KINDLE VS PHYSICAL BOOKS | Which is Better?

When I first bought my Kindle, I had no idea if I would prefer it over physical books. Ultimately, I ended up loving it! In this video, I'm going to compare books and Kindles through the feel of each, the readability of each, the pricing of each and then I'll share my preferred option and recommendation between the two at the end of the video. I will go through all the different topics that I found to be relevant and try my best to make a decision based on all the pros and cons of both!

Kindles have frontlights, not backlights. It's an important distinction, because backlights are what make tablets uncomfortable to read on.

As someone who used to have hundreds of books in my library, I have switched to Kindle last year and couldn't be happier. The fact that an entire lifetime of books can be stored on one kindle is amazing. I also find it much easier to read especially larger books.

I mainly read on my ereader, but occasionally I also still read physical books, usually it’s a book that I’ve borrowed from a private library that’s on the first floor of my apartment’s building. But I prefer reading on my ereader because my activities make it difficult for me to have physical book to everywhere I go. I rarely go out of my house without my ereader.

I first got the Paperwhite in 2017, the 7th Gen, and I LOVE IT. I already had a box full of books that I was reading from, but I LOVE the convenience of the Paperwhite and being able to catch up on my phone if I'm waiting for a appointment or waiting to pick someone up, etc... I even bought a second one used, the 3g model(I know the 3g will be shut down soon) for work. I read a lot at night and the Paperwhite is easy on my eyes. And when I found out that I can rent Kindle books from the library, I was sold. Now I prefer the Paperwhite over physical books.

I think the choice between physical or digital books is complicated. I do both. Some types of book work much better as physical objects especially when the formatting of the text is important or integral to the content. An extreme example would the House of Leaves which wouldn’t be possible in digital format. Books with a lot of pictures or illustrations are also not as good as digital. Then there is poor formatting or text errors in some digital books. Can I add how much I hate forced ragged right alignment? But for ordinary novels digital is usually better.

I've tried e-reading, but it was hard for me to focus with it and it gave me eye strain. I much prefer physical books. The feel of the book in your hands, the smell of the pages, nothing an e-reader has to offer can compare to that experience in my humble opinion.

For me, choosing an ereader over a physical book is purely a practical thing: easier to carry around and store, easier to annotate, cheaper in the long run. However I don't really recommend it to people, because I know that if I could I would always choose a physical book. I love it, I love using it and it's amazing, but it's also a solution to a problem, more than a preference.

I enjoy reading both Kindle Books and Physical Books. I prefer Kindle Books because Physical Books take up too much space in my house. The Kindle Book is easier to hold and has so many features. Josephine Calabrese, Author

I do agree with many of your points but the major drawback of an ereader is the inability to give away your books. I can read a book, speak to someone about it years later then give them the book since we were having a conversation about it. This book that is collecting dust in my house that I will never read again. With an ereader old books cannot be given away to be appreciated anew.

Sounds diplomatic, but "both" is the answer 😀👍 Here is what I think... depends on the age group, as long as "YOU" love to read and learn then any format suits for sure, especially engaging teens, an e-book is the best way to introduce, if you are mature enough and starting your career journey, still e-book is the best, once you cross 30 than its better to have a physical collection, bookshelf presence make a huge difference.

Kindle doesn’t have backlit screen, it has sidekit screen which is a huge difference. Where as tablets glow the light from the back of the screen toward your eyes, Kindle has LEDs on the side of the reader glowing sideways toward the center of the screen and special layer on top of the screen bends the light directly on to the screen. Much less blue light and eye strain.

I actually like taking notes and highlighting better in my nook because I have a really hard time writing in books, I know if it's my book that's fine but I still can't get past messing up the page.

I can't physically read a paper book s the Kindle has been a real lifeline for me. Also, storage is a major advantage as I haven't got much shelf space.

When you buy a physical book, you own that book. You can sell it or give it away. When you buy an ebook, you do not own it. If you cancel your Amazon account or do something to cause Amazon to close your account, you lose your books.

So, I think it's kind of like Spotify and vinyl (or other physical media)-you get it for the road, but if there's one piece you really, really like, then you buy the real thing. I think I'm getting the hang of this 21st century thing.

I read the free samples on Kindle and but then, if I decide to buy the buy I will order the paperback.Other than that I only use my kindle for reading artilces which accumulate on a word document throughout the week.
