One other flaw about the Kindle in general is the lack of organizing the Home screen. It is not possible to remove a book that you have read back to the collection and also remove it from the Home screen. It can be done in the Kindle app for the iPad and iPhone. The Amazon Kindle software developer needs to add this feature in the next update.

Great review. I want a Kindle Scribe, but after seeing those templates, I might wait to see if they make an improvement on that in an update.

Liked your review, calm and rational. Looks to me like the Scribe should be thought of as a reading device with easier method of adding notes - but not a note-taking device. Wish I knew how the OS will be updated over time.

From the Amazon listing :) “In the coming months, Kindle Scribe will add more writing tools, including new brush types and copy/paste tools, additional notebook organization options, and the ability to send documents to Kindle Scribe directly from within Microsoft Word.”

@@APenandAPurpose Wow, that is a little bit exciting! So far everyone seems to be judging the Scribe by its initial launch only . . .

@@davidrutledge6215 You can only judge a product for what it is, not what the manufacturer promises it to eventually become, unfortunately. I hope the Scribe software catches up because I really like the hardware. If Amazon was a little more transparent about it's roadmap for the device and can make some promises as to WHEN features will be added, I think people would be a bit more forgiving.

Thanks for the review! I have one coming in on Tuesday, so we'll see how it goes. It's funny, some of the things you don't like are the exact reasons I'm purchasing it. I like the dark lines on the templates and the wider line spacing options. It's also the only e-ink writing tablet I've found with a good backlight. I'm legally blind, and I think those two aspects are going to make it the more accessible e-ink tablet. Plus the larger screen for reading means less page turning when the fonts are enlarged.
@APenandAPurpose2 жыл бұрын
I think you will love the backlight and all the adjustments you can make. :) The backlight is seriously the most consistent one I've seen on a tablet and I loved that it can change from cool to VERY warm. In re: to the templates I'm just very picky about the space between lines and I like my dots to be very light. I'd love to hear your experience with your Kindle Scribe! Have fun!

The pen inserting or removing from the loop on the case is not an issue if you just give it slight rotation as you slide in or out. I like the Scribe. Hopefully they provide some thoughtful updates via software for better note taking, but if you just give some foresight as you mention with including some blank pages here and there…it is a great alternative to moving away from paper (legal pads & composition books). And the reading side is awesome! Not giving up my Paperwhite, but I am happy with the Scribe!
@classicappetite2 жыл бұрын
Did you find you have gradually read more on the Scribe from the Paperwhite? I have books in pdf formats which now with larger 300ppi screen I can read comfortably these books and it feels like a real book as the full page and format is layed out beautifully! Really thinking of selling my Paperwhite which is sad...

Thanks for the review. I’ve had several Kindles in the past, as well as iPads. Hubby is getting me a Scribe for Christmas, and I’m anxious to give it a spin. I think it will be super helpful for my book club books, as well as for generally creating notes (I like to write, and am a real list-maker). Since I don’t currently have a e-tablet, I don’t have a lot to compare this to, so I expect to be happier than some people with this. I also think Amazon will be doing some software upgrades!

Thank you for the review. I've asked Santa for the scribe so fingers crossed LOL. I really just wanted a 10" e-reader with front/warm light to be more like a hardcover book experience, and to read my Cisco Press IT Certification textbooks that have graphs/diagrams. The writing feature is just a bonus for me. I was hoping a new larger version of the Oasis was going to be released before Christmas to compare what its specs would have been (I currently have the latest Oasis for reading).

They had a 20% off promo if you traded in a Kindle. I think it is still going if you have an old Kindle to trade. The K Scribe is awesome for reading. I think I edited out the part where I was showing pictures in a cookbook. :) The pics were pretty sharp!
@gregoryrobak4562 жыл бұрын
@@APenandAPurpose Yeah, I saw that promo, but still want to keep the Oasis for travel. Plus, that Oasis is worth more to me than the 20%. But still, a great option for those that need to shave off some of that high price tag!

OK, thank you very mucy. That's interesting and not as bad it at first seemed. The OS upgrades are obviously going to addressed sooner than later, since every Tom, Dick and Harry has a video disparaging the lack of major function in the Scribe. If you determine that a Bluetooth OR USB-C keyboard can be hooked up, perhaps you'll publish that info. Thanks.

Kindles are not back-lit; they are front-lit, which is how they eliminate the eye strain that back-lit tablets, monitors, cell phones, & TVs cause! All of those back-lit devices must be internally lit in order to be used, but Kindles don't need to be lit when they have sufficient available light from daylight or lamps. I wanted no part of the stenographer's notebook cover Amazon has for the Scribe. I searched the Web & found covers that open like book covers. I ordered one on eBay for $18.

Does you Supernote have the kindle app? If so, how does the app interface compare to the kindle reader?
@APenandAPurpose2 жыл бұрын
The Supernote has the Kindle app on it and it has a similar interface to other Kindles. It is a nice size, but it does not have a backlight. I purchased a clip on light for it but then didn't use that because I didn't want it to squeeze my Supernote. Let me know if you want me to record a quick video showing the Kindle app on the Supernote. (I have a different Supernote video that will go live tomorrow morning)
@jayvansickle76072 жыл бұрын
@@APenandAPurpose thanks for the quick response…I am interested to see how good or bad the experience is. I haven’t been able to find many videos that show that. Because of that kindle app inclusion, it sends that the Supernote is the more apples to apples competitor…since it’s not an Android device. It’s my understanding that the Supernote note taking is far better.

@drew2c6592 жыл бұрын
Just letting you all know there is a bug with the scribe. Just returned mine. The issue is when writing in middle of the screen there’s like a “bubble” that doesn’t allow you to write in or curves the e ink around. So for example if you were to draw a straight line through this problem area of the screen, it curves the ink around it and also does the same with the eraser. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing it but if it’s a software issue it’s likely to pop up on the new device they’re sending me. Which I told the customer service means they need to send out an update asap
@APenandAPurpose2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting us know this! Were you by chance near a magnet? I’ve heard magnets make the supernote do wacky things like this
@drew2c6592 жыл бұрын
@@APenandAPurpose I have one of the Amazon cases that has a built in magnet but other than that no. It’s also a bit inconsistent. For example if I continue to try and scribble across that area it will write but it still has the issue of not writing exactly where the pen tip touches the screen. It’d be easier to show with pictures. But I’m wondering if others have had a similar experience
@drew2c6592 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s weird. So I used the Amazon cover where the magnet sits inside the case and rubbed it against that ‘bubble’ and it seems to be gone ie I can write in that area and there’s no issues right now. Maybe I should reach back out to Amazon and stop my return

Question: Can each of the notes added to books be more than one page, more than that little window?
@APenandAPurpose2 жыл бұрын
I don’t see a way to make the box bigger however, you can create multiple notes on a page or in a book and what happens then is when you’re in that book you can open a notebook which is at the top of your screen and then

When you open the notebook on the top of the screen from within your book, it’ll show you each of those squares in order for the whole book so you can see all your notes kind a like on one page it scrolls up and down

And then from within there, you can share it and email the PDF document of all those squares with your notes on it to yourself
