Thanks for another great review! My big takeaway from this one is these might not be right for every application. After installing in the laydown position on a deadbolt w/ Patagonias I too experienced the front driveshaft issue. Remounting on the shock towers helped with that. They help a ton on descending and gaps, but raise the COG enough to hinder on steep inclines. I think the suggestions in the comments about limiting straps are a great idea. It's hard to find the happy medium with weight and balance. Keep up the good work and thanks for spending sooo much time and $$ for our SCX 24 community!!

Yeah I absolutely love them on the 2 rigs I’m running them on. This one with the hard body they didn’t do so well. Probably could’ve limited them a bit but then what’s the point of having all that travel and limiting it lol
@greenmondaymorning3 жыл бұрын
27:25 You mentioned the rear having too much travel on a vertical climb. If you put a chain from the center of the rear axel to the frame you can stop the entire rear end from dropping to far from the body but it will still be able to fully flex. Depending on how much chain you use and the right conditions of course.
@2fmrc3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve just never been a big fan of limit straps. They work ok but kinda ugly usually. I honestly just prefer a little less travel on most rigs.

Enjoying mine. I went with with the VLP spring too. Only issue I am having is the barrels tend to bind up a bit when going back into the resting position. It makes the bodysit higher and sit uneven. Probably pull them apart and try to polish them up a bit so them move freely and back into the lowest resting position
@BurgerurgerFPV4 жыл бұрын
I noticed that the front wheels curl back and you have to pull the wheels apart to get it to rest flat. Honestly i think because the front links are shorter than the back ones the front shocks allow it to travel further. Think of how Mars travels around the sun faster than earth... that’s because it’s closer and has to travel less distance than earth. Not think that Mars is the front links and earth is that back links. Since Mars( front links) are closer or shorter to the sun( motor plate) it has more of a sharper curved travel. And the travel allows it to start and curl under itself, whereas the back links are long enough and they don’t have such a steep curve so they don’t start to curl in, they just extend down in a straight line before it has the chance to curl. And since the front curls in, you have to pull the wheels apart to sit it level

So it's cool that it's got all that Flex and that it doesn't change the ride height but you put a limiting strap right in the center of the front axle and you'll never have that issue and you'll stick it all the flex you want but the axle won't drop out so far I think that would work perfect

Hi Apparently Kinetic has two versions of the double barrel kits for 1/24 scale shocks. Original version kit for Axial SCX24 shocks: > Kinetic Brand Double Barrel shock upgrade kit, Axial SCX24 1:24th scale crawler New Version kit specifically for HR shocks: > Kinetic Brand Over/Under shock upgrade kit, for HR SXTF326R01 At the time of writing this comment both Kinetic versions are now out of stock. Yeah these are supposed to be the new version for the hot racing shock. I already have their stock version. The stock version won’t allow the hot racing caps to thread onto them. @@2fmrc thanks for the kindness in reply regarding this subject matter. After seeing your video I checked Kinetic eBay store; since we live in 🇬🇧, we are more hours ahead of you and Kinetic in CA. We notice the stock available disappeared quickly. We can only assume they took note of your contacting them and took down their listing to check the issue you brought to their attention. We think there could have been a slight mix up of component pieces for both versions being sold. Why? Because the day they released their HR version, we contacted them enquiring about original version and were told they would be uploading them and were given the eBay ID for originals. We cannot find the listing as it still hasn't been uploaded. Just got my shocks and I’m having the same problem as you with the little metal shafts. The worst part is i don’t have anything but my hands and sand paper so i don’t wanna try to sand it like that, i ended up using the stock metal shaft but i wish they fit for what i paid for

you should try out droop on this rig, it would eliminate all of your body roll and that thing would climb like a beast especially with the shock extensions giving downward flex. Just get some rubber bands attached to the chassis and lower links to bring them together and you will be able to climb much steeper stuff trust me.
@AeneasMacdonaldEdits4 жыл бұрын
it would also greatly lessen the chance on the front drive shaft binding up. I run droop on all my 1/10 rigs I would love to see you try it on your decked out 1/24

If you’re getting too much flex you could tie some string to each axle near each wheel at what ever length you see fit to limit how far the axles can drop Sometimes real rock crawlers and off road trucks do that. May help. Just a thought
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
Yeah some limit straps would work. I didn’t really plan to run them on this truck so I didn’t bother. I just wanted to test them on something a little different so we would know if they were a simple bolt on for any truck or needed a little work on certain builds. I just got my double barrels for my Deadbolt in last week. I tried to mount them in the position you had installed them as well, and my front drive shaft actually came all the way out. I am going to figure out how to get some shock straps to keep them from over extending. As a newbie to this hobby are there any performace advantages mounting shock like you have on your Toyota?
@jarrettford70904 жыл бұрын
I have these but can’t figure out how to get the front to not fully extend out when going up a steep incline. They work great otherwise, flex is amazing and they are smooth.
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s the problem I was having with this heavy body pulling on them. Limit straps may be the answer. I have a set on my tube chassis rig and didn’t have an issue but it’s much lighter and barely any weight up high unlike the hard body truck.
@jarrettford70904 жыл бұрын
My c10 is basically stock up top and has all the weight on the axles or in the links. An it’s still does it almost as bad as the hardbody. But I was thinking limiting straps too. I’ve seen someone use a rubber band.? You have any other ideas on what to use for a tiny limiting strap?

Some people thinks a lot of drupe on ur suspension is a good thing. To much is worse then not enough! In something like that Toyota about 1" of travel because u don't want the tires falling down in holes. U want it to float the tire or carry it across most low points. It will also stop it from rolling over and will help with side hilling by tightening the compressor up on the shock it's self

I CANNOT find these shocks... I've been thinking of getting the Old man Emu 60?-70? mm shocks and mounting them at an angle somewhere on the chassis. I'm impressed as hell with the truck, she's just a bouncy lil girl. And I would like more smooth flex. I've added solder to a few places on the truck and it's starting to handle like it has some weight, which is nice. But I want these kinetic shocks! Where else can I find them besides ebay

They only sell on eBay for now. Just gotta stalk their store lol. I have the old man emu on one of my C10s. I like them with no springs. Not great but they work well with no springs. My favorite mid size shock is probably the aluminum CR24. They work awesome on my Jeep! If you need a ton of flex and can’t get the kinetics then you could always look for the oil filled carismas.
