My brother was diagnosed with colon cancer a little over a year ago. Thank you for showing that this necessary procedure is not a big deal and it can save a life. My brother is in remission now and living his best life. Early detection is the key. 💖

My sister was diagnosed Dec., 2018, after a colonoscopy, had surgery, did pretty good, Sept., 2019 got sick again, another surgery, died Dec, 2019. One year from first diagnosis until death. She did everything they said and still died. I'll never have a colonoscopy.

Seriously, I lost both my mom and dad to colon cancer and have to go in for one of these every two years. Everything about what you portrayed was so true! This is such an important video and you managed to make it funny and entertaining. Colon cancer runs in my family too. I lost my mother to colon cancer. I wish someone had suggested a colonoscopy to her. My cousin who is 57 has stage IV colon cancer. Your aunt was so pretty. I'm very sorry that you lost her so young. In my 20’s, I had to have my first Colonoscopy and the doctor had me break up those “cleanses” throughout the entire day before the procedure and starting on the 3rd round I started throwing it up. Her reaction before starting it was so dead on. However, the medicine did NOT knock me out. They asked if I wanted more anesthesia and I said no. It was so cool to watch it. I vividly remember it.

@@ginabove1701 that's the prep I had for my first one and I'll be doing it again next month. Before my first one I used to love the "cool blue" flavor of Gatorade. Now I can't stand the stuff. This time I'm gonna sacrifice the white Gatorade that is cherry flavored. What bothers me on the miralax prep is the consistency of the liquid after you mix it. I'm gonna use a straw this time so hopefully I won't notice how thick the liquid is.

My daughter has ulcerative Chrons colitis. She was diagnosed with UC at 16 months old..And getting that diagnoses felt like going to hell and back. She started having severe symptoms at 2 months old. And no one would listen as I voices concerns. It was scary..She is 15 now. And we totally empathize with this prep being the absolute worst! Aside from the restrictions on food and beverage, aside from enemas, there was the Citric nitrate she had to chug. It is so disgusting. So I would do it with her. I made a game out of it ,like let's race to see who finishes first. Poor Carly. She would literally be laughing hysterically while crying. Laughing at the faces we couldn't help but make. And crying because it's so bad, hahaha. We stand in solidarity with you Kim

I had my colonoscopy yesterday and they didn't find anything wrong. The prep was hell and so was the doctor's office sending me to the wrong hospital (he works out of 3), so I had to hoof it at 80 mph to get there. They said to go the surgery center and I did, but it was blocked off by sand bags and chains. I went to another entrance and it was locked. Finally, someone came out of the locked entrance, so I used their waiting room phone to call the operator. Someone came to get me. This wouldn't have been too bad except that I'm in a wheelchair and my daughter, who was going to drive me home, just had major surgery. We couldn't keep walking around. I was pissed! Enter Connie. She was a breath of fresh air. African American woman in her 60's came with a wheelchair for my daughter and pushed both of us to where we needed to be. After meeting her, everything went smoothly. This is a good argument for hiring older workers.

I feel for you Kim. I’ve had 2 and they are not fun at all. I agree that the after part is great. (I slept for 7 hours after my first one). My prep was different than yours. I had to dissolve the ‘colon prep’ powder in 64 oz of Gatorade, which tasted awful. I had to drink 8 oz every hour until it was gone. I also had to drink a small bottle of some sort of lemon flavored clear fluid, (can’t remember the name) and some Dulcolax tablets. I was able to have some clear fluids, Sprite, lemon Italian ice (no cherry) and plain yogurt if I wanted. Glad to hear your exam went well. They say that you can find humor in all situations. You proved it in this case. Take care.

I had my first colonoscopy years ago. That prep wasn't too bad. Small amount of liquid to drink. Then a few years later, I was having severe abdominal pain. Admitted to hospital and that prep was a different story. Already in horrible pain, not knowing what from, the prep came in a gallon jug that I had to take over 4 hours. It was like a gallon of the nastiest, saltiest sea water. I gagged and cried but finally got it down and all cleared out. So yep, UC diagnosis. Been in remission for 7 years now with only an occasional flare up. It's can be a scary, debilitating disease.

Yeah the prep can be rough but in the long ago past we used to have a big ass gallon bottle of something that tasted like soapy salty water. My Colitis was in remission but has now returned with a vengeance. And yes, I honestly cannot wait for my colonoscopy to be done cause the pain from the Colitis can be unbearable. So, thank you, Kim, it helps to know I am not the only one going through this.

I'm prepping today for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I was diagnosed with colon cancer a couple of weeks ago and am in the pre-surgery phase of getting a closer look at everything. I am jealous that you got to do it under anesthesia. We are wide awake for the whole thing here in Finland. The upside of that is that I got to see my tumors and know exactly where they are. I'm fairly confident that everything will go well for me. I don't know yet what stage the malignant tumor is, but the doctor seems to think that surgery will fix it all up. I'm not looking forward to the big cleanse that starts in a couple of hours. That really is the worst part of the process, even if I'm awake for the procedure.

Kim, I'm sorry to hear of your aunts passing. I'm also glad you are O.K. & no Cancer was found. How's that scrapbook? LOL! I'm going for my second colonoscopy (the 1st one was mid 40's. Secondone is also early becauseof my Cancer history and my parents) in about 6 weeks. The liquid was O.K. until my 6th gulp. I think I was getting the drive heaves. 🤢🤮 During the procedure I remember coming to a little and mumbling questions. My Dr has a great sense of humor and we traded some puns. I wrote "sunnyside up on myself and when the started the procedure and saw it, they cracked up. I guess I almost rectum.....er, wrecked them.

Kim, as a fellow UC patient in remission (since 1998, like 12 scopes), I use a straw to chug the prep (recommend mixing sweet Sprite with salty prep). Less on the tongue to taste with straw. Prep is the worst. Kudos on sharing your story and being proactive! Also, I've been in remission (from last flare up) for 2+ yrs. I've added Tumeric & green tea extract (both pill form) to my regimen at the rec of my dr's PA. May be working, I used to get yearly flare ups.

Kari Dent True! I also love MRIs. Being asked to lie still, with earplugs and a warm blanket, for 90 mins? Oh, yeah, I can do that any time.

I have a history of polyps going back to age 5. I also have diverticulosis and Barret's esophagus so I have to have rather frequent colonoscopies and endoscopies. The first time they did the procedure together, I suggested there had to be a more convenient route. The doctor became very embarrassed and explained they were done separately. I said OK, just make sure you hose everything off between procedures. Steve Martin and Martin Short schedule their colonoscopies together and Steve Martin hosts a colonoscopy party. I suggested my gastroenterologist add a catering service to his practice.

Small piece of advice. Mix up the "prep juice" and put it in the freezer for a few minutes until it gets a little icy. That really helps to make the "juice" go down easier and it has a tad bit better taste....

I turn 40 in a few months. I start colonoscopies this year. Not looking forward to it. In all the technology we have these days, why can’t bowel prep (and those glucose tests during pregnancy) taste like wine yet!

I feel ya! I've been diagnosed with UC back in 2004.... Regular colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy..... In 2014 I actually was in the hospital for 2 weeks and nearly died from A SEVERE flare up and narrowly avoided emergy colon removal. Good to see someone be so open about it. A lot of people don't know how bad this decease gets!!!

I had a colonoscopy about 8 years ago and they found seven polyps in me! My dad is a colon cancer survivor and I’m extremely high risk and I was supposed to go back every four years for the test but the prep is unbearable! I know I need to. I know what will happen if I don’t. But I’ve already survived cancer once. I couldn’t bare it if they told me I had to fight again! I’m sorry about your aunt Kim. I lost an aunt too and it isn’t easy. You are one tough cookie and I’m thinking I should probably schedule that test cuz if u can handle it, I should be able to as well. Just know when I’m prepping for that procedure, imma make my own video just for you! 😂 I don’t do good with stuff like this and the last one I had, they didn’t give me enough sedation and I woke up right when they “started”! It wasn’t a good moment for me! 😂😂😂😂 but I’ll be fine. Right... 😕
