@@noobwasnttaken Yeah, and worst part is I asked. Well, at least it didn't take too long for me to satisfy my doubt. That is the problem I'm noticing with Khan Academy now that I'm starting taking classes that are a bit more advanced: He seems to want to keep the lessons short and compact, but sometimes, a long ass lecture is just what we need lol. I guess I should start studying through new sources as well. I don't think I'm going to do LA, DE and MC there... Maybe I'll do the exercises, who knows.

@@Faroshkas agreed. Long lectures are generally better than 9-10 minutes lecture with only one topic and 1 illustration.

unfortunately I dont think its correct to say that an antiderivative's value at some x is always the definite integral from some unknown value to x. Consider f(x) = 2x. No matter what the lower bound is (denoted by a), integral from a to 0 is always negative or 0. x^2 + 5 is an antiderivative of 2x, but it is strictly positive at 0, meaning it cant represent some area from an undefined start point to 0...
@random22453
@random22453 8 ай бұрын
The flaw in this is assuming that, that point is negative. It can very well be positive
@mlgswagman6002
@mlgswagman6002 8 ай бұрын
@@random22453 Do you mind elaborating on what you mean, I'm not sure what you mean by the fact that i assumed "that point is negative"? I never make any assumptions about a specific value of f being negative if that is what you mean. If you are referring to: "Consider f(x) = 2x ... integral from a to 0 is always negative or 0." This is simply a true fact, you can't find an a to make that integral positive (note i am specially talking about integrating x with upper bound 0).

i understand what you mean now. This area definition only works if the antiderivative has the entire real axis as the range. edit: but even then it fails for functions with resitricted domains
@hinata5736
@hinata5736 3 ай бұрын
I don’t really understand your example, but his explanation was indeed incorrect. If you just plug in the upper bound into the integral you get the area from x = 0 to the upper bound. If the upper bound is greater than 0 the value is positive otherwise it’s negative (then you would have to multiply it by -1 to get the real, positive area)

In order to evaluate the definite integral representing the area of y = x² from x = 0.2 to x = 0.6, you need to find the antiderivative of y (this wasn't shown in this video!). However, the antiderivative of y was found to be Y = x³/3, and this was found by using what's called the "reverse power rule". It requires you to add +1 to the exponent of the term and divide the term by that new exponent to find the antiderivative of a polynomial term. Here's how it was applied: y = x² (Antiderivative) Y = [x^(2 + 1)]/(2 + 1) = x³/3 I hope this helps!!
