonnie and Clyde” from The Slim Shady LP (1999). In 97 Bonnie and Clyde, Eminem takes Hallie with him while he’s disposing Kim’s body. The album cover of The SSLP is then at the beach on a dock, and you can see legs hanging from the side of an open trunk. Kim is basically the prequel to 97 Bonnie and Clyde. The events that led up to her being dead in the trunk of his car.

That's hiphop, real lyricist speak for voiceless, and you can relate to it. No other genre I know can do that. Old country song used to, but now they are just pop songs for me.

I remember when my cousin let me listen to this in his car for the first time he blasted it and I was like wtf, then a couple yrs late I ended up with a libra man just like Em and he kidnapped me and held me in a hotel in Gainesville then was forced to go to anger management by the courts but ended up not completing them and breaking into my mothers house and writing cryptic shit on my mirror in red melted candle wax, and calling me at another guy’s house and threatening to kill us all then the cops were called…and so yeah, time is a flat circle.

15:53 “it’s not your thing.” You guys came up listening to a totally different type of music and now trying to understand a different culture of music. “The Accordion ruined it?“ Even if you don’t understand the lyrics you have to have the ears to know a creative, unique and complex beat.

Thank you for this! The song is a collaboration of ATCQ and the leaders of the new school. In the video, you missed other rappers just bouncing around in the background. Redman, De la Soul, Brand Nubian and others. Plus Spike Lee was jumping around too in the video

I actually disagree with the statement that this isn't a song. I actually think it's one of the best songs ever written BECAUSE it is so polarizing and visceral. His voice acting as Kim, the composition, and the background sound effects all make this song sound like more cinematic than any other song I've ever heard, and I can't imagine how therapeutic it must have been to record it and have it be heard billions of times all around the world. This song would never make it out today
