Love the small group work!!! Curious-what are the other children doing while you work in the small group? Also-do you send the books home for the children to read to their families?

Awww thanks, Stephanie!! The other children are reading their independent book bags that have shared reading poems, chants, decodables and books inside! And YES, the book bags go home daily to read to their families!

This is a terrible way to teach kids to read. Just teaches them guessing

I’m sorry you feel like that. These students are not guessing- they are not able to decode yet so they are in books reading their sight words, working on CAP, 1:1 matching, making meaning and creating a love of reading instead of going through fluency passages and worksheets because having a love for reading is what it’s all about!

Students can absolutely decode at this age if they are taught the proper skills. I suggest looking into the science of reading

@@CuteTeenHairstylesXo yes! They can decode at this age, for sure! But these kiddos cannot decode yet. I do SOR as well within the foundational skills at the end of the lesson to incorporate and balance all the ways that readers put “everything” together! Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Ms. Courtney, I just want to say I like how are differentiating your teaching considering the kids level! Sciences speaks loud on a mass but sometimes it might not be the best friend to all learners. I like you are using the tool that can engage and inspire the kids to make sense of the materials.
