Kim, welcome back. Missed watching your creative juices come through your woodturnings. This piece you did is really beautiful and might even be something I think about for my wife and have you do maybe with some resin and a powder inside. I have an idea for your logo, instead of having to burn it in. Try using the coins that Doug from Pohlbarnproductions uses. He usually adds paint to make it stand out. Hope it helps. Again, I love the piece. ❤❤❤
@gregj26474 ай бұрын
Nice job. I’ve made salt cellars before but never thought of using a brass rod. I rough turn the sides and lid then install the magnets, remount both pieces on the lathe together and do the final turning. That way everything lines up.

Great to see you back turning again❤ The logo iron, it could possibly be that the iron isn’t getting as hot as it needs to for some woods. For example it may burn better in softer type woods and it so much in harder. If so then may be it’s as simple as that you need to hold it for a lot longer and with more pressure in the harder woods. Just a thought. In any case.. As I said, it is great to see you back turning and getting joy from again..

Kim, four thoughts. 1) Welcome back. You have been missed by a lot of people. 2) Ignore comments by twits. I have taken woodturning classes all over the country and have yet heard an instructor say “OK children, don’t forget to take you wedding rings and wrist watches off”. 2) A really good way to line up the hole for the magnet is to use the circle center finder attachment on your tri-square. Center it over the hole for the hinge pin and it will line up exactly on the other side of the lid. 4) I would not use CA for the magnets unless you scuff them and then you run the risk of scuff right through the very thin chrome plating. I find epoxy works very well on them.

Hey Kim, I know you are a pro at this but I have a little trick that I use to burn my brand. I chuck my brand from my center stop and then get close to the part and lock it in. that way I can dial in the pressure for an even burn imprint. As always, I love the work that you do and get inspired to turn again. It's been to long since my last piece. Thank you for the video. I'm happy that you and your family finally have the house and property build and all that going in the right direction.

Good to see you back, I'm a new turner and found your videos while you were away and became a fan. You're so correct about the therapeutic of turning, i had some life drama happen and keep me away from it for a couple of months and could feel the stress, anxiety and anger start to pile on until i was able to get back to it. Great project that i will have to try, thanks.

Welcome back! A thought on your burned in logo… I’ve watched Doug do his before the final finish goes on. Once he burns it in, he sands it back until the logo is clear. Then he applies his finish. I can’t confirm from experience since I haven’t gotten my branding iron yet.
