Just installed on a bolt in the stock position front and rear. Used the vlp springs. Ran it on the backyard course just now and like Matt shows in the vid, descending just got a whole lot better. Second, gaps and holes that used to tip me over now get ur tire "pushed" into them for some traction. It would be nice if you could dial in the preload ala the HR shocks but now I'm just being picky. I run no foam Patagonias and think I might have to put at least 1/2 foams back in cuz they push that much into the rock, also thinking of trying the vl springs in the rear. I've spent way too much on 24's but feel this upgrade is worth it.

Good video, man. I'm certainly liking these shocks. Glad you got the video out! I'm running the VLP springs, too, but the ride height is good. As for the stock shocks, you can remove the "top" of it -- and use a 1.3mm / 0.050 driver to hold it steady to remove the bottom rather than your fancy shock shaft tool (or pliers).

Those are awesome shocks...very clever and simple. Love the increased travel!! Had a thought...Do you think it would be possible to use stock shock tube with the external threaded ring. Drill out where the shock shaft passes through to accept the smaller brass piece inside for the telescope feature. This way you have best of both worlds. You get the extended travel and you have the threaded collar to adjust your preload. Thanks for another great video!

Honestly I never use them. They work if you wanna run limit straps but I’m just not a fan of that. I honestly prefer a shorter shock myself. My favorite are the treal oil filled but they haven’t been available for a good while now. They are a bit longer than stock but oil filled and super smooth. I run the MofoRC oil filled on a few rigs and they are ok but not as good as the treal imo. They seem to bind now and then where my treals never bind.

@@2fmrc cool I’ll be watching for it when you get the time. In my old house the sump pump would quit & fill the basement with water. Not a fun job, good luck hope it isn’t to much of a pain. So do you think they are worth $32? I’m thinking $25 is more like it.
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
@@GeezerGramps honestly after paying around the same price for the aluminum carismas they are definitely worth the $32 to me but I could see also offering them a bit cheaper. The thing for companies like that is they have so much R&D for an item like this. I’m sure they can make them fairly cheap but they have to make up some of the money and time they invested into creating the product. I know you know this but that’s just how I look at it. I’d rather pay a bit more and them continue creating cool stuff like this than to pay less and them not make enough money to continue their work. I’m just really glad there is a company out there making new bolt on performance upgrades vs just slapping their name on someone else’s work that literally does us NO good for performance but makes them a quick buck 🤷🏻♂️. I mean how many different versions of one Shock can be made? There are 3 different companies selling the aluminum “hot racing” shock and they are basically a shiny version of the stocks that barely give us any benefit other than looks. They sell those for $25-30 and they are a copy of a copy that is basically a copy of the stocks in aluminum lol. Sorry for the long response and not saying you’re wrong. That’s just how I justify spending my $32 on them 😂
@GeezerGramps4 жыл бұрын
@@2fmrc I agree we should be supporting the small companies that are making cool stuff for the SCX24. As you said this will encourage them to come up with other things too. I didn't think about the HR/Rebrand shocks being $25 or so and not offering anything other than looks. I'll bet Purple Extreme would work well on the Kinetic shocks. It goes on wet then dries. It's marketed for bike chains. I've been using it for several years on all the suspension parts of my crawlers. Should keep the brass & aluminum slipping & sliding. Thanks for the insight on the Kinetic shocks.

You should get some HR brass wheels and try them on the goat beacause each wheel weighs 40g
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve really tried to keep the weight down on this one because it don’t have all that much power running the two small motors for the dig setup. The only added weight it has to it is some treal brass c hubs in the front and that’s just because they were already installed on the axle I used for the rear so I swapped them to the front lol
@caseyroorda49444 жыл бұрын
@@2fmrc I am thinking about getting brass wheel, do you think it would be better to get just the weights that go inside the wheel?
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
@@caseyroorda4944 honestly I do. I’m not much on the look of the brass wheels so you can get a really good looking wheel and add some mil stones or fullsendrc weights to those and have the best of both worlds. Plus it’s adjustable. I run just weight in the front in a couple of my rigs so it allows you to do that as well. I don’t think a ton of weight is really necessary on most of these. Just a little down low. My yota is probably my heaviest (possibly 2nd to my silver 4ws rig) but I basically added a lot of weight low on it to help out with the hard body weight.

A lot of people are doing that but the vlp springs I have are some of the very 1st ones and I think they are slightly different because they have been great. Kinetic was’nt able to get the vlp springs for a bit and when they started getting them again I feel like they were slightly different because people still didn’t like them. Dude that is sick brother, that bouncer looks so good man. What do you thing about the little 1/24 scale Hot Racing shocks? They seem sick but haven’t done anything with them yet but looked at them through the packaging. You thought about flipping your shocks upside down to lower your CG and maybe it won’t hinder your shock body anymore with the frame work. Just a thought to try.
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! They actually just released a double barrel upgrade kit for the hot racing shocks! I ordered a set today! I love the look of the hot racing shocks but they didn’t offer any more flex than stock. The adjustable collar on them is nice. I can’t wait to get this kit for them! I thought about flipping my shocks as I do that quite a bit on my 1/10 stuff but honestly these are so small and light I don’t think it makes much difference. Especially once you add some brass or weight down low. I just prefer the normal look since it’s not much of a weight difference.

I bought a used Daedbolt and it has double barrel shocks on it. Problem is they were moved from the front shock tower to the frame rail and when I lift the truck they extend so far and the drive shaft comes apart. Any suggestions? Thanks so much
@2fmrc2 жыл бұрын
Take the fronts off and replace them with some shorter shocks. That’s how I run them. Either that or move them back up to the original mounting spot and limit them. The double barrels just unload too much on the front. Best to do away with them. I run the Injora internal spring shocks with a forced droop setup on my fronts now and love it!

The only problem I see with those double barrel style shocks is when they get dirty. They will probably have troubles working properly. They should come out with a shock boot.
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
Yeah they may do it. I honestly rarely ever get mine dirty because I mostly use them indoor and my 1/10 outdoor but they may need cleaned every now and then if running outside a lot. Boots would work great!
@rcclassiccrawlers43684 жыл бұрын
I know a few people that have in door courses that actually have dirt, mud and rock in their courses to try to make them more real. I’m not knocking those shocks cause I think they look great but obviously anyone that uses them in the dirt at this point might have to clean them thoroughly after each use.
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
@@rcclassiccrawlers4368 I just use air in a can or my compressor and blow them out if I take them to the creek or anything like that. Even running in dirt and the wet creek I don’t normally get my shocks too filthy so they clean out pretty easily. I kinda want a little dirt in my next course I build but I actually prefer rock so idk? I’m gonna do a bit of both I guess but have some large rock climbs with real rock. Hopefully I’ll start on that soon. Gonna be a winter project once the weather turns nasty.

Would you recommend greasing these shocks?
@2fmrc4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t. I don’t care much got greasing shocks because they just catch every bit of dirt and grit. You really have to make sure these are mounted straight in line from top to bottom. If one or the other is off a bit it’ll put them in a bind and they don’t work well at all. I used some spacers to pull the top of my shock out a bit so that it was basically plumb with the bottom. Mine work perfectly on the tube chassis build. I’m not a big fan of them on my yota build though. So just know they aren’t for every setup but with a little work they can be great.
