But yeah, the US government does usually manipulate the mainstream media's reporting of political matters, though usually indirectly. Meanwhile, the New Zealand has much greater official power to meddle and just... Doesn't. Usually, anyway. Though it is a bit amusing that the two main news shows on tv (used to, at least) behave differently based on who was in power. One is state funded, on a state funded channel, so they're always Very careful what they say about the current government. Not to the point of being dishonest, so much as being Very sure of what they're saying and very polite about it, as a rule. No matter which party is currently in power. Meanwhile, the other is owned by, to the best of my knowledge, big business interests. I believe not even (entirely, at least) domestic ones. They cant afford to spin things Too much, people notice when they're too far out of alignment with the other one, but they're Always in favour of the National party (economic right, socially 'less progressive than the other guys') if there's any room to spin things that way. (They also constantly try to spin our MMP parliamentary elections as presidential races between the leaders of Labour and National... Despite the out come of most elections coming down to how many votes the centrist New Zealand First party gets, as coalition governments are pretty much required most of the time under MMP. (And which way NZ first jumps depends partially on how obnoxious the other parties were in the lead up and how cooperative they are in the aftermath. ) But yeah, the contrast between the two news programs with one major party in power vs with the other major party in power is ... Interesting.

There are hundreds of trucks and trains going in and out daily in the China NK boarder. China buys seafood and minerals from NK. And NK literally imports everything from China. So it’s definitely possible for NK to catch COVID-19.

Kim Jong-un was in Shenyang, China, having that procedure. The hospital he was at was near where I worked at the time, and MAN OH MAN what a pain in the ass that security was. Major arteries were cut off even to bus traffic. Took me a couple hours to get to work at get home, a trip that usually took 15-20 minutes. Even had to walk large portions of it.

Looked but didn’t see this comment before I posted same. It’s relatively minor, and sometimes even a tactic in videos to make an error on purpose to get people commenting. But, being up there with AP as a wire service I agree that mispronouncing this particular word decreases credibility ever so slightly. Now, a bigger, more important question to answer is why this dictator remaining alive is seen as the best possible outcome. I have to believe that there’s a small chance someone ever so slightly less tyrannical might inherit power over there and make some small step away from fear-, meth-, and inequality-fueled terrorist dictator rule and towards reconnecting NK to the rest of the world before it’s too late.

Un is like a middle name. The first name “Jung” is a generational name which can be shared by brothers or sisters. My wife is Korean. Her first name shared with her sister and their middle names are unique to the individual.

Many Chinese will refer to close friends or relatives by the second word of their given name (Cong in my case), not sure if any Koreans have the same practice. It's not my middle name, though, that's Nicholas
