"Old one is" 10-6-4-3-2-1. This one used in 2007 was 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. (It's a bit controversial if 2 points is enough in between winner and the 2nd) :-) I think that 8 point scorers is a max. You shouldn't score a point from 10th place...

ITV should've renamed it's coverage to "The Lewis Hamilton Championship". seeing this video again reminds me of what an atrocious commentator james allen was. it would be perfectly fine to have clearly biased commentators who provide coverage exclusively for their own country, but not on those who commentate on fucking world feeds. it was hilarious how allen kept making excuses for hamilton, and when brundle sets him straight by telling him kimi won the most races despite his car being the most unreliable, i can hear allen saying "STFU martin" in his mind.
@anthonyiuculano60029 жыл бұрын
Mark FormulaRacer I agree, the ITV coverage that was broadcast here in Canada was a complete disgrace. I'm sure you've watched the race, so I'm sure you'd know how many times they were openly hoping Alonso would pull off to let Hamilton win it, the same ones who chastised Ferrari for doing it in 2010. The fact is, Kimi drove amazingly, the Ferrari team had amazing reliability and nobody deserved to win it more after coming through from third in the standings.
@Balnazzardi9 жыл бұрын
+Mark FormulaRacer Ye, I mean ofcourse most commentators are bit biased towards their own countrymen, but for example here in Finland the commentators NEVER question the championship winner, in the end the one who collects most points deserve to be the champion....that doesnt mean that Hamilton for example would have not been deserving of winning the championship, but in the end only one can win it, and as professional commentator, you just have to be able to accept it and hide the bias as well as you can. Its totally fine to show emotion when your countryman wins, but also at moments of defeat you should be able to show bit more respect to the winner and here James Allen sounds so very bitter, questioning whether Kimi is worthy champion.
@Mformularacer9 жыл бұрын
+Balnazzardi - thats good on the finnish commentators, but as i said, biased commentary is not a problem if it's only broadcast domestically. itv though broadcasted around the world, there were plenty of non-brits who dont give a fuck about lewis hamilton yet had to put up with james allen. the coverage i get currently where i am is BBCs (canadian here) and they have really annoying ads, at times i get fed up and just watch sky;s. it;s really sad though that sky provides the best coverage nowadays because their bias is worse than itvs- david croft in particular is unbearable. ben edwards from the bbc on the other hand is a brilliant commentator - shows no bias towards any particular driver, gives credit where its due, is enthusiastic, etc. he just loves the sport for what it is. bonus points for not getting butthurt when lewis hamilton loses.
@murphymoerf8 жыл бұрын
+Mark FormulaRacer I bet it's still better than RTL's coverage here in Germany. Jesus Christ, even with Nico Rosberg (a German driver in a German team) winning four races in a row it's still all about Vettel. Honestly, you can take a shot of any alcoholic beverage each time Vettel's name is mentioned and you'd be drunk by the first round of pit stops. I remember a specific incident during the German GP in 2012 where Kimi, Perez & Kobayashi had an amazing three-way battle for several laps and all the commentator could take about was how Vettel was close to being in the DRS window of Button or Alonso or whoever was ahead of him. It's so bad I sometimes turn the audio off...
@Mformularacer8 жыл бұрын
***** - well rosberg is not exactly german. he's more finnish than german imo, and speaks a multitude of other languages as well. 2010-2013 i'm sure was the vettel show for RTL. they did the same thing with schumacher from 2000-2004. also, i heard germany has been losing interest in formula 1 in recent times ?

Exactly my point. In McLaren, he was consistently in the spotlight as an incredibly fast driver. In 2007, he got off to a strong start but was out driven by Massa and the 2 McLarens. In 2008, he was yet again he was outshone by Massa and Hamilton. He was such an imposing driver on the grid when he was driving a silver car, but you just never got the same feeling when he drove the Ferrari. As you say, on SOME occasions he was great, but he was always on the sharp end with McLaren.
@theirondukew.852211 жыл бұрын
Well said. Variation is good for any sport and for Formula 1 in particular. A season with many different winners is also good because the champion ends up being it in a field with tight competition. People in general that don't know anything about F1 often say:"It's just the same team winning all the time." As for Red Bull. All respect to them. They are winning in an era with tough competition from well respected teams and a couple of really good ones becoming better and better (Mercedes).

+Kendra Hamilton That's the right kind of spirit I would wish to see more from the fans =) I mean I understand that you dont need to like every other driver, but sometimes the hate and booing that you hear for some drivers (like in case of Vettel or Rosberg in some races you could hear the crowd booing during podium ceremony), or like how Kimi has received quite a bit of trash talk because of his results during these last two seasons....I mean its a different thing to question whether he deserves to be in F1 anymore, and different thing to utterly bash the guy. So ye, glad to see there are some bit more mature fans as well =)
@sebastianschuh68088 жыл бұрын
+Balnazzardi I agree ... I do not like the stupid I love / I hate this and that driver game, also ... BUT for me as Ferrari (mainly cheered for teams not for drivers all the years) fan you start to "hate" drivers / teams, because of the German TV commentators. To listen to the German commentors if you are not always and ever cheering to the Germans as a German makes you sick every single race - every single second of F1, GT and MotoGP races ... concerning sports German are still very national. (In Motorsports) For teams / manufacturers even more compared to drivers. F.ex. I liked Hamilton when he drove in GP2, already (and "nobody" knee him) ... but now - the German commentors / press "make" to "hate" every single littel success he has with Mercedes ...

2005-2010 was such a good era for F1. We had championship battles, constructor battles almost every year with 5 new world champions in 6 years and some championships going down to the wire with last races being the deciding one. It all went downhill from 2011.

This was perhaps one of the most entertaining Formula 1 seasons with a 3-horse race for the championship despite all the controversy and chaos off the grid. And its always nice to see 2 teams fighting away with two cars of different driving characteristics. The Mclaren MP4-22 from the start had amazing mechanical grip, more power and better straight line speed. Which was why we saw it significantly dominated races like monaco, canada, monza and pretty much most races. While the Ferrari F2007 had a slightly better aero package, a longer wheelbase and was much kinder to its tyres all year. As the season, went on they were constantly developing the aero package of the car. Which was why it managed to dominate most races in the 2nd half of the season like Magny-cours, Silverstone, Spa and Interlagos.

Alonso is a tougher fighter than Kimi... He really manages to squeeze from that snail much much more that it could give him! Kimi is a good driver and he was World Champion in a very difficult and close season, but Nando is far better than him when it comes to struggle with a weak car. Surely the team is working hard and their effort comes out now and then, but it will be necessary a lot of time and changes among technicians, engineers and designers to get back to the old greatness. I wanna hope they have started with Mattiacci, but it's gonna be a very long and slow process anyway and it's highly probable that nor Alonso nor Räikkönen will have the time to take advantage of it. But real Ferrari fans support the Team, no matter who the drivers are, and we've learnt over the years the meaning of the word PATIENCE... We know how to stay strong and wait...
@onetwoeightcommodore555510 жыл бұрын
0809AriAri "but Nando is far better than him when it comes to struggle with a weak car." That may be true but you conveniently ignore some facts: First of all the car doesn't suit Kimi's style of driving at all and it was developed for Alonso in mind. On top of that Ferrari currently struggles to set the car up to his liking and admit to having problems themselves, much to their chagrin. Second of all Kimi doesn't race for points but races to win. He's not the kind of driver who wants a 5'th place if he 6'th, especially not when he's not in contention for the title. Everybody knows either Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton will be world champion this year. Their fight for the title will be remembered. One of the Red Bull driver's will most likely be third, right now Daniel Ricciardo has won two races, so people will remember him. Who remembers Prost's valiant and professional drive in Ferrari 1991? He finished on the podium 5 times that season and had 3 front row starts. Despite this he was a distant 5'th in the standings. Prost was already a 3 time world champion and the most successful driver in the history of F1 at that time. An even better example: Gilles Villeneuve was probably the best racer ever and he truly could make a dreadful car appear decent and competitive. Alan Jones (1980 champion) said that he was amazed how Villeneuve never gave up even if that car was crap and he had no chance in winning the race. Villeneuve did a lot better than Scheckter in the horrible 1980 Ferrari. He even led a race for a single lap. Had not Villeneuve been a Ferrari driver I doubt many would have noticed him, he ended the season a distant 14'th. Kimi sees no reason to race the wheels of a car he cannot win in, or challenge the dominance of the Mercedes cars, or even the Red Bulls. Least of all in a car that doesn't suit him. So he waits for the team to provide him with a car suiting his style of driving or a competitive one. Alonso's efforts are pretty much for nought once the season is over. He sure hasn't improved the car over the four seasons he drove for Ferrari. And if it isn't his fault then it's Ferrari's and he's wasting his time there waiting for them to improve. When it comes to pure speed I think Kimi has the edge. 40 fastest laps says so. Only Schumacher and Prost have more. Speaking of Prost he managed 41 fastest laps in 202 races. Kimi 40 in 204 races. Not too shabby, right? To put it in perspective with the present day drivers, Kimi's average of 19,6% beats Vettel's 17,5% (23 in 131 races), Hamilton's 11,4% and Alonso's 9,2% (21 in 228 races). Kimi's 4 wins in Spa is also hard to overlook or trivialize. Hamilton robbed him of 5 wins in a row in 2008 with his illegal overtaking, which cost him dearly after the race. Only Schumacher and Senna have more win in Spa, 6 and 5. As for Ferrari, I know their fans have patience. They waited for 21 years to have another drivers' world champion when Schumacer finally won in 2000 after Scheckter's title in 1979. So they'd best be prepared to wait for maybe a bit longer than the 7 years they've waited so far. Even Kimi's title was lucky, since Hamilton shot himself in the foot two races in a row. Since Kimi have had plenty of bad luck before it was only fair he had some good luck coming his way for once. If I were Ferrari I'd try to find a young, fresh, promising driver. Neither Alonso nor Kimi are at the stage they feel they have prove themselves anymore. It will be Ferrari's fault, not theirs if they don't challenge for either title.
