This was such a sweet scene. Most marriages at that time were love later and never for actual love at first. Arthur offered to protect her land without the pressure of marriage that's just so romantic in kingdom times.

I don't know why some people would still root for Lancelot and Guinevere *in this particular version* of the tale. In other tellings that sure ads up, but in _First Knight,_ Guinevere and Arthur a.k.a. Julia and Sean have actually known each-other for a while and developed such amazing chemistry! - Entirely regardless of the age gap. I especially like that Guinevere is shown as a more intelligent, accomplished lady, which makes her fit better to Arthur, in my opinion (while Lancelot is portrayed as a talented, but slightly immature rolling stone, who barely know or cares about how to woo a woman, let alone a lady). Obviously, the daring, free-spirited Lancelot represents the exciting adventure you usually have before you settle down, and I'm sure it would have tempted many brides before tying the knot, but I've never seen that potential marriage work out in the long run. Lancelot and Guinevere fascinate each-other, Arthur and Guinevere understand each-other on a deeper level.

I love the hesitant gesture of Arthur’s hand reaching out, but not quite touching, Guinevere’s hair as she turns and walks toward the horse. Lovely little detail.

I watched this movie a looooong time ago, I was so young then...so while yes, I didn't care for the Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot 'triangle,' I used to think, not surprised that she chose the younger guy (Richard Gere)...but now that I'm older and rewatching, I'm like...holy crap, despite the age gap, King Arthur...is actually....HOT. Woof.

You miss the point. The story of King Arthur is fiction, so the age difference between Arthur and Guinevere varies with the telling. In this telling, they are showing a greater age gap than in most versions. This was actually very common in medieval times. Land and title owners were usually older men. Younger daughters were often 'sold' in arranged marriages by these men. For peace agreements, prestige, land transfers, you name it. In this scene, Arthur is trying to be noble about this. He realizes the obvious that he is much older than Guinevere. This is an arranged marriage, the type that happens all of the time, but he wants it to be more than that. He wants it to be a marriage of love.
