Awesome video! I love my Tarsier. I still keep my NVG in a pelican box when not in use. I dont want to mess up the tube as Tarsier doesn't close all the way.

Cold Harbour Supply sells a screw on protective device (CHAD) that is cheaper, more protective (polycarb rated for UTM/airsoft w/ limetime warranty, vs glass) and has better/more secure attachment. Made in Canada, compatible with all mil-spec objectives including PVS-7, PVS-23 (F5050), DTNVG, Katana, LLUL-21, Proton, DTNVS, BNVD-1531, PVS-31C etc.

Moondog Swift Ocular Adjustment Cap (SOAC) Mini for PVS-14 style NVG’s may be a better, more cost effective alternative to the Tarsiers. They thread on, have screw on sacrificial lens easy to replace, and the cap ring simply rotates to adjust. No throw arm. Sturdy and very good quality for $55. Also, comes with plastic lens cap to protect sacrificial lens.

Jon what size BC flip caps fit the PVS14? I’ve seen so many answers from different people I don’t know which one is the right answer. Great video, it explains a lot!

09A

I use 09A but it depends on your lens assemblies that you're using. So measure them and check out the sizing chart

Yeah, the flip up scope covers for 1/15 th the price of the others works quite well.

I use a full power peq or Mawl c1+. Mawl is the way to go. Trust me I have several civi lasers, and its like comparing a 60 lumen incandescent bulb vs a 600 lumen led.

1/4-inch hole in the cap for an objective lens seems pretty large, I wouldn't recommend that with a tube that is non-auto-gated. It's a pinhole for a reason. Just enough light to enable you to see out the front, for focusing etc, but not wide enough that the light entering the tube could damage it.
@dugstruble3 жыл бұрын
I am a videographer by trade. Sometimes paying more for equipment in warranted, BUT in this case it is not. A 1/24" on butler creeks is NO less in quality for the objective goal (no pun intended) than paying more for an actual tarsier. AND you can just flip em out of the way as oppose to dialing the tarsier, which is the same you would have to do with the focus knob anyways.

I agree! I'm a Commercial/Indusutrial Photographer. While I understand the need to adjust DOF, I just dont see people running around flipping the appeture closed and back open on a constant basis. Fixing is a possible 250 per unit solution for 15 dollars in mostly plastic? Yeah I know everyone has the right to charge as they see fit I guess. However, I think I will stick with my factory included daytime caps. They do the same thing that folks want to achieve with the premium priced focus caps. I might invest in making a set. I could get my buddy to mill the adjustment slots into each cap I guess for a cleaner look. Thanks for the info for sure

You recommended using a MAWL if going with the smaller apertures...if I were using a MAWL, I would just use the IR laser instead of passive aiming with the red dot. Am I missing something?
@KineticConsulting3 жыл бұрын
You are missing something, passive aiming is when you are using zero supplemental illumination. So you wouldn't be using a mawl. If you're using the small aperture, then you may need to use a mawl or supplement the environment with ir illumination depending on what the environment gives you.
@adamjones16413 жыл бұрын
excellent info, thank you!
@Raunadraug3 жыл бұрын
Ive heard from dudes running binos that you can have one lens with the aperture all the way open, and your second one you have the 5.56 pinhole, you kinda get the best of both worlds as your brain translates data from both and overlaps them.

Depends on the person, environment, and situation.

Not related to the topic per say, but I have some light scratches or something on the back lens of my pvs14 from previous owner. Will that ever be an issue or, as long as I keep them clean and dont scratch them more, will they be ok for long-term use?

Do some people run with 1 tube with a narrow DOF and the other eye with wide DOF to try to get their brains to get the best of both worlds?
