I think he's allowed to joke about the fact that he's not sure how stable the ride he's paying for is. It wasn't like he was making fun of the guy for having an old car, it was just him razzing that it was his uber ride. The whole rest of the conversation is pretty obviously sympathetic to what working class people and specifically uber drivers are dealing with. We can be class conscious and not take literally everything with offense. Also, these guys are definitely working class as well. By strict definition maybe the founders are petit bourgeois, but even as home and business owners they still work full-time to keep that business going and afford a lifestyle. That doesn't keep Nick from potentially joking in bad taste, but they're not like this elite pinching down.
