It's also poor effort to have created a video to recommend an ipad having had no hands on experience with the new kindle. Not only is this comparison as comical as "get a car if your ass hurts when you cycle", but it completely ignores the actual use cases. Like how about the new kindle scribe is also a massive amazon ereader as well? Stepping up from an oasis, it is a huge jump in size and it will be amazing for reading as well, it isn't just about the pen. But then I did search this paperless movement company and they offer a course on digital notetaking that is biased towards using ipad apps. So there we have it.

I own both Remarkable 2 and now the Kindle Scribe. This is clearly an emerging and maturing market and the competing devices are fun, albeit a little expensive, to be trying out. Remarkable has the head start, but I imagine Amazon will quickly catch up. As for the devices, both are great to use. I think the Kindle benefits from the lighted screen - Remarkable simply needs to add that feature. Weather resistance is another feature that both of these devices should add. The Kindle Scribe is very fast and the screen resolution very pleasing. I will continue to use my Remarkable for work, where I,also, love note taking on my iPad. That is where I integrate the notes I want to save. One other thing, the Remarkable 2 is now down to $279. That is most welcome, as would be a lighted screen and, perhaps, a mini version for on the go work. The robust competition added by the Scribe is most welcome. There is nothing like competition between two able competitors.

Ok. You are reviewing a product you don't have hands on and comparing apples to well, oranges. As a general tablet, iPads are better. But for a distraction free device; eInk tablets win. When it comes to eReaders, Kindle wins out right - the display is actually healthy for your eyes (fact) Personally? I think you should pull this video until there is a: a hands-on review of the Kindle Scribe, or b: you actually spend some time using one and the eco system it's going to have. Trashing something that isn't even out yet doesn't earn you any brownie points and just make it seems like you're out to promote Apple products no matter what the truth is.
@paperlessmove2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comprehensive feedback, James! This video is not about bashing e-ink devices in general. As Tom mentioned in several places inside the video, he totally understands why people use e-ink devices for distraction-free working with a paper feeling. What worries us, are people who buy such devices in hopes that they'll become more productive this way, while, in fact, it's the lack of understanding of how such devices integrate into their overall productivity setup that hinders people to get a well-oiled productivity setup working. So the video is to point out the friction people have if they plan to use such devices with collaboration and teamwork in mind or to integrate them with other systems to leverage the information they collected on an e-ink device. The other thing we are very surprised about, is the lack of functionalities like handwriting-to-text conversion and global search of handwritten notes, especially for a device developed with Amazon. For this reason, it all comes down to pricing. And for this price, it's hard to compete with alternatives like the iPad or to justify an upgrade from a normal Kindle to read eBooks. Of course, you are right, those are personal opinions on a device that we don't have tested physically yet. Be ensured, we'll do it once it's available and update our video if things change. However, from experience testing the reMarkable 2 and the Supernotes, and the information about the feature set the Kindle Scribe has to offer, we are confident that this review/first impression is as accurate as it can be. Here is one of many Video reviews about the reMarkable 2 we did on this channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3qliHxvbKd9aNk

@@paperlessmove Thank you for taking the time to reply. I understand the point you are trying to make regarding productivity. But, the Kindle Scribe is an unknown beast at the moment. What we don’t know outweighs what we do know about the device. Handwriting recognition? We don’t know. The sync app and eco system? We don’t know. We know it will have integration with MS Word, with Word having the ability to send and receive documents direct from the Scribe. But at a basic level, we know very little about how it will work, and how it can be used. I think you have drawn conclusions based on very little information about the Scribe, which make your conclusions about it misleading. Personally? I would have held off on any conclusion regarding it until it was out, and in hand. But I get it, you have to use current eInk tablets as a reference point. Again, I find your conclusion misleading. Onyx Boox eInk Tablets run Android, and Android apps. Some of those devices are running eInk colour screens and would give an iPad a good run for its money (from a productivity POV, and a group working experience). I use a Boox Nova Air C, which allows me to access any Android app, on a full colour epaper screen. I use the Go 3, half the price of an iPad and it ties in seamlessly with the Microsoft cloud options. I had an iPad pro 12.9" and found the writing experience horrible. The downside to this is you are stuck with OneNote (Goodnotes is, apparently, coming in 2023) and OneNote often feels like travelling back to the 90's. If I had the cash I'd go for a surface pro over an iPad any day of the week.

Great feedback! As a business professional mainly working in the Microsoft ecosystem, this makes total sense! The solutions offered by Microsoft on the iPad cannot compete with having a Surface and running the native apps there. That's what the goal of ICOR, thought inside the Paperless Movement membership, is all about. Helping people understand what they REALLY need for their specific use cases. In many cases, the current setup is already great, and it's not a tool or device but the understanding of processes and workflows that'll improve overall productivity. A very thoughtful video, yet it is understandable given your connection to the apple ecosystem. So, a serious question that I am looking for an answer to as I don't think it was thoroughly addressed in your video. What about someone who is heavy into the kindle ecosystem? There is a lot of content with the books and pdf's I read on the kindle oasis device. I have an iPad mini with apple pencil and matte finish screen protector so the writing has a friction to it making it feel more like paper. Here is the thing though, I noticed my tendencies: 1. I use my iPad mini to read more than anything. Then I pick up my kindle to read other things some more (tied to kindle unlimited). I like Kindle oasis better as it is lighter even than the apple mini. I like to learn a lot, I am learning Greek and Hebrew and I research things...so reading and note taking is primary and would add to the books I am reading in the kindle ecosystem specifically. I do not use iPad mini a lot for all the other things it does...not gaming, not watching ( although...some KZbin). So for someone like me heavy into the kindle unlimited ecosystem and books and pdf's in general, what would you say? All of this is always about content, how it is delivered, how accessible it is, how creatively your work within the content is. Most would agree with you when highlighting the tech as being inferior to the tech on an iPad--yet, isn't the question of content more important than you what is being addressed here? For someone heavy into kindle books, do you have a different answer? Lastly, I do have noteshelf, evernote, apple notes, and some other apps that can work with apple pencil. Youi mention Readwise; I will look into that, is there any other app you would suggest in relationship to knowing that I am heavy into the kindle ecosystem and kindle unlimited specifically? With iPad, my problem is that I am not you; what I mean is that I am not in the position to pay premium services to all the monthly apps like evernote or nimbus or...or...or...(there are so many). The problem from a distraction standpoint on an iPad is not just about the alerts and various other opportunities like gaming or video. The problem also is the lack of clarity in the ecosystem of what you want to do from a note taking standpoint with so very many things in different ecosystems not tied together. Is it possible the simplicity of a device like kindle with the content you use makes someone most productive? Just looking for a thoughtful discussion...

When you want to switch back to color all you have to do is “Triple press your home button” (that is if you have one my iPads are old 2012 & 2017) and it will return to color. There are many other amazing things you can do with the Accessibility and assistive touch features but that would require a deep dive into all the possibilities - I use many of these features. They work both on my iPhone, iPad, and IPad Pro. Hope this helps someone! Thanks for the video!

There's still glare. It's not only about the lack of color.

Great review Tom. Couldn’t agree more. For years I’ve used iPad with PaperLike and Noteshelf app. It works great. But I decided to try RM2, and I gave it 3 weeks. I felt like I had stepped back decades of productivity. I could give you 20 reasons how/why iPad is the best device for handwriting productivity.

For handwriting it is but for reading for long times it hurt the eyes. I love both i am lucky to have boths

Jim, I'd like to hear some of those 20 reasons, please.

@@sethkahanongrandchallenges6306 Here are the most important two for me: ability to work in different colors and efficiency of having one device. Look, no matter how much we say we want/need a distraction-free device, chances are we keep that distraction device (i.e., smartphone, tablet) very near us at all times anyway. Why not just work with one device? One other thing, I like the organization methodology of Noteshelf way better than what RM2 offered, though in fairness that might be because I was more used to it. I remember when I took the RM2 back to DHL, the only carrier that handles returns, the lady at the front desk said, "We get a lot of these."
@TNValleyVideos2 жыл бұрын
One other thing, if you have Paperlike on your iPad, I can all but guarantee you won't notice a material/demonstrable difference with how handwriting feels on iPad vs RM2.

I do own iPad and eink device Boox Note Air 2 Plus. I prefer Note Air 2 Plus over iPad. It's very subjective. What I don't like about your video is the fact you always try hard to objectifying your subjective views and experience. This is nothing but an attempt to compare apple to oranges.

Can't agree more. Eink devices is just so lacking in terms of functionality. I can only think of them as digital version of paper note books, offering excellent writing feel compared to an ipad of course that's good, but also comes with the inefficiency of a real notebook. Even if you can export the notes, you can't change it, link them, search them. So I would say this type of devices is just a digital version of notebook. You get what you get with a real notebook from these devices, and them some sharing capability, and that's basically it. If you use a few apps to build a workflow of knowledge management or something like that, eink tablet is not a good choice. If you don't do that, just want a notebook to replace your paper notebook, then it's worth a try.

Hi, I’m happy to find your channel tonight, and immediately I subscribed :) I bought and refund remarkable 2 because of all limitations you mentioned and then I came to by new kindle and again disappointed. Finally because all what you said and I’m totally agreed, I am going to buy an iPad only for my reading and writing. I own 12.9 M1 for my business and it’s heavy and big for reading and writing. I tested new 8.3 mini and it was small for my hands. Then I bought and refund 11 pro but it was expensive to keep only for reading and writing! Finally after lots of searching, I decided to buy 10.2 (9th generation) with economy price, thin and light weight, and in good size for my needs. My question to you is: did I make the right decision or you have another and better option for me and my needs? Thank you

At the time of the making of the video Kindle Scribe wasn't even out. Also why would you compare a tablet to an eink device? This video makes no sense.
@pinball162 жыл бұрын
Why would you want an apple product? three times the cost and not even e-ink. unsubscribed.

nonsense non argument. Will someone buy a car instead of a bike because it’s faster?. People buy and ride bikes for convenience, health or sports. Kindle Scribe is essentially a different product type than iPad which fulfils very different needs.

Ha, the dislikes on this video are almost as great as the likes. Also lots of disagreeing comments. I tried drawing on an iPad pro and it sucks.
@pastlives8420 Жыл бұрын
The point is that it's e ink you maniac. Also an iPad pro costs like over $1,000 what is wrong with you. This is the equivalent of saying like well this motorized scooter sucks, you'd be better off buying a car. Who is this helping?
@drunclewallace8924 Жыл бұрын
I spend premium to buy Kindle Scribe because iPad or even iPad Pro will stress my eyes within 15mins. For that reason alone, it's worth to get an e-ink device. Ask yourself, how much does your eye worth?

The ipad is a ipad the new kindle is a new kindle the remarkable is a remarkable. All said and done the ipad is not Eink if your looking for a Eink device then it's not going to be a ipad. If you want a Mercedes car don't buy a mini. If you want a eink device then the new kindle is the way forward. Not a ipad

Evernote + Rocketbook (scanned using Scannable) is the way to go. Evernote premium searches really well for words on handwritten notes scanned thru Scannable.

Hi Tom Why are you so « up-set » about Remarkable and similar devices ( I know nothing about the new Kindle)? As you may know since long, I use both the RM ( still using the RM 1) and the iPad (iPad pro 10.5 with pencil gen 1) in varied occasions … Yes Apple Notes is a fantastic Note Taking App, and I use it a lot, yes Procreate is a second to none drawing tool (requires quite an experience anyway) but, when I want to draft something, do some math, try to sketch a diagram, I use RM as I was using paper … without loosing it or piling Notebooks, c an’t tel you why, but in those occasions I am more confortable on a RM than on the iPad. Indeed, when I use those notes either on iPad or RM, to produce a final doc … I retype them, rephrase correctly, draw ´neatly … on a Mac (home) or a PC (work). I should confess that I am not as « integrated » as you are with ICOR cause I use the bespoke tools of the company I work for … may be it’s one of the reason why … I see that you are always very passionate about Productivity in the digital ecosystem and I like it ! Kind Regards Erick
@paperlessmove2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comprehensive feedback, Erick! Tom actually also uses the RM for the same reasons as you do. Sketiching,drafting instead of using paper. But this is what he also pointed out in the video. It's good for this reason, but it's hard to use it as an integrated tool with other productivity tools and therefore adds friction. Something, that is no longer state of the art and could have been improved by Amazon, offering the first e-ink device with a proper integration functionality, or at least some proper OCR functionalities. For not providing this, the price tag to have device that just replaces sketching paper, is pretty steep.

This is my friend's second Kindle. kzbin.infoUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.
