It's great that your parents bought you a Kindle at such a young age. I bought my son a paperwhite 2 second hand. He is 9 and he loves reading. I still have the 4th gen kindle. If your child enjoys reading, support this. There's no better quality and it builds their imagination.

I've been going back and forth about wanting a kindle. This video definitely sold me. As much as I love paperback (and would never completely abandon it), you gotta admit it's kind of a hassle having your phone nearby just to look up words or grabbing a pen/highlighter to remember your favorite parts. If it's for convenience, then definitely go for the ereader. But for sentimental souls out there, paperback still for the win. Either which, it all boils down to what you need. Thanks for the info, great video :)))

Great video, I bought a kindle a few months ago and I really like it. You're right, it's not about how it's read, it's about the content and convivence. I like the fact that I don't have to hold a heavy physical book. If I saw big thick book with so many pages, psychologically it demotivates me to start it.

Something about reading real books hasn’t always been satisfying to me. Books are sometimes really big and it would be bothersome to hold up and read. Also, turning pages was tiresome for me. The most annoying thing about real books is keeping it open! Sometimes i just wanted to eat breakfast and read but the book would not stay open. I also was embarrassed to read a book in public because i didn’t want people to know what i was reading or to judge me because i was reading. I also didn’t want people to come up to me and talk about the book i was reading. A kindle is super light and easy to hold. No one has to know what i’m reading. It looks natural (in today’s world) because it just looks like i’m browsing on a tablet which is what everyone does anyways.

My main motivation is saving trees. Sure, I love the smell of books, the feel of one in my hands, love to have a library and be surrounded by books, etc. etc. But knowing that Millions of trees are cut every year to make books makes me feel better about my choice of a kindle reader/kindle app. I have roughly over 2,000 books in my kindle, and I sleep better at night knowing I saved at least a few trees.

I'm a recent convert to Kindle, having gotten the Oasis about a month ago. I had been one of those people who strongly preferred physical books, and I still prefer a high-quality, clothbound hardcovers for special titles, but the Kindle allows me to read more, because of increased comfort and portability. As someone on the autism spectrum, for whom sensory stimuli can be incredibly annoying, I appreciate being able to control every facet of the reading experience--typeface, font size, margin size and style, brightness and color temperature--on a Kindle.

I'm absolutely in love with my Kindle. I've read more books than I've ever had with any of the devices I owned. I used to read on my IPad mini for years but battery was a constant issue, plus the screen wasn't really anti glare which made it hard to read outdoors. While I love physical books as well, they're not the most convenient to take with when traveling around.

I held off on getting an ereader but finally gave in. So far it has fit in perfectly with my daily routine. I like to wind down after my work shift and usually spend that time in the dark watching movies/shows. Since I got my ereader I find myself reading during that time instead. Having a lit screen instead of having to turn on a light just works for me during that time of the day. I have found since getting back to reading regularly that my mind is clearer if that makes any sense, more focused I guess. I sometimes put on noise canceling headphones and have soft music/rain sounds/whatever playing while reading and it's almost meditative. I think it is great for novels. I'm not sold on giving up my physical reference/technical books yet. Especially considering the cost of some of them even in digital form.

@Tristan

Thanks so much! As far as a new kindle, the only benefits of the Oasis is the screen is a bit bigger, it has a warm backlight and is made of metal rather than plastic. Other than that they’re basically the same other than design so you’ve got to decide if the price difference is worth those improvements!

The best part about the kindle is that I can connect it to my local library and borrow books for free that download directly to my kindle. I have saved hundreds of dollars and never have to make a trip to the library or worry about late fees because when the loan expires the book is automatically sent back. I can’t even remember the last time I spent money on a book.

Besides: Do you know what blessing a kindle is to people or kids who gotta share a room where there is not enough storage space for a book shelf or similar? And where you cant turn on the lights in the evening because it would disturb the other one in the room? Its a blessing!

I got the 1st gen paperwhite and it's still great, although doesn't get any of the new updates. I've always wondered why they don't have the option of using the book cover of your current book as the screensaver.

Yeah unfortunately your kindle won’t get the newest updates anymore:/ the newest update does have the feature of using your current book as the screensaver, I use it on my Voyage!

I’m looking to get a kindle but not sure which one to get (either the standard or paperwhite) I have a massive book collection that I need to trim down and declutter. My only concern is graphic novels/comics and other books that include images that I also read. For those I was thinking of getting a kindle fire. At the minute I am using my phone to read kindle books but I always get distracted after reading by having a quick look on social media or KZbin and that is seriously impacting my sleep, hopefully having just the kindle to read will help with that.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it! I'd recommend the Paperwhite as its screen is a lot better and given that the only purpose of a Kindle is to read from, its very important for it to look decent!

usb c would be great, what do you mean by immersion reading?
@SMChristian
@SMChristian 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tristan immersion reading is where you can listen to your audiobook and read at the same time.

I read on my kindle fire and Samsung tablets sometimes and I don't get distracted by notifications because I turn off Wi-Fi while reading.
@Tristan
@Tristan 3 жыл бұрын
Good point! The whole getting distracted was only one reason and I was actually getting at possibility of distraction due to the temptation to just open another app because of how easy it is on a tablet. On a Kindle you can only read, nothing else!

I have my favourite physical collections, so the Paperwhite is the absolute best thing. Not to mention checking out books from the library. The frightening thing is, eBooks aren't always supportive to the Author.

There’s always been controversy about this you’re right. I guess consumers tend to look past those issues, it’s similar to controversy around services like Spotify

Never been a reader throughout my life. In fact I hated it when I was of your age But now I actually wanted to read a political thriller as I like politics so decided to read it on my laptop instead of buying paper back I have given myself a target of 10 books and I'll be reading it on laptop for now before I buy a Kindle.
