So glad someone picked up on how much of a music nerd she is. Even outside of her official music, it's interesting to go through her catalog of unreleased tracks she has because you can see the broad range artists she's drawn influence from, and how she used it to shape her sound. Love artists that pay homage to older artists but put their own spin on it. Regardless, she knows her shit and is clearly a workaholic.

Dr Luke drama appart, I honestly think that after the E.P sl*t pop something changed about her music… In the bad way: collaborations and production felt better and more pop vibes and more her with her firsts songs ? Maybe she has been overexposed and started to do more basic or commercial songs. About her album Feed the Beast, it has its bop but to me this project is pretty chaotic and not as personal as her debut singles…

I remember way back when, when people would say her music was crap and complain about her broken English and thick accent (if they weren't leaving cruel comments about her gender). Now people are calling her a skinny legend, the Dr.Luke issue is a hard pill to swallow, but I've literally kept up to date with her progress for over a decade now (just gotta push, push, push, the realisation that I'm getting old- forgive the pun, I couldn't help myself). Hopefully working with Dr.Luke is just a stepping stone and she'll be able to break past it. She has come such a long way, I can't help but feel kind of- what's the word? Endeared? By the fact that she had not only grown so much, but still managed to keep somewhat true to herself (I mean heck, if you look at her genius lyrics video, you can see the girl still does that finger air drum thing when she sings accapella, that's adorable).

I trully think that this thing with Dr Luke is deeper... is almost like she has to deal with him because no one else was giving her opportunities... anyways, just my toughts.

I feel like Luke is partly responsible for the "smart manufactured pop sheen" and I wish I didn't have to give him credit! Ugh! But that was an interesting difference you drew between Kim and Charli. Kim's lyrics remind me of Katy Perry in the way that, when you step back and look at the song, they feel kinda structured and calculated (this is known to be Katy's writing style). It's pop gold, but I prefer Charli's writing style because it feels organic and so it's easier for me to get into (??), like it's easier to get lost in the 'sonic world' if that makes sense. I wonder how they'd write together UGH the power that would have! A Charli x Noonie x Kim x SOPHIE joint album would probably send the gays into comatose
@pisces62204 жыл бұрын
Isaiah I don’t think so. Producers like Max Martin and Richard X have produced fairly intriguing and amazing Pop music that have made such an impact probably better than was Luke could do now. Martin in particular was someone who worked with Robyn, who would ultimately go Indie and release an amazing album like Body Talk. In fact Robyn is to many the blue print for modern pop, as Charli sites her as a major influence.

I don’t like her involving with Dr Luke, I don’t like the dude, but he is hell of a producer. I love his works, he literally has made the best songs and biggest hits in pop music from this century so far. And I love how he makes her music sound so nostalgic, giving her a similar vibe to Katy Perry’s old songs (which makes sense bc he produced those too). So even if I don’t like her engaging with him, I’m afraid that if she finds another producer she will lose this sound in her music. Ps: I hope she releases Choker and Push Push Push... pure gems
@ShawtyLovesGod5 жыл бұрын
This comment is very level headed which I like. At least your still open to listening (Luke is behind massive hits as you said so when people stream he is still getting coin). And you’re right, he is a pop mastermind and you can tell he’s behind her work because it’s top quality pop music. She also works with Cirkut and Aaron Joseph who are both under Luke’s wing (so if y’all like Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max just know Cirkut produced it and Cirkut continues to work with Luke) so they know how to produce that glossy pop sound. Luke is innocent by law anyways, so people need to move on.
@noregrets61515 жыл бұрын
With her new album she really lost that "something" she had, i don't really think she sounded well because of dr luke, of course that we can't deny that the tracks are very well produced but it's mostly her and her passion that made the songs THAT good, dr luke has collaborated with a lot of artists that i don't like but she is so good. In her new work she is still working with dr luke but she doesn't sound like she used to, there you can see that even if dr luke produces her songs, if she wants to sound differently, she will.

ABout the drluke controversy: I’m a huge kesha fan but I’m also a huge Michael Jackson fan so I find difgiculto to draw the line on what to believe/support regarding these conflictive situations. I rather just wait for justice or to read a lot before judging. Drluke still does amazing songs. The explosion in the last can’t do better minute, the adlibs during heart to break.., you know katy perry and kesha style totally. Either Kim petras or luke are trying to imitate those bits don’t you think?
@EljohnMacaranas5 жыл бұрын
Agreed on the Katy Perry similarities. Hot N Cold is the prototypical Kim song in some aspects, there’s a familiarity and adherence to a common structure that predates that song. I only mention it bc it really exemplifies Katy-Luke collabs. Honestly, the only reason why I’m so apt to really side with Ke$ha is that she literally gained /nothing/ from the whole ordeal. If she was lying, she would have lost out on so many years to break out, continue making hits, etc.

There’s not excuses of her working with dr luke but with that being said, I think that she’s a victim in the situation as well, I’m not in any way comparing her situation to others who have been abused by dr luke, but I think, like you said, it’s clear she wants to make a big impact in the pop scene, and initially before his scandal blew up she thought working with him would be her best bet to mainstream success, and then things with him took and a turn, and it’s clear that it isn’t the easiest thing to get out of working/being associated with him considering Kesha still has to associate with him as well, I think the mass amount of single releases could’ve also had to do with that, as a way to get out of a contract quicker.

i like when she said in an interview “i don’t believe in guilty pleasures. i love pop music and i’m not ashamed about it.” i think that’s so admirable. a lot of artists are so focused on not being a “pop” artist and being different. kim is a pop artist and she’s not ashamed about it and doesn’t try to hide it. a lot of artists seem to think that if they’re labeled as pop artists, then that somehow decreases the value of their work which isn’t true. kim embraces pop music and makes it her own and i think that’s what makes her so special.

it sucks that Kim Petras seems to be on the chopping block for working with Dr. Luke but Doja Cat doesn't get nearly the same amount of backlash even though she works with him as well. It just seems like the media is putting this red flag on Kim because shes trans.
@EljohnMacaranas3 жыл бұрын
It’s a very complicated issue that really circles down to the hypocrisy of the tastemakers. I enjoy Kim and Doja’s work while acknowledging how bad it is to work with Luke who seems to be riding his Say So success back into the graces of the younger generation who don’t know what he did to Kesha. We don’t know contracts or the business details but I’d be more inclined to believe Doja is in a position to leave to Luke but elects not to (“Best Friends” and likely Planet Her’s production credits.) Both artists in some sense needed Luke for exposure but both haven’t left after having some breakout moments though Doja would find support, new management and champions should she try to leave him. Support Kim wouldn’t have. It’s tricky.

GARYDOS thank you! People are ignoring so many facts of the case and just siding with Kesha and hating on Kim. It’s so dumb.

i like when she said in an interview “i don’t believe in guilty pleasures. i love pop music and i’m not ashamed about it.” i think that’s so admirable. a lot of artists are so focused on not being a “pop” artist and being different. kim is a pop artist and she’s not ashamed about it and doesn’t try to hide it. a lot of artists seem to think that if they’re labeled as pop artists, then that somehow decreases the value of their work which isn’t true. kim embraces pop music and makes it her own and i think that’s what makes her so special.

Pop literally is a universal genre that’s a language for people. I think the whole “authenticity” debate that started some time in the middle of the 2010’s where artists got obsessed with proving they could play instruments or could do minimalism did irreparable damage to the genre. Especially when pop powerhouses fell for the trap and made their own “authentic” albums which underperformed but earned them cred. What I like about this generation of pop upstarts (Kim, Rina, Charli, PC music crowd) is their honest reverence for the genre and the history behind it.
