Great video - just finished your book girl in a band! I loved your book cause I was "a girl in a band" years ago - I was/am bassist and singer - I am 47 now, I've got two wonderful kids and work as a teacher. While reading your book I felt like beeing young again - still having the dream in the ❤ of living in NY as a musician. I once played in CBGBS (in August 2001!) with my girl rock band FESCH - IT WAS JUST GREAT! We loved it! The mockery of Thurston's style is fascinating in the video. It plays like a diss track without referencing him at all in the lyric. Presenting him as a hapless convenience store operator being robbed by his own daughter in service of that shopping list is intense and likely just. The inversion where she's picked by mom and runs away after they sit in silence on the ride home is another thing. It's great storytelling in the video, and one of the best songs released this year.

That's ok just so long as you liked 'Sister' too. My own taste is kind of odd. I really loved 'Experimental Jet Set Trash' and 'A Thousand Leaves'. Maybe not innovative compared to the entirety of the world’s cannon of music but, speaking from 30+ yrs of listening to sonic youth and not being a musician, it’s uniquely different in ways I can’t reference bc I simply don’t have yhe words. Sorry, wish I cld offer more specifics but having read her book, as well, her musical prowess, talent n knowledge is light years away from what I’ve got the capacity for in its structure, composition n everything I know I don’t know but hear it, just the same.
