Thanks for doing the "Dealing with Loss" topic guys. I really needed to hear that as I just lost my Godmother last week right before Pax and I just feel so weird going from the low to high to the numb in-between and having to think about death/family. Was uplifting to hear Colin talking about wanting to go before your parents because I very selfishly feel that way too sometimes cause I don't want to deal with the pain. I won't allow that to happen because I wouldn't want to make my mom/family have to deal with that instead. I'm actually afraid of the kind of person I'd turn into after losing my mother, most importantly, but like Tim says I'm just gonna have to do my best to pull through. Sorry for getting too deep but I really needed to hear this topic, right now. Really appreciate you guys taking the time to talk about it. Keep up the good work

Dealing with a loss, let it be a family member or even a close friend where they are basically family, is the hardest thing to go through especially when the loss is unexpected. I lost my father to a house fire just over a year ago, and lost very close co-workers the year prior. You just have to remember the type of impact that they left on your life and know that they are watching over you as you live your life to the fullest.

..Damn, the last section guys -- Hurt/Was Great/All the Words. A brief synopsis of my life so far (I'm 32): I moved back home after college, got a job nearby as my Dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer-many treatments and a year later, he died. A few months after that -- My Grandma was diagnosed with a benign but inoperable tumor that would slowly take her ability to walk, then eat, and speak until she died 3 years after. My Pap (Grandfather) was my goddamned trench buddy during that-- helping me as I was helping him get all the services, medical attention, and eventual 24 hour skilled nursing care that she needed -- My Pap and I both literally spent ourselves into poverty in order to care for her, and when she died... My Pap just stopped wanting to be in this world anymore and passed away about a year after she did. My brother and sister, other family members -- were far enough away, or in the process of starting their lives -- that they didn't have to deal with the day in and day outs of it -- They never got to be the guy who literally picked up his own grandmother to walk her into the Emergency Room because I couldn't make the staff understand that she was unable to walk under her own power. I've spent countless hours, sacrificed many social things a guy in his 20s and 30s should do, and spent a whole lot of money -- to be the person in my family who has spent the better part of a Decade helping people die. I've had so many Family Medical Leave hours used at my Job -- and only because it was the only way I could keep my Job. Fast Forward to now: About 3 weeks ago, my Step-Dad was given a very poor diagnosis of two separate end Stage cancers -- that required him being placed in a skilled nursing facility. I'm both seeing a decline I've already had experience with, while helping my Mom fill out Hospice paperwork, dealing with lawyers, funeral arrangements etc... and all the while still trying to hold down my job (which is becoming incredibly hard). Any free time I've had has been spent watching KF videos to try and unwind and take my mind away from this looming sensation -- best described as waiting for the other shoe to drop and not knowing how and when. ..Seeing this one, and seeing Tim get choked up and knowing that he's done it-- he's been the same guy I have, and how it just wrecks you. I know the other guys are pondering the "What ifs" -- and we all deal with it differently -- I just know this will be the Fourth person in Seven years that I've been the guy who is both trusted to... and expected to... Help. I honestly don't know if I'm ever going to have a Life similar to those in my age range/bracket -- In fact I feel like this, has become my life. ..All I know is I'm a wreck right now thinking about it all -- and I want to thank you guys for being some of my salvation/sanity with your content, and also-- in this show specifically -- pointing out the obvious to me in that... I don't have control over much in any of these situations, and I'm doing the best I can -- and that's the Gold Standard for End of Life---- You do what is necessary (and sometimes what no one else will), to make sure those you care about are supported, loved -- With the time and respect they deserve. My Step-Dad died the morning of 4th of May -- My Mom and I both beside him as he did. His Funeral is tomorrow morning -- so coming back to KZbin tonight to try and take my mind off of all the rushing around we've had to do in order to make arrangements --- Seeing all the comments really heartened me and made me feel like I wasn't so alone. Don't worry Tim, I get like that all the time too. My grandparents raised me and, my biggest fear is that one day while I'm taking some irrelevant test in college, that something could happen to them and I won't know about it because I'm so far away and, like Nick, I don't call them enough even though I should be...
