I teach kindergarten and loved your lesson on Number Talks. I have the book and have been to some trainings, but it helps to SEE what it should look like. You had said that you had the Dot Pattern Pages in your store, but I can't find them anywhere. What am I overlooking?

Using dot cards for kindergarten number talks is exactly what I do and my kids love it. Right now I am trying to get them to say "I know it was 3 because I saw 2 and 1 more. And I know that 2+1=3." It can also be powerful to flash the cards more quickly from time to time. Thanks for sharing!

I love that you are willing to change what you do to find what works. One of my favorite quotes is "If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn" You do this so amazingly well. I have taught Preschool and now have a home daycare (adding preschool) I love to continually change to meet my littles needs. I have learned so much from you and I love to try and incorporate what you are doing to help me become a better provider/teacher. Thanks!!

If you do a donors choose, you could also think about getting a Sphero as well to have another option for your kiddos. I have a sphero and I love it so much! It can do a lot!

+Teacher Life thanks for sharing that! I really want to incorporate more student led learning and exploring with coding and technology. It's where our society is and it's important for them to understand how to use it!

"I look like a hot mess" *still looks fabulous* Also, since I'm doing fieldwork for my education course, I got placed with kindergarten and I observe while also interacting with the students. My cooperating teacher had me run the math skills table with four of her kids, and I had to use dots but they were chips with red and yellow on each side. I gave the kids different amounts of those chips and they shake it in a cup and flip it over to reveal how many chips landed on the red side and how many landed on the yellow. Then they added them up and started again. They were having too much fun with that :P I think your dots idea is really great as well. I'm not sure if my cooperating teacher did something like that more in the beginning of the year, but i think it'd be really useful ... I just don't want to cross the line by giving ideas if that makes sense ~~ Enjoy your weekend!

Love the math kindergarten talk! That's an area in my first year that I'm struggling with - we are doing Everyday Math. The timing of day is very hard for my littles to stay engaged! Any tips on how you created partnerships and/or how to teach being in partners? I have two students who need teacher guidance otherwise they wander the room and mess up the other children's games. I have found having a small group at my table works well - but then I'm not able to wander the room to help other pairs and also assess where the other kiddos are with the skill/coach or teach out in the "audience." Any advice? I love watching your Kinder videos - they truly encourage me & give great ideas! Hope the grade switch has been going well for you and your new home!!

+Erin Harms I'll have to tie this in a video next week. There is so much that you could do to build these relationships. Like everything else they need to be taught how to work with partners. The biggest thing is to never assume.

Hi Brigdet, I m a kindergarten principal frm India nd I also teach a group of 5yr olds. Ur videos hv been very helpful and they r so informative tht I actually wait for them to get uploaded. I have watched almost all ur videos nd hv been impressed by ur different teaching methods be it kindergarten or ur current 4th grade. I also liked the way u hv decorated ur classroom. I like the idea of PRIDE frames on at ur small group area. I would love if u could send a link where u hv explained PRIDE in ur previous video. It would be grt if u could do tht. Waiting for ur reply.

I have done what we call "math talks" just like you described with my kinders. The only thing is I always feel awkward at the end...I am just like "Ok that's it". How do you usually end yours?
@lauralou26057 жыл бұрын
moiraonthemap I try to use transition sentence to end. For example "Now that we've sharpened our math brains, we are going to use this info to do our math lesson" something like that.
@BridgingLiteracy7 жыл бұрын
+moiraonthemap I always connect the learning to a learning target. I introduce the talks at the beginning of the number talk and have the students reflect back on the target and share their learning with a partner. We also talk about how we can use our learning in our work for the day.
