I've done business in Asia on a daily basis, particularly in China since 1980. Your explanation of North Korea's strategy misses entirely whats happening over there, nice try, but sadly wrong. North Korea is and has been primarily dependent on China since 1950's for their entire existence. Without China's help, North Korea would cease to exist in a matter of months. NK has no energy reserves, no food reserves, limited manufacturing capacity. One small example; 80,000 NK enter China every day to work in factories, 80% of their pay goes to the NK government. Kim's behaviour over the last year has been aimed not at getting any aid from the west or SK, but to get more from China, much more. China's Xi made a deal for that aide when Kim met with him a few weeks ago. However, in order to get it, Kim had to go and make nice with South Korea and begin a process of permanent de-escalation. China, above all else, will not permit a conflict in their hemisphere. China would crush NK and annex it if they got anywhere close to a real conflict. This has nothing to do with the USA or South Korea, it's all about China being able to stabilize the region for trade, nothing else.
@someolddude38586 жыл бұрын
Kim did. The idiot pushed too hard this time and China is reining him in
@Chraan6 жыл бұрын
The RightStuff China warned NK because it went too far everal times, it should have been even on your news. As for the past 40 years, in the past NK helped China a great deal to stabilise economically (remember that it once was the rich Korea), and China always felt indebted since then. They weren't sitting on their asses, but they were supportive. That changed. It's a shame they want to nominate Trump for the Nobel price junk.
@dwu93696 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that when China saw THAAD showing up in SKorea that it was the start of their chickens coming home to roost. I say this because China's toad Jiang Zemin was responsible for getting NKorea's nuclear program started. If China wanted NKorea without nuclear weapons, they would made sure of that long before Xi arrived. But then when Trump came along and started sanctioning Chinese companies doing business with NKorea, suggested that more missile defenses could be on the way completely surrounding both NKorea and China, and suggested that both Japan and SKorea be armed with their own nuclear deterrence, China thought that was the last straw and realized that Kim's nuclear toys had to be put down.

I know right? these US kids like to made up stuff like their local news, because its edgy. Those kids will hide in their bunkers when the war starts until they run out of food supplies and die of starvation.
@larrylucid55026 жыл бұрын
nice try, but sadly wrong. It seems it is you who missed the bigger picture. "in order to get it, Kim HAD TO go and make nice with South Korea" -- 'had to' doesn't fall out of the sky. The US put pressure on China in order to force Kim to fall in line. Trump has been singing this song since before he got elected. The song about China being the key to the problem. Also China doesn't want more US presence in its proximity. Nevertheless, the premise of Kim agonizing its neighbors and the rest of the world (even if only bluffing) is obvious and fits the narrative of this presentation. So get off the high horse ;)

I don't know if this is unrealistic, but my suspicion is that China leaned on him hard to play nice with South Korea. I would imagine that now with the Chinese New Silk Road plan and issues in the South China Sea, they would actually like to see a reunification of the peninsula if only to get the US out of "their" (as they see it) zone of influence. China could then prop up North Korea while also getting a firmer footing with other countries in the region as the US pulls out. Despite it being in US strategic interest to remain in South Korea for the foreseeable future to keep tabs on China, Americans will only hear that the Korean War is finally over and immediately demand to wind down US presence and expenditures in maintaining the South Korean bases and military presence. People will vote in politicians who promise to "bring the troops home" and "spend the money at home". South Korea will lose its strongest backer and be forced to look to China or Japan (both just... tremendous options there) for help. China, having removed the US thorn from their proverbial flipper, will expand to fully envelope trade and foreign policy in East Asia, and as thanks they'll make sure Kim dies fat and happy of old age in his bed. Maybe that's not totally feasible, or it overestimates what China would be willing to do for North Korea, but the entire basis of US bases (couldn't resist) in the peninsula is the Korean War, and a genuine shot at reconciliation would give the US perfect excuse to stop spending money in the region right when the US is on bad footing economically with a president who would love nothing more than to make good on his remarks about spending less money overseas. Whether or not NK has a nuke would be irrelevant, and I'm a little surprised that you didn't mention the collapse of their testing site as contributing to their "halt" of testing.
@calanon5346 жыл бұрын
Spot-on. This, I think, is the real goal of all of this. Kim will get propped up by China, in exchange for getting the United States out of Asia, even if it means liberalization of North Korea and the risk of internal revolt - however small. Remember, the North Korean people are largely brainwashed from birth to see Kim and his family as living gods. If Kim told them that dirt was bread, they'd eat it and compliment the baker. Likewise, if Kim told them that he "won" the Korean War and "defeated" the United States, that would only further cement him as a god-hero in their minds. And, Kim could do all this without significantly changing the day-to-day lives of the average North Korean. Granted, in perhaps 20 years, there's a risk of revolt - and an equal risk that Kim will grow complacent and China can replace him with "their man" (or woman) - but, in the short term, this could be China's way to try and get the United States out of East Asia.
@zacharyhebert64236 жыл бұрын
Michael Wade its not unrealistic, its just more people who can't let trump win, these people are phycopaths
@brotlowskyrgseg10186 жыл бұрын
I think their actual reason is much more simple. The North Koreans simply figured they could take advantage of the current administration with it's decimated diplomatic staff and incompetent leadership. Here's the plan in a nutshell: 1. Conduct way more tests than usual, get everyones attention and make it a constant topic on the news 2. Invite Trump to a summit and raise the prospect of a deal leading to complete de-nuclearisation 3. Make some seemingly big concession right away to hook Trump on the idea that he's already succeeding 4. Wait for the narcicist in chief to jump into the spotlight, prematurely declare victory and take the credit 5. Later only agree to very light restrictions that don't really diminish your nuclear capabilities at all 6. Watch Trump desperately try to oversell the deal in order to save face We are currently well within step 4. The best case scenario for NK would be to dupe Trump into effectively recognising their nuclear weapons programm. The worst case is that Kim only gets his photo-op with the President of the United States, thus giving him and his regime more international legitimacy. Either way it's already a win-win situation for North Korea.

unicockboy go watch some more CNN and listen to Clinton. North Korea isn't starving. That American-made propaganda is exaggerated after the US attacked Korea with all kinds of chemical weapons, leaving their fields poisoned or bad for growing crops. The US caused this themselves, as they also deny the murder of more than 2 million Koreans. The numbers of the starvation afterwards were exaggerated by millions, though it wasnt that little indeed. The followers of Hearst's still go on about this. And also, you call them communist. But communist means literally no economy but distribution of everything, which isnt ongoing there. (there would be no currency). A party can claim to be communist, but that doesnt make them communist.

No, pretty sure their main underground test site was destroyed by the earthquakes caused by the weapons detonated there. Even if one of their centrifuges was destroyed they probably have several.

Wasn't the "earthquake" an actual underground explosion?
@wojtekthebear49586 жыл бұрын
Chinese geologists and earthquake administration confirmed evidence of it: www.msn.com/en-nz/news/world/chinese-geologists-say-north-korea-nuclear-test-site-collapsed-may-explain-end-of-program/ar-AAwmbq6 and nypost.com/2017/09/23/china-says-earthquake-hits-north-korea/. The US and South Korean meteorological agencies also noticed it (in the latter article).

I doubt that was the only one they have, plus they already have a few missiles so there is no need for more, all they need is one nuclear weapon, one of those bombs and WW3 one launch away. That's all he needs
@KyleLi6 жыл бұрын
Yeah thats the thing I'm trying to say, many of their centrifuges were damaged due to nuclear tests which caused an earthquake, and that may be a reason for the sudden "peace", gives them a bit of time and money to reestablish their uranium refinement to get production levels back to refining U235 concentrations to +90%.

Before I watch this video: Kim wanted to make sure he could deter the enemy if they were to attack (by nuking them.), and now that he knows he can, he shifted his focus to diplomacy in order to make sure North Korea stays as North Korea. Basically build a country from outside(Military) in (Civilian). That's my take on it, interrested to see if Poly thinks the same.

Kim isn`t stupid enough to start shit while Trump is in power. 1) Trump is unhinged enough to respond with real military action to the chestbeating. 2) Kim has no interest in seeing globalists in power, who are far more of a threat to him as Trump in the long run. What he is going to do is start shit only once Trump is out of office, and make it look like its because of the weak leadership of Democrats.

I got shocked because i guess it's hard for foreigner to know this political issue rightly , but you already knew exactly. The free is not fot free. This peace would be just kind of fake. If kim jung eun wants more money and needs more money, he will threaten south korea again. This routine has been played 3 times already but most south korean ( Especially young generation ) forgot it. Old generation people know how they will do because they saw in their eyes but young generation didn't. So that's why in south korea elders and old people are more conservative than young people. I hope south korea people don't forget what north korea has done to them before.

@kevinsantos50506 жыл бұрын
Not sure about that, but I think that is the Trump visit to North Korea, right now North Korea needs allies cuz otherwise Trump can come and say we will invade with South Korea support or something stupid like that. So what Kim is doing is actively seeking diplomatic options to have the initiative under the eyes of the world that way USA will need to follow the North Korea terms and not the other way around. And having the orange Buffon which is really easy to manipulate cuz he only cares about his public image he can just take the credit without doing jack shit, probably agreeing to most of the North Korea terms. Also Asia want to get the USA out of the Asia territory so China will probably pay attention to the negotiation and put a pressure to the USA to ensure war tensions doesn't escalate that way with peace between North and South Korea, the USA have no other options than to retreat their troops, Kim will consolidate its power, Asia get USA out of Asia and South Korea keeps doing their own thing without worrying about North Korea, and Trump get his Nobel "peace" prize for doing jack shit and getting the media attention he crave, everybody wins.

Well, probably yes, but not soon. Because politics IS pattern and the thing is that the International Community IS aware of all of this. Polymatter is just explaining something that 100% of everybody that knows geopolitic already realized, even people from US Government or from UN, all of them are aware that the NK is doing that pattern and them will have to do that game because they cannot just "do nothing" or "let's get into the NK and destroy the ditactorship!".
