As an American girl with Choctaw and Irish heritage, this story fills me with pride and joy. Watching the Choctaw girl dancing with the Irish girl made the tears fall. So proud! ❤

I visited about two years ago. I'm from California but my dad grew up in Limerick, Ireland so my family was in Ireland during the famine and forever grateful. I will always stand up for native Americans against all their enemies government and corporate. We are kindred spirits because our common struggles against imperialism. All Irish Americans should stand in absolute solidarity with native Americans. #NoDAPL!

Chief, You have every right to be proud. When the rich and powerful were immoral your ancestors were on the side of the angels. When time is no more we will still remember.

The reconnection is not just recent: On October 18, 1919, Éamon De Valera, while touring the US as the President of the Irish Republic, was adopted as an honorary chieftain of the nation during a visit to their reservation in Wisconsin.

Yakoke (thank you) for this video and respect from the people of Ireland! My great-grandfather, Hugh Buchanan McCann (one of the so-called "Mad McCanns), emigrated from County Clare during the Great Famine, and married a Choctaw woman, in an area of Louisiana where most of the people were Native American or Irish, so we've continued to be a mix of Irish and Choctaw. My Choctaw name is Nashoba Lusa Taloa - "Black Wolf Singing". I am equally proud of my Irish and Choctaw ancestry! And we truly are kindred spirits!

It's such a special relationship that after 175 has never been forgotten, it makes me proud as an Irishman that our people are now showing the same generosity back. And marking the bond between us with this amazing sculpture is very special indeed, it will be there for future generations to remember

It's not often I'm brought to tears, but this managed to accomplish that,I was made aware from a young age of the help our country received from your people,I am just so thankful others are too now and it hopefully gives them hope for humanity and where things went wrong and got us to the point we're at now,I think I speak for all here when I say there will ALWAYS be a welcoming here for you in Ireland should things get too much on American soil...GOD BLESS YOU ALL,DEAR FRIENDS ♡🙏

I am the descendant of the Wye family of Ireland. Thank you for your kindness to 2 thirds of my Ancestor's and your kindness to the Irish people. It's very likely I would never of been without your help and I never knew this as brought up with English history in school, so very narrow and not complete or honest, none of us are perfect 😉 Now learning in my 50's and grateful for the knowledge. All my family back then were farmers or land workers at the time in Ireland, Wales and England. Humbled, deeply moved and had some hope at seeing kindness and respect can exist, when greed and control is not the focus on the table instead it's compassion and friendship. Thank you for what both nations did. 💞🙏💞

It's a disgrace that the American government has not put their hand in their pocket to help these people.. Are they our people or yours? Americans should feel alot of shame right now for abandoning these people.
