Because they get better with age, like good wine! And this version at the RAH is absolutely magical, thanks to the quartet, flute and french horn, who were all great values and made it even more perfect than it was already.

Marillion is such an undervalued band. This is a great song.

Easter is indeed a kind of ode to Ireland. This song is from the album Seasons End (1989), the first album with this singer after Fish, the previous singer, left the band. The guitarist is known for his great guitar solos, just like Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. The band made a lot of good and beautiful songs, too many to mention, but try Neverland ..., great guitar and vocals!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/omSxmYGwbpJ4haM

Marillion are a top progressive rock band. English. Pioneers of fan funded albums early this century. Household name in the UK in the eighties and have maintained a loyal fan base. Supported Rush, deep purple, dream theater and Queen over the years. Latest album Fear was a success in the UK commercially. You might enjoy Gaza live or Neverland. They have no link to Ireland nor do they usually play with the string quartet. The guitarist is amazing. Fans of the original line can get a little agitated at times, could be the reason for no comments.

Marillion is one of my favourite bands. After Genesis and Pink Floyd. They began in 1982 with Script for a Jester's tear (very prog Genesis oriented), with their first singer Fish. LOVE THEM so much. Steve Hogarth the singer on this one replace Fish in 1989 on the album Season's end, which this marvelous song Easter (about Ireland) is from. Try "The space" from the same venue and the same album, you'll be thrilled. Try anything from Marillion, it's all gold for ears man. Steve Rothery is a killer guitar player and Steve Hogarth has a voice of an angel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ7ChZZ3dt6GmMU

Someday you should take the same journey into Marillion than you took through Genesis. They really deserve it.

Here Ryan, in Marillion you have the "successors" of Genesis, formed in the late 1970s, bringing prog rock into the 1980s and further on; first with the fantastic singer "Fish", then with Steve Hogarth on vocals after Fish left. Hogarth is also a great singer/performer and is still with the band, as in this performance. You should definately check out more from Marillion, great band. Suggestions to start with (songs) - Forgotten Sons - Fugazi - Hotel Hobbies/Warm Wet Circles/That Time of the Night - The Space - The Invisible Man - Neverland 😎👍

This is a song about the war in Northern Ireland between the Irish Republican Army and the English. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people were killed. It was before your time, but not mine, although it is very much referenced in the TV series "Sons of Anarchy". Marillion is the best band in the world. Easter is indeed, a "nice song", but they've produced dozens of better ones, mostly in the "Hogarth era" starting in 1989.

Pete Trewavas, the bassist, is also a member of Transatlantic (with Neal Morse, Roine Stolt, and Mike Portnoy). Another band worth checking out.

They're a fascinating band. Started off as a bit of a Genesis rip-off but when Steve Hackett's drummer joined they made a giant leap in their production and sound. They became very much their own thing but you could always spot a bit of Genesis in there somewhere. The singer here is Irish and the song is about "the troubles" but they don't usually have the Irish sound. It's a bit of a Peter v Phil thing about their singers Fish and Steve Hogarth, I love them both for different reasons. Marillion sound different depending on where you dip into their catalogue, fortunately they're so consistently good and sincere that you're going to find a treat.

@@jeffchristie1541 I've been a Marrilion fan since before they had a record out, how did I end up with that belief? I have a dim memory of him saying he was Irish from when Easter was released, maybe he was saying he was of Irish descent. Never the less, thanks for putting me right.

@@direnova6284 he probably is of Irish decent it's funny as sometimes when he sings I can hear that Irish brogue but he's definitely of Cumbrian stock.

Listening to this as an intro to Marillion is like listening to Land of Confusion as an intro to Genesis. You REALLY need to listen to Script From A Jester’s Tear or Misplaced Childhood.
