my guess as far as the purpose of the aluminum spacer is that it is a stop tube (like in a hydraulic cylinder). It limits how far the rod can extend and thus prevents the rod from bending/buckling

Wow, thank you for this really educational and well done video on how to rebuild the King 2.5 shock. I have been watching this with real curiosity and the reason is I am shopping for my first purchase of replacement shocks for my Chevy Silverado HD extended cab 4x4, and don't know which shocks to buy. I realize that my needs are no way near the extream that many of your clients may be operating in, I don't go extreaminh out for race day at the rough track or weekending as the wild tear it up camping and mountain climbing, but the truck is a built up with a 6" lift and cross member of the same but with torsion bar front no coil spring 2004 4x4. But I did add a heavy canopy for transporting tools and cases for TV production, and now having retired I mostly only carry firewood and tools , but do pull a trailer as need to move additional firewood, so on occasion the truck can be loaded with 1.5 of a ton and we do try to stay on the hard flat surfaces not the rough and bounce bunpy country roads. Given those things, I have limited my view to the Bilstein or the Ican, or fox shocks. Given I will never be taking my shocks off for a rebuild as you have very smartly shown, would you have a suggestion that one shock over another is a better option. I have as mentioned the 2500HD, Chevy Silverado, 4x4 with a overall 6" lift, and need shocks all around. I don't do rough and out off the road 4 wheeling and do not plan on spending more that $100-150 per shock . Can you make a suggestion. Buy, the way it was interesting to hear you say that you had some history in surgical settings, I also did many of video production s, in live open heart valve replacement surgical videos for educational trainings. I have retired now, but those were some very professional times then, I like to be as comfortable and responsible as I drive across town as I was in my times respecting those other well trained people that I was pleased to work with, back then. You show that same responsibility to detail in your presentation and it is really easy to watch and learn from your videos. Thanks Chad Portland Oregon Chevy Silverado HD

Awesome video! Are you planning on doing a video on tuning and recognizing when, where, and how to make adjustments and build shim stacks? Particularly on smaller shocks like ifs setups on tacomas and such

you have a sweet set up... ok so to insure i dont have air trapped in the tubes i like to leave the upward facing tubes open until its fill time. Then fill it up to the first tube, then assemble the bypass, then fill to the top of the next tube, then assemble it, etc, then back to your standard fill procedure.

I don’t like how Kings bypass tubes don’t all return to the bottom of the shock (they are dumb little loops 🔁 for each stage) . I also don’t like how their remote resi can is super short .

They cut the video just before he pass through that wall. Because he does not want us to know that he is sent from a far away planet to teach us how to rebuild shocks.
