Kindle Scribe vs iPad Pro for Reading and Annotation

The Scribe has a nice handwriting feel and is fun to use. However, most people will benefit more from using the iPad Pro for their note taking.
The Scribe is not aiming to knock out the tablet competition, but they want to plant a flag in the digital handwriting space. The Remarkable 2 is another product worth considering if you want to have realistic feeling digital notes, but it doesn't allow you to annotate Kindle books, which is the biggest perk of the Kindle Scribe.

One thing I should have done better here is I didn't cover the iPad Kindle app. You can actually write notes in the Kindle app, which is a cool development I overlooked and merits being mentioned here! So you don't even need the Scribe to do handwritten notes, but everything else is accurate 👍

The iPad is great, but for me I LOVE taking notes on an e-ink tablet. The Scribe is pretty good, if not limited in features right now compared to Remarkable, but a promising start. e-Ink is just a lot easier on my eyes and free from distractions. I have my iPhone or Macbook for anything that needs more.

Great video. Im looking to upgrade from my current kindle. Everything you mentioned was very helpful. Not gonna lie, the comments are crazy saying your comparing the kindle to the ipad when the title clearly stated comparison for the purpose of reading and annotating. Again great video.

Some people in the comments have slightly rude comments, which was surprising to me. I think you did a great job in comparing the things that you stated in the video which were particular to your use case. I appreciated the sound test as I have been scouring the internet trying to find someone who actually showcased the sound difference when writing and I am really grateful, so thank you!

I have a the iPad 12.9 M1 and there are settings for reading, do not disturb etc. , you have the paper light screen protector and of course the Kindle App, I'm sticking with my iPad.

I’m okay with the scribe because I have lots of textbooks in the Amazon ecosystem. But because I like to draw, like colored pictures and that slamming Apple Pencil, I will ALWAYS have an iPad!

Not sure why you said the price point was the same the pro is like 2-3x different. But this was the BEST review i've seen yet. They have an amazon prime deal, debating it. But dissapointed that hte notes dont seem to have more options, and seems to still have that lagginess that all the kindles do :( Fwiw i sometimes think the LACK of apps is a positive. I often use my kindle to read that way i dont get self distracted But thanks for hte re view!

It's not a good comparison, iPad to Kindle scribe. The scribe is for a bookworm that needs and want to anotate on the go. While iPad is waaay more focused on digital art or content creation.

The Scribe is certainly not a full replacement for an iPad of course. This is aimed at comparing the overlapping features to eachother. Basically; would someone who had an iPad still consider a scribe or would someone considering a scribe get enough from the iPad.

great learning video, question: would like to buy books online, copy and paste certain paragraphs, some photos and add notes, which iPad can you recommend that is least expensive. thanks for your efforts.

If you don’t need to annotate anything, basically every iPad will be able to do those basic things. Most places sell refurbs. Just be careful not to get like a 1st generation as the OS might no longer update (not positive though).

i understand some people do get something out of this type of content. Here's me playing devil's advocate for this entire video. The Kindle Scribe is an intentionally single, or in this case dual, focused device. You can read, you can take notes. I don't think the Scribe is trying to compete with the iPad. This video would make more sense if you were comparing something like an Onyx Boox device to the iPad lineup. Just my two cents.

Yeah the scribe definitely isn’t trying to replace the iPad entirely. I mostly just made this to showcase the differences in case someone only wanted a reader/writer tablet. IPad all day though if you want pure value for your dollar.

Reading is nicer on the scribe and the warmth and brightness settings are great. It’s especially better in sunlight compared to an iPad but the iPad will have the better resolution overall of course for other things.

Which parts are unfair? Obviously the iPad is more powerful but for a handwriting/reading solution, I think they are comparable
