I was very fortunate to ever visit this school about 9 years ago when I was in Kyoto. I even had to endure moderate rains, taking 3 train rides from my hotel to Toyosato, alone. @Kinda Neet Thanks for taking us with you on this journey. Well done for showcasing this "pilgrimage" to one of the most fun slices of life shows. FYI, they were initially going to demolish the school building, but the local community banded together to preserve it. There's an interesting history behind the building too - the architect was American and became a naturalised Japanese citizen just before WW2 broke out. The bronze statue is a local wealthy businessman who donated the building. What's really hilarious is that his statue was the subject to some pretty funny scene transitions in the show with them dressing him up, although there's very little background as to whether that happened in real life. Note the "Tobidashi boya" (jumping boy sign that's common near schools around Shiga) that we see just before you enter the school at @3:20 has something unique to Toyosato - they actually use characters from the series instead of the generic cartoon boy in some parts of the town.
@KindaNeet4 жыл бұрын
I’m really glad you enjoyed! Wow I had no clue the history behind the school and never even questioned who the statue was 😅 thanks for writing that up it’s really interesting! Yes it didn’t make the cut be we noticed right away walking around Toyosato that the children crossing signs were the K-On! girls, such a nice touch by Toyosato!

@@KindaNeet Thanks for responding! I had recently just watched the show for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. I noticed your video in my feed. Reading up on trivia on the anime, I had done a quick check on the location and read a write-up about the museum there and the story behind the building. One of the blogs from previous pilgrims from the US from a few years back had noted local fans gathering in the evening to have a concert.

@@KindaNeet Different culture - even here in Oz - we read about respect being ingrained in Japanese culture - it certainly shows, at least in the myriad of visitor videos. I do hear that some areas are more prone to crime and have slightly more trash in the streets... but haven't seen any videos about that aspect. Sadly, it won't take much to see the contrast when looking at videos about many Western places. Minako Kotobuki, Mugi's VA, is currently vlogging from the UK, and recently posted up a video of her travelling on the tube, and the train carriage she was in was littered with graffiti.
@KindaNeet4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSledgehammer205 I did not Kotobuki had a KZbin channel I’ll definitely check that out! @Kinda Neet, I finally got to visit Japan last year, and man, do I have a story to tell you. When I visited the school, it was on a Monday, and I had gotten off at the wrong train station, some 50 or so kilometers outside of where I needed to be. So I decided to take a cab there, and when we were heading there, the cab driver had to take a piss while leaving the meter running. I kid you not, and when I finally arrived, the place was closed... The next day I got there, and it was open, thank God. But it was a little underwhelming; there wasn't a lot of K-On! items; in fact, the bakery I passed by the day before to take a train back to my city had more K-On! items on display. haha... but it is what it is, and I can at least say I got to visit the landmark. (I also sent you an email, have a look if you want.)
@KindaNeet Жыл бұрын
