I am SO excited to show you the VERY FIRST Kimbo camper ever produced! There are only 4 on the road at the time of this video being posted, so this is an exclusive look at someone who is actually living full time out of their Kimbo. This is the lightest hard sided truck camper that I have ever seen, and feels huge inside compared to its outside footprint. I hope you enjoy taking a quick peak inside, and comment below what you think!

Lightweight, durable, long lasting, and less maintenance are important qualities. Kimbo does a nice job on all those points. I want a camper that I can customize and keep forever. I bulletproofed my Lance 835 so at 60 years old it may last the rest of my life, but if not, I would consider a Kimbo. Thx for sharing. Happy camping

The build may fail but this is made way better than most campers you're pricing this against. Tons of campers with wood or wood products in them fill with a little moisture then that causes more leaks to happen. This camper may not be water tight forever but you can just fix the seal and dry it out. If wood built campers get water in them, it rots then you have too scoop all that out and rebuild.

I just checked out the Kimbo yesterday. They are super cool inside and out. I'm deciding between the 4 wheel pop up camper or the kimbo. They are coming out with a 8 foot bed this summer. Yes it cost more then others but the craftsmanship Is superior to most of the campers I've looked at.
@Down2Mob
@Down2Mob 5 жыл бұрын
Very cool Patricia! I would say if you dont need the clearance of the pop up, go with the kimbo! And in the same sense if you want to really push it offroad and have the truck in some precarious situations, I'd go with the pop up. I'm excited to see the 8 foot bed when it comes out. And as far as price, I'm not sure why anyone would think 23k is a lot of money for a brand new, hard sided camper. Especially one built almost entirely from aluminum. I think $23k is a steal of a deal.

One of the reasons I'm not crazy about the 4 wheel camper is the lack of insulation in the soft side that leads to significant condensation issues, especially when you camp in colder climates. This hard side camper would solve this but I'd be curious what is the insulation they use? What is the R-value of the walls? Pick up campers aren't stealth enough for me but this is a cool design!
@Down2Mob
@Down2Mob 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct, I have a pop up and it does get some condensation. But i was just camping in some snow for a week and it honestly held the heat in very well for a soft side. Hard side will always win though for insulation! That's a good question, I'm not sure what the R value is but I'd like to find out! they use some pretty good closed cell phone in between the aluminum panels

The problem I see is the heater is mounted too high. I found out in my trailer that putting a heater on the table was convenient and out of the way, but it doesn't get warm below it. You'd think as the air warmed up it would heat up the air lower as more air was heated, but not in my experience, in a 17 foot trailer. Other than that, what a cool lightweight camper!

if this was more in the $10,000 range i might consider it. however, a 4 wheel camper is just as spacious, well insulated, made with better materials, better looking, has a much more ergonomic layout, AND starts around the same price...this aluminum shack is not worth 25k. imagine - it is a cold and rainy day. the sound of the rain is deafening and the stove is causing condensation which is adhering to the "suede" liner inside. all in the name of saving weight, i guess. maybe there is a reason why they have only sold 4 😂

Nice for parking lot or rv camping not really an overland setup. I’m riding on 35’s I’m guessing the roof can take a beating from branches. What the weight like super top heavy can’t go taking it out on hard trails.

I think with a lot of planning and revisions and using light materials you could make a camper yourself for way cheaper. It’s the weight that is the biggest obstacle. Building out of solid wood weighs it down fiberglass sane. Plastics are the way to go these days problem is not having access to the materials a lot of that has to be autocad and sent out to be made so no room for screw up and most of us are not engineers. I determined one day to make my own camper for my Tacoma

We went to the Houston RV show last month specifically to check out truck campers. Not only were there none to be found, but when asking around about them, sales associates would look at me like a pariah. Have they fallen so far off the radar that they aren't even welcome at an RV show, or are they not considered RVs? What's the deal?

Super dope. Bring down the price of the bare shell and you guys will become the next Airstream. You'll see them everywhere. Make a killing. Anyone think there gonna go for this?
@Down2Mob
@Down2Mob 5 жыл бұрын
Right? I love them. But idk if they could make a killing if they brought down the price, I think it's already a very modest price point. They do remind me of an airstream though

Hi and a good Saturday to you and I like your set up and did not mean for you to take it the wrong way. My reason for building a camper onto the truck is so that I could have a pass thru from cab to camper like a class B camper van would be. I work as a building contractor and have a good shop set up to fabricate it . And the cost, And Im not worried about the time. @@Down2Mob

@@hldye7442 Absolutely buddy. Then we could sell em. You in? I'm kidding ofcourse. You could just design it and pay a welder to weld it up (if you couldn't weld) and it would still be cheaper then this.

This build is very under welming compared to some of the other builds on your channel, and the price seems very high.. hopefully as Kimbo continues doing their builds they find ways to bring their prices down and make their builds a little more... refined.

For about $350 you can purchase a used aluminum john boat and flip it upside down on top of your truck and viola, instant kimbo. $20k is a lot of cheddar for a tiny camper with a "mud room". Seriously though, it looks well built but a bit austere especially where the ladies may be concerned.
