Mikey does this work if someone is bigger than you or they have to be same size? When I try kimura from guard positions bigger guys just yank their arm out.

I'm not Mikey but jumping to a kimura from guard is totally different from what Mikey is proposing. He : 1) 4:46 - 4:52 Makes sure the person's weight is posted on the arm he is about to attack by pushing the arm and baiting the opponent to square up-- the more they square up the more weight on that hand, 2) 5:35 - 5:50 Maintains wrist control and opens the wrist putting the opponents arm in a weaker position to resist, 3) 6:03 - 6:08 Also has a tricep-grip that works with the twisted wrist control he established, 4) 6:24 - 7:28 Does not jump for the kimura but pulls and guides the already compromised opponent arm to him, sliding his forearm across the tricep, bringing it closer to his body while the the first 2 forces are maintained (opponent weight is still on their arm and wrist control is continued) along with the pressure from part 2 (pressure on the tricep) but instead of the tricep-grip, it is the sliding of your forearm that is applying the pressure So when you ask if this could work with a bigger opponent, well results may vary depending on my checkboxes you tick because technically to do it perfectly means that your opponent is never supposed to be in a position to resist with this technique once they put their weight on the arm you are to attack.

As Marcelo Garcia used to say, kimuras are a strong man's game, so he never used them. That being said, the variation Mikey showed here definitely maximizes your chances of pulling it on anyone, regardless of size.

No matter what position you are in you need the arm positionally comprised BEFORE you attempt to connect your hands. Weak arm=easy kimura
