Every human deserves protection under their country’s laws - even when that law is forgotten or ignored. Sharing three cases from her international legal practice, Kimberley Motley, an American litigator practicing in Afghanistan and elsewhere, shows how a country’s own laws can bring both justice and “justness”: using the law for its intended purpose, to protect.

The fact that she, as an American female lawyer, who is willing to go practice human rights work in a place like Afghanistan is extremely admirable. The approach she took, to use the actual law language to protect her clients is an outstanding way to go, because that is probably the only way you can make sounding arguments. I say bravo to her and her hard work! For those who is arguing that legality and morality are not the same thing, what is wrong with protecting morality with legal language and clauses? She is doing exactly that and it's working beautifully. Of course you can use it against morality but that's not the point here.

I love the courage she has to help people. Fighting a tradition is so much harder than fighting a law. To think, an honest lawyer who really cares about the outcome of the people she is defending instead of the outcome of her pockets. I love it.

While most people are so busy in their bubbles chasing success in the legal field, seeking internships and opportunities in "Big Law", this lady goes all the way to Afghanistan. She thought out of the box and followed up on it. Man, this is really inspiring, and a reminder for me to use the legal knowledge I have learnt in the right way, not simply to serve rich corporations. That's what I had always wanted to do as a child but somehow forgot along the way due to various social pressures.

Education often turns into indoctrination. People know cigarettes are bad they still choose to smoke them. No smoker thinks smoking is healthy. We dont need to be taught in school that earth is round we learn it from society. The same thing goes for dangers of smoking. Education is important but we dont need free education.

"The laws are ours". therefore our laws should be changed in a way that they allow a fair and social world. Our monetary and economy system based on law is unjust in it self. If we accept that corporations have a social responsibility as a moral entity in the moral community, then it should be easy to go the necessary steps to make the world a better place for all of us. What she is doing is great and honorable but we could do way better.

What if people took things upon themselves? Many people whine about the governments ineptitude yet do nothing themselves... but complain. Question everything. We, society, created the state. How can it be changed to work in today's times? I don't think we need more laws. We need to rethink how we 'govern' ourselves. Inspire through education, not deter through fear of the state. Ever ponder anarchy? Ever question chaos and it's strange attractors? Ever see Twitch plays Pokemon? What is too radical for thought?
